Is Bane Symbolic of Obama?
Posted by: Batman ()
Date: July 22, 2012 04:59AM

As I watched the midnight show, with no one trying to shoot up the theater, I couldn't help but think that the Bane character was symbolic of Obama's speeches. There's the part where he creates a people's court for the purpose of sentencing business leaders - their trial was already held in the court of public opinion. He promises the little people that the city is now theirs, while keeping them from leaving using the metaphor of blocked bridges. He encourages the masses to take as much as they want from those who have more than they do.

It all just seemed eerily and ironically similar to what I hear from the Obama campaign.

This is almost (but not quite) as stupid as Rush Limbaugh implying that Bane was named as such to link him with Bain Capital.

The Dark Knight was a commentary on the Bush Administration. It wouldn't surprise me if Dark Knight Rises is a commentary on the Obama Administration. I think Nolan is just trying to create something that is entertaining.

I was thinking the same thing. Label all the business leaders as evil. Eliminate them and divide their assets among the masses. Then kill them all and start over. Whether or not you believe that's a commentary on Obama, they do use similar rhetoric.

I haven't seen the movie, but Nolan used current events for inspiration in Dark Knight (War on Terror) and undoubtedly did the same here (Banking Crisis). I think Bane is supposed to represent Occupy Wall Street taken to radical extremes. Not sure if that represent Obama's philosophy, but whatever.

Obama is a grotesque moron and not the pressident so he cant be blamed. Unfortunately the real President, Biden, is also a moron.

You guys realize this is a movie based on a comic book right?

You might as well debate the existential meaning of a Tom and Jerry cartoon.

This is just like the morons who were offended when "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" came out, claiming movie makers were capitalizing on 9/11. Nevermind that the book it was based on was published in 1954.

Lots of fucking idiots out there.

Though denied by Nolan, Rises could also be a symbol/example of what would happen if the Occutards got their way.

Complete anarchy, all the rich people getting their shit wrecked/stolen and nothing can be done about it. Various scums doing w/e they want. All of which the people think they are in charge but really they aren't, and now the city is as shitty as ever.

That.. without the impending threat of immediate destruction.

you know ito, you suck.

I thought you might have read a book once in your life, based on your passed comments, but its clear you haven't.

WTF does it matter whether philosophy has pictures attached or not? Its the ideas that count, not how they are presented.

I'm not saying that The Dark Knight is any great depiction, but the ideas--nihilism, fascism--are still real ones.

When I saw it I was thinking the same thing, Bane was not out to clean the city for its evil.as the villain in the first film. He wanted to redistribute the wealth. I beleave he almost quoted Obama in saying you didn't build your wealth the criminals built it for you, or something like that.
On a side note when 8000 criminals are broken out of prison how do they all have an AK47 in their hands?
and how do you get from a hole in Africa to Gotham over night with no money, now that is directed at Obama! , LOL

I thought the movie was a metaphor for Batman and some of the characters from the Batman comics.
