And i admitted guilt and got a ticket and prolly will end up paying it and went to an inspections station yesterday and got the decal. You can put up my info if u want, Im not afraid of an outing or anything else happening, or even if its my info or not. I just said what happened and im in the wrong and wanted nothing more than info from here, and got it. Didnt mean to cause any harm or anyone any inconvenience of googling the law. cant we all just get along?

So... How much is a safety inspection these days? $15? An emissions inspection? Another 15? How much is this ticket for anyway? Look at the time and effort you are putting into this...

Time is money. Take whatever hourly rate you work for and multiply it by the number of hours you are going to spend on this. Chances are if you spend five minutes writing a check and mailing in your ticket you will save both time and money.

I thought you said the ticket was "withdrawn." Now you are paying a fine?

Again, liek i said, itll prolly end up happening that way. Im more upset aboutt he officer who was adamant that he was right, when he was misled. He didnt even want to hear an explanation or even hear me speak, just rushed and wrote the ticket. Not gonna weasel my way out of it. It has an emissions inspection, and i think the ticket (with fees and everything) costs like 60 bucks

Every car in Virginia MUST have a Valid VA inspection on it once VA registration is Recorded and Plates are installed on that Car.
Cut and Dry sir your car is in VIOLATION! you got away with it for a long time Congrats to you sir.

Well, he said it would be withdrawn or whateevr once i come to the precinct and show him that inspection checklist. which i may or may not do, as hell prolly ask where i bought it and then tell me its still a legit ticket. which is why ill probably end up paying it. Its just upsetting that the cop made no attempt to actually follow through, and essentially got lucky writing this ticket

@AngryGai

Good deal. I was typing when you posted so I didn't see your previous response.

Just think of this harassment from the cops as an extra local tax because basically this is what most of this bureaucratic nonsense is.

I'm sure you had your suspicions that driving around w/o an inspection sticker was sketchy if anything anyway. The lesson learned in this case is: never believe what a car dealer tells you.

No if it was purchased new. You have one year after purchase till you have to get a VA inspection

Yeah, a perfectly legit ticket. Why should he waste his time with your BS? If you told him the entire truth, you are still in violation of the law.

How can you be 100% positive he didn't know the car was purchased in MD?

He pulled over a newer car with no inspection sticker. He could have then run the plate, which would get him the VIN, which could get him the state that it was sold in.

You may not be the first person he encountered that tried the "I don't need it for one year" story.

Yea. I dont know why people here tend to get angry and dont see the underlying point here. But yea, what irked me the most was this cop didnt even pull out behind me. His sirens went off (he was already on the shoulder) and pointed at me and told me to pull over.

Only if it was purchased in VA. YOU didn't purchase your car in VA.

It has been pointed out to you a dozen times, but you ignore it every time. Every dealer in VA puts the sticker on their cars. ALL OF THEM. Find me a dealer that doesn't. Dealers don't want the hassle of dealing with angry customers. A new car with no sticker screams that it was brought from out of state.

If youd hear me out, which u wont, i said i know that and am guilty of that. All im saying is he didnt do what was necessary, which was run everything and check it and make sure he was giving a legit ticket. He didnt know it was out of state, maybe he did maybe he didint, but he didnt ask nor did he mention it. A little thoroughness wouldnt hurt. Like i said, ill wind up probably opaying it, and already got the sticker
and itll be a moot point.

Because your underlying point here is stupid. As for being "angry," who is naming themself Angrygai?

We've all heard you out. It is you who is deliberately deaf. He knew the ticket was legit. He knew your car wasn't purchased in VA because it didn't have a sticker.

You don't know whether he knew or not. If he did know, why would he ask or mention it?

I understand your point, but you don't know what information he had access to.

I dont follow what ur saying. your saying they dont do an emissions? or are yousaying i didnt get an emissions? all i know is the dealer sent in all the stuff for regitration so i have no clue what they submitted it with.

lto, thank you for being a good sport. done deal, im sorry to have hurt ur feelings or whatever reason it is ur upset, and i mean that sincerely. and obviously, im angry gai because yesterday, i was an angry guy.

Not trolling, i wouldnt keep a troll post up this long. And ur right, i didnt know if he knew or not 100%, but when i told him it was new, and showed him proof, he didnt ask whthere it was out of state or not
which was the point
cuz thats the difference in the ticket. He couldve said "your car was purchased outside VA, thats why" and i wouldve been fine and shut my mouth. but he didnt and thats the point

@Gai - you've spent more time on this stupid thread than you probably would in court, and court probably wouldn't be nearly as frustrating.

Take your lumps and move on, man.

virginia only requires an emissions for tag renewal so you got tags right ?
you have to have a saftey inspection at all times in virginia proving your car is safe and legal to drive on virginia roads. go to court and tell your story just don't push your luck and talk to much you might get off

The ticket is $60. Just pay it instead of wasting a day in court -- unless you actually like sitting in a courtroom for hours and hours.

He knew because you had no sticker. Had you bought it in VA, it would have had a sticker.

Could have something to do with the fact that the first sentence of your "asking for help" was a shot at all the forum members who would try to help you.
