Asian-American Voters: The Key to Winning the Next Election?
A new survey concludes that with a quarter of Virginia's Asian-American population undecided on who they favor in the presidential election, both Republicans and Democrats could gain from additional outreach.

Calling Asian-Americans a "largely untapped voting bloc," a pollster and community leaders suggested this week that those voters could be the deciding factor in the November elections.

Both the Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama campaigns are vying hard to win Virginia—now a hotly contested swing state that may be won by a slim margin of voters. The telephone survey, conducted by Lake Research Partners (run by Celinda Lake, a Democratic strategist), suggests that there may be an opportunity to win additional votes in the Asian-American community since 26 percent in that group are undecided in Virginia.

"There's potential for both parties to make major ground here," said Christine Chen, the executive director of APIAVote, a group that encourages Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders to vote.

About 6 percent of the state's population claimed Asian ancestry on the 2010 Census. That number rises in Fairfax County to 18 percent. So it shouldn't be too big of a surprise that both campaigns have been making efforts to reach voters in the area.

On Saturday at 3 p.m., representatives from both the Obama and Romney campaigns will participate in a town hall forum, hosted by APIAVote, at George Mason University. Richard Lui of MSNBC will moderate the event. Former cabinet Secretary Norm Mineta and Rep. Mike Honda will welcome participants.

Still, during a conference call with reporters on Thursday to discuss the survey results, representatives from the Voice of Vietnamese Americans, Asian American Justice Center and APIAVote said there was additional outreach needed. They pointed, for instance, toward the finding that only 28 percent of those who answered the survey had been contacted by the Democratic party and 18 percent by the Republican party.

APIA's 2012 Townhall fell flat on its face. The attendance was really really poor! Barely over a hundred people in the GMU concert hall seem like an audition for jr high band. This confirms the fact that Asian brothers and sisters are NO LONGER Excited about the ability of the supreme leader, Obama, to bring the tides of change to lift all boats.

Surely APIA will blame the weather for the low attendance. Mike Honda was barely able to get the crowd to join him in his battle cry for Obama! Will give him an A for effort cus he tried the battle cry 3x like a good socialist. And Mineta spontaneously exclaimed 'Good Job' after watching Romney's personalized message for the event! Obama's video message was just a cut-n-paste job slapped together by his media production team. It even exposed APIA an integral part of the Obama campaign because the video portrayed both Obama and APIA in the same promotional clip.

Fellow Asian brothers and sisters, how have our lives really improve under Obama? Did we get better jobs? Higher salary? Made a better living under his poor economy? Look, when we are successful it is because we studied our a$$ off, worked hard, and proudly bought that Lexus with our hard earned cash. But in the last 3 years, even of we did all of the above, there is simply no good jobs, low cash flow, and more Obama mandates. If he were the CEO of my company, he would have been fired for his poor performance. This vote is for Romney!

Asians are some of the toughest nut to crack because we value $$$$$ and education so much. In this stinking economy, I for one can't think of a single thing that Obama has done to help my situation.

You drew a pie in the sky and told us to feed our family with it.
You said Anyone But Bush and we went along with it.

Now...
My home value is under water, thanks President Obama!
My bank account bares almost zero interest, thanks again President Obama!
My stocks are nearly worthless, thanks you Barrack!
My wife wants a new car but we are stuck driving the old one, WHY? Thanks to you Obama!
My children's school wants $$$ from parents because they can't afford supplies, got answers Michelle Obama?

So you know who this Asian is voting for in November right? NOT YOU OBAMA!!!

One yer not a real asian

Two

If yer stocks are nearly worthless, you are a fucking moron seeing as if you had bought around 2008 (you know before obama when the economy tanked and the DOW dipped to 4 digits) you would be up 40-50% like the rest of us... maybe you should take personal accountability.

Speaking of which

Your house being underwater, maybe you shouldnt have over paid for a shitty mcmansion in a crappy subdivision in the middle of nowhere. Eastern and northern fairfax actually now have seen home values that exceed 2007 levels. In fact my place (a high rise condo) never even saw a dip. Again grow a set and take on some personal accountability instead of blaming a president who even if he was to fault for the housing crisis that occurred starting in 2006 btw, wouldnt have much say over it since his powers over housing cost are about as substantial as ... well you.

If your bank account bears (one of the reasons why I know you aren't asian because asians don't make homonym mistakes as stupid as this one) basically no interest then why dont you move it to a CD, invest in local opportunities and businesses, or pay off your below water house mortgage (something that could gain you an effective 3-7% return on investment depending on your rate).

Sounds like wife is a total bitch, whats wrong with the car you got? You should be happy you have any car you ungrateful idiot, sorry you can't afford your 8mpg hummer that your wife wants so that she can forget how awful you are in bed.

Also another sign that you aren't asian, your kid isnt in a GT school or TJ either of which would have a surplus of funding.

Go troll elsewhere you fight picking idiot Allen and Romney supporter.

You may be Asian, but you sure have an American mindset. I'm guessing you're second generation.

Your home is under water. Well, you bought it - undoubtedly at the top of the market. You gambled and lost.

Your stocks are nearly worthless. They shouldn't be. The market took a beating but it's recovered nicely. And the stock market is by it's nature risky. If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.

Your wife wants a new car but you are stuck driving the old one. Cry me a river. I drive a 20 year old car, because it's long since paid off and it works. I could afford a new car, but it's a waste of money to me. This is like saying I'm 25 and I'm buying my first home and it MUST have granite countertops and stainless steel appliances. Get over yourself.

Your children's school wants money from parents for supplies. Parents have had to buy school supplies for at least 20 years. It's not that big a deal.

You've got the American entitlement mentality down pat. Take some responsibility for your own decisions. And if you think things are gonig to get better under Romney, you are mistaken.

Also if you are asian, and wanna know what the GOP, or rather the GOP of virginia, thinks of you why dont you look around all the threads on this forum that call your women $5 vietnamese whores, or how about the ones that say we should wipe all of the gooks and chinks

I am an asian and I am a logical thinker, I know that the GOP of today has been corrupted by fear mongering end of the worlders who think that everyone different is a threat, even those who help our economy like many asians do by being innovative, inventive, and hard working. Providing them some sort of mandate vote by electing them ensures that this country is going to devolve back 50 years of racial equality and frankly I think we have come too far to start letting these ignorant morons back in power, we're still cleaning up their mess in the middle east.
