This is one of those projects where the bridge is being completely replaced, and raised, and the utility and creek conduits also upgraded. The end result will be a bridge capable of three lanes of traffic in each direction. Don't worry though; the planning for an interchange at Guinea/Braddock Roads and expansion of Guinea Road from Braddock to Braeburn are not even funded yet, so that is many years away.

One reason the project is taking a long time is that total closures of Guinea Road are restricted to nights and weekends, and must be announced well in advance.

If you subscribe to Supervisor John Cook's newsletter, you will receive periodic updates on the project and when closures are scheduled.

This project was supposed to be done late last month. The contractor is terrible.

EDIT: However, if the aforementioned Supervisor Cook had his way, we would be paying more in real estate and other taxes so the county would be responsible for this bridge's replacement and other road maintenance.

Thank you VDOT guy for the information. So sad that MBF is angry at both the contractor and the supervisor.

I will readily admit I don't care for the contractor nor Cook.

This project is majorly being milked by the contractor. Not sure if its fixed price or time and materials, but damn, what is it going on 1 year now???? Progress moves at a slow crawl.
