A high-end boutique theater is scheduled to open this September in in Merrifield as part of the Mosaic District development near the intersection of Lee Highway and Gallows Road.

The Angelika Film Center & Café is slated to open late that month, and is planned to include eight screens, stadium seating and offer independent, foreign and specialty film.

“It’s a perfect fit for the Angelika,” said Terri Moore, vice president of theater operations for Reading International, Inc., of the location. “This Mosaic area is really exciting. Even the Target looks a lot cooler than a regular Target.”

The Mosaic District development sits on 31 acres in Merrifield. Phase one of the development, scheduled to open in September, includes 350,000 square feet of retail, a 150-room hotel, 73,000 square feet of office space and a park. The overall project will include 500,000 square feet of retail, 1,000 residential units, 4,000 parking spaces and two parks.

Retailers include Target, MOM’s Organic Market, Last Call by Neiman Marcus, Black’s Bar & Kitchen, Artisan Confections, Bellacara, Cava Mezze, Cyclone Anaya’s, Dolcezza, Red Apron Butchery, Dawn Price Baby, Matchbox, MyEyeDr., Lou Lou Boutique, sweetgreen, Taylor Gourmet, Paper Source, Eagle Bank and Hyatt House.

The Angelika Film Center & Café is scheduled to open Sept. 21. However, Moore said the theater will host several events prior to the official opening.

While movie-goers will have the option of purchasing more traditional theater foods popcorn, soft drinks and nachos the theater also will serve beer, wine and a menu crafted by celebrity Chef Lee Anne Wong, who was a finalist on Bravo’s cooking competition “Top Chef.” Wong’s menu will appear in Angelika’s café, lounge and concession stand.

“The Angelika’s goal is to become the premiere cinema in the greater [Washington, D.C.] area,” said Ellen Cotter, chief operating officer of the U.S. Cinema Division of Reading International, Inc., in a statement. “We are committed to offering exceptional service and a superior and different movie-going experience at Mosaic.”

Reading Cinemas Opening in September, the Angelika Film Center & Café promises to bring high-end entertainment and independent films to the Mosaic District development in Merrifield.

Cities are tailor-made locations for fags, metrosexuals, and their faggy things. Why are we importing fags into the suburbs by building shit like this?

> sweetgreen

This whole Mosaic project is sorta ridiculous, but the addition of a sweetgreen will be welcomed. That place is great and I'm glad they've ventured into FFX county.
