Dental question in Ffx

Hey you all-

I need my wisdom tooth pulled (lower left), and my dental plan has not kicked in yet. It is starting to hurt when I bite into cold stuff and I can't ignore it or just bite into an asprin or put ambesol/oragel anymore to numb it.

Any recommendations on where to go in Fairfax County who will on the first appointment just numb me good, pull it quickly, and send me on the way in 2 hours or less with a painkiller prescription w/o giving me guilt over the rest of my teeth until my dental kicks in August 1st?

Once insurance kicks in I can come back and have the deep cleaning and all that. I'm paying cash for the tooth pull so any estimates would be great, googling isnt helping much. yes I DO brush and floss daily.

Thx!

Are you in good health? Do you smoke? Do not use ambesol on your gum long term as it can burn your gum tissue.

Is your tooth impacted or at a slant?

Call your local OS for an appointment. The exam should cost around $125.00. You will need a panorex x-ray and that will run you about $175.00. I have no idea how involved your wisdom tooth situation is. If you are in pain now you may need sedation too.

Don't wait to have your tooth extracted.

Good luck!

What happened to a door, a little fishing line, a knot, and slamming a door?

In all seriousness I use to go to this place on 236 near Woodson that I'm pretty sure was a training place for dental students. It was kinda shady (so I stopped going there) but this seems like something they may do.

I hope you get that taken care of soon, and aren't in too much pain.

maybe check here:

http://www.nvds.org/northern-virginia-dental-clinic.aspx

not sure if this is what you are looking for, they are for people who can't afford dental care generally, but maybe they can help out or recommend someone.

good luck!

Oral surgery is submitted to your Health insurance usually. There is a clinic in Loudon county that helps indegents.

They don't pull wisdom teeth. They CUT (surgery) them out.

Find a Mexican at a day labor site. They'll do pretty much anything for $20.

Depends .. if they are impacted (growing in sideways and pushing against your neighboring molars) then yes, they cut the tooth in half and extract it. If its clear above the gumline they can pull it without cutting the tooth first.

Either way look to spend about $1200 out of pocket or $300 per tooth if you dont have insurance.

Why with so many dentists around these parts does it still cost so much to see a dentist?

I grew up going to dentist in an office building. I don't think it looks good for a dentist to have office in a strip mall. I recently went to a dentist after not going for over 5 years. The dentist had been practicing in area for nearly 30 years and has his offices in a dental arts building. Yet I had to go back three times for him to fix a filling he did on an alleged cavity he found. Put too much glop in my tooth and the excess pressure was annoying. He charged me each time I went back to get him to fix it. So I don't know. Should I try a dentist in a strip mall?

Does Georgetown University have a dental arts school?
