Baltimore to Fairfax

Hello FFU ..

I find myself in yet, another bind sort of speak. My vehicle just broke down today and most likely, I need to find my way to the Fairfax County Court House this week sometime. Most likely it will be via public transport..

I usually have a set of wheels, but in this case, I have to forgo said wheels and take public transportation for the first time in a decade. I cannot rely (and wont) on friends nor do I have the luxury of renting a car.

FFU, what would be the best way (or what ways) could I reach Fairfax from Baltimore via public transportation? I looked on google maps - and am just wondering if there is any true and tried way before i set on my journey. Thanks!

What time of the day is it? You might just be better off getting a hotel room the night before

Take MARC to New Carrollton, then get on an Orange Line train to Vienna. Less transfers. If you're going to the courthouse, you'll need to either get up early or get a hotel room the night before.

If you are talking about spending money on a hotel room, you could probably just hire a car service to take you there directly. Also, don't you have any friends that would just give you a ride for lunch or some beers?

Yea, I rather not have to rely on a friend - and I wouldnt ask unless I had no other means or what not.. A couple would do it.. but I figure I could save needing a favor for something more dire; in an emergency or something..

I 'googled public transport directions, and it gave me a couple choices.. I currently have three good options for getting into DC..

*Greyhound
*BWI to Greenbelt via b30 express / commuter bus
*Marc

I have to be there by 10:30am to meet with a party in the courthouse...
I was considering a hotel - but by the time I pay for one near the courthouse to be worthwhile, I could have rented a car + gas ($60-$80 estimate)

I figure it should be fun and refreshes an experience I suppose taking public transport to go 60 miles..

From the Vienna metro (subway) - what bus could I take that would be the closest / and minimal walk to the Fairfax County courthouse? Where would I get off at?

Anywho, thanks again FFU and everyone that has responded.

Wanted to update FFU in case if someone needs info on a easy commute from Baltimore to DC to Fairfax..

I arrived at Camden Yards (Oriole baseball stadium) and took the Marc Train to Union Station..

From Union station I was able to access DC's metro system and got onto the Red Line..
Red Line to the Orange then to a CUE bus..

Trip costed about $33.45 and $4.00 for lunch.. Aint bad considering gas in my truck would have been $45 for a round trip. Although it took about 3 hours each way..

I stayed a little longer @ the court house and spectated a couple trials and compliance hearings.
