Aurora Shootings
Posted by: Harry Reems ()

I get up this morning and 14 people are dead from some crazy shooting at a batman movie...jesus what is wrong with us?!?!

Gun nuts: please justify why we need guns again? And if you tell me this would not have happened if you where there packing heat, then you are an idiot.

Odds are it is some mentally ill loner who decided to play Modern Warfare in real life. The shooter is supposedly 24. Could be a PTSD thing, too, if he served.

Usually mass killings are the domain of disgruntled whites.

It will be interesting to find out the shooters identity in any case.

He's been identified as white. Another Jared Loughner/Tim McVeigh-type nutcase.

Harry Reems -

What is your malfunction? What don't you understand about gun control?

If we "don't need guns", then "we" wouldn't have guns, but "they" still would. That's the way it's always been.

How many shootings are there in DC? Yet, guns are damn near illegal, requiring everything to be registered with the police.

AND YES, IF THERE SOMEONE THERE WITH CCH AND A BIT OF SACK, 14 PEOPLE WOULDN'T HAVE DIED!!!

The only idiot is you; bitching about gun control yet not realizing the bad guys get guns regardless of the law.

Stupid Fuck.

This is about evil. Point blank. The gun was the device used, yes. But the problem is the person behind the firearm in question. And that is John Holmes. Get the fucking rope.

There are reports that there were armed security guards in the theater when the attack happened. The problem was the tear gas. The cops couldn't get into the theater when they arrived because of it.

yeah, even I gotta admit this isnt the fault of a gun - this guy could have done the same thing with clorox and windex.

Before 9/11, the state of New York's worse mass murder was like 80-some ppl and that guy did it all with a gallon of Amoco.

Yes, the presence of even more firearms inside a dark theater crowded with people running around screaming, that would be the best solution.

yes, if only people had filed out of the theatre in an orderly way all this tragedy would have been averted. . .

It seems pretty obvious if someone was packing there'd be a lot less carnage. . . but just keep up your gun control ideology, facts be damned.

Agreed, there would've been a lot less bloodshed. At least they nailed this fucker. I'm hoping the gold 'ole boys from the Aurora Sheriff's Department are breaking his legs as we speak.

@Kutt/no thanks - only somebody trained in such a scenario would have had ANY chance of minimizing bloodshed in that event. There were distraction devices used in the attack as well as something chemical so it's not like just pulling out on the guy in front of you who's robbing the Sev. Prolly not the best scenario to try andbe Charles Bronson when there are so many panicked ppl around..........

Seriously, though, tear gas, dark, chaos, etc. I don't think a random civilian with a firearm would have stopped this guy.

All gun control did was prevent people from being able to defend themselves last night. You think that dipshit who brought his AK and tear gas gives a crap about gun control laws? If even 1/2 of the people in that theater were carrying there'd be a lot less innocent victims and one nutjob with oatmeal where his head used to be.

Get off the gun control theme hippy. Maybe you would have stopped his rampage with hugs and promises of a better tomorrow.

I might buy your CCH argument if this had happened in a food court or similar location with regular lighting, but you had:

1) darkness/low light
2) shooter dressed in black
3) gas/noxious fumes
4) large crowd moving in random directions

Unless you had CQB experience and/or training I think that the outcome would have had an equally high number of friendly fire injuries and death. What would you do if 10 other people pulled their guns and started shooting? How would you tell the "good" guys from the "bad" guys?

Groups like the Secret Service and Diplomatic Security spend a lot of time in just this scenario when they have events like the UN General Assembly in New York where there are security/protection forces from multiple countries and you need to be able to identify friend from foe.

Crime control, not gun control. I'd have taken a shot at that fuggin' asshole if I'd had the chance.

I always make sure there are fresh batteries for the laser sight in the S&W Bodyguard when I go to the movies.

You guys should do the same.

Guns. Better to have and not need than to need and not have.

Don't forget:

5) The shooter was reportedly wearing a bulletproof vest. The only thing harder than shooting a guy dressed in black in the middle of a dark theater with a panicking crowd and tear gas is shooting a guy dressed in black in the middle of a dark theater witha panicking crowd and tear gas in the head.

Maybe you should blame the Republican Governor, Bill Owens, who signed the concealed carry ban.

The DC Sniper killings weren't mass murder, they were spree killings.

EDIT: I know that seems like splitting hairs, but that's how these things are classified by law enforcement agencies.

I heard there was a three month old baby at the movie who was injured. Who the f#ck brings a baby to a midnight movie? Why can't people learn to get a baby sitter or stay f#cking home!

Doesn't give the guy any right to shoot the place up. But the way people act in movie theaters, talking, texting, talking on their cell phones, etc. I am not surprised!

BTW, CO does have a concealed carry law, however the theater does not allow guns on the premises. So even if everyone had a gun, they would have to leave them in their cars!

about the baby - two points
1) if you complain about a 3 month old up at night, all I can say is that you must have never had a baby LoLz. Time means little to some of them at that age

2) who fhe fuck brings a 3 month old to a movie theater at ANY TIME??

now that's whats really fucked up. 3 month old babies should be your main focus in yr life at that time, not a GotDamn move - sheesh.

I saw someone bring an 8yo girl to "The Hangover 2" on opening night - insane. At least a 3 month old is not as directly impressionable.

This thread proves that it is never too soon to argue gun control after shit like this happens.

The Brady Campaign has been on a blood frenzy the entire day.

http://dailycaller.com/2012/07/20/brady-campaign-we-dont-want-sympathy-we-want-action/

In a reaction to the Aurora, Colo., shooting at the midnight premiere of “The Dark Knight Rises” several politicians expressed sympathy for the victims, but The Brady Campaign, a pro-gun control group, issued a statement saying it wasn’t interested in pleasantries.

The guy bought 6000 rounds of ammo on line over a few week period. Stockpiled some weapons and a bunch of paramilitary gear as well. Not to mention the crap he bought to rig his apartment with explosive booby traps. Obviously he did a fair bit of google on all this stuff as he planned out his attack.

Pretty easy to monitor electronic transactions and web activity that should raise eyebrows. Banks do it all the time. Like calling you when there is an unusual transaction on your credit card. New gun purchases require a background check through State & Federal databases.

So you put two and two together via computer and the odd activity will stand out. Throw in a little pattern recognition and some data mining tools - its fairly easy to spot odd and unusual activity. Stuff you might want the local police to at least know about and look into.

You would think a little proactive monitoring of unusual gun and ammo purchases might be in order.

As an owner of multiple weapons, including fully automatic weapons, I really don't have any problem with this type of monitoring or with tighter controls and restrictions on weapon sales - to include mandatory weapons training and full in depth background checks to include mental health screening prior to anyone being able to purchase any gun from .22cal on up.

But we all know the NRA won't allow for stricter controls. So why not data mining and proactive surveillance?

Of all the paranoia about privacy, I think there is simply too much data generated by too many people to get everything.

My wife lamented "You can't go anywhere anymore" - that's a quote. Ugh.

Literally millions of people have the ability and resources, but not the will, to do something just as horrible every day. Of course we'll concentrate on the few that put it together and cause such tragedies. That is proper and unavoidable.

To translate that into an absolute statement about how every physical place is unsafe is exactly the kind of hysteria that causes reactionary legislation. Maybe they'll start tracking ammunition purchases like they do with fertilizer-type bomb making stuff. The smart ones that have the will to do it will simply spread their purchases around and patiently do it anyway.

I don't have a solution, but reactionary legislation isn't it.
