Anyone know if there are any decent gunsmiths in nova? The one that came recommended to me doesn't seem to be in business anymore.

I have used Northern Virginia Gun Works in Springfield. They are true craftsmen, but not cheap. Definitely a first rate shop.

the 600lbs guy? Ethan/Ian something like that. His shop just sort of shut down, I had always assumed he died of a heart of attack while sitting in his chair

No he didn't. He lost the lease on the building and had to give
it up. Last I heard he was a firearms instructor teaching newbie
cops how to shoot. BTW, his name is Darren Guthrie.

Glad to hear is still alive. I wasn't trying to make fun of him. He was always supper nice when i walked in and had fair prices. Unlike Blue Ridge who lets their awesomeness get in the way of good customer service of their rip off pricing.

Hatfields in Manassas. Not far from Virginia Arms.

^^ Hatfields is the WORST gunsmith in the entire area. Do some research on those guys first and make sure you dont take them ANYTHING of value because they WILL fuck it up. I know more than one person that had to get a sherrif to go with them just to get their own guns returned to them. And of course when they got them back, they were fucked up.

Check out vaguntrader, com for better resources.

WHAT? Hatfields does some great custom finishes, especially on revolvers.

Sorry man, but I disagree based on my experiences and those of the people I know. Honestly, you are the first person I have ever know to say something positive about those guys.

My understanding is that Hatfields fails super hard at just about everything that isn't a 1911. If it's a 1911 you're looking to have work done on, you could risk it, but I wouldn't.

If it's a gun you actually care about, take the trip down to Glen Allen and talk to Rick (or just give him a call to see what he can do for you), here's his site: http://www.ttiintl.com/
