Teehee. Best news I've heard today. Can't wait until the posts start showing up here from the dummies who get busted and have to use the interlock.

Stop drinking and driving! Call a cab. Have a sober driver. Drink at home. Stop being a loser. Va has it right.

I don't need you killing my family just so you can get drunk. Get a life!

We had a blast getting drunk! Lots of Jagerbombs at the bar! Titty flashing ! Whohoo!

Exactly, there are devices sold on the internet that will blow for you. Of course you can always just do what most people do and get a friend to buy you a second vehicle for you to drive.

Or, just hire a good lawyer like the FAA guy did and have the DUI case thrown out of court on a technicality.

DMV News Releases
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ignition Interlock Required After First DUI Conviction
New Law Takes Effect July 1

RICHMOND - Tighter restrictions on driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol take effect July 1. An ignition interlock device will be required after one DUI conviction. Currently, the requirement for an ignition interlock is imposed after two DUI convictions or when the offender's blood-alcohol content (BAC) is 0.15 percent or above, even if it's the driver's first DUI. A Virginia driver's BAC must be below 0.08.

An ignition interlock system connects a vehicle's ignition to an analyzer that measures a driver's blood alcohol content. It prevents the ignition from starting if a driver's BAC exceeds 0.02 percent. The interlock system can perform a rolling retest at random intervals during the operation of the vehicle, which triggers the horn and flashing lights if the operator has a BAC that exceeds 0.02 percent or if the driver fails to take the test.

"why don't they apply this shit to people who text?"

Good fucking question! I have been rear-ended twice by a texter " once on a motorcycle" and had some dumb woman talking on the phone sideswipe me. All in the span of 4 months!

I have never been rear ended or sideswiped by a drunk. go figure.

I tried to google because I was curious but couldn't seem to find anything. How many people lost their lives in a car accident in Virginia last year. You never seem to see statistics about anything other than an accident caused by a DUI - Drug related type of offense it would seem. That article said their was like 245 Fatalities and 28K arrests. What are the comparable statistics for accidents caused by elderly drivers, people not paying attention, people driving too slow for current conditions, people texting, etc etc .

yeah, it's about 20 percent drunks, or lower. I did a study on this. i'm sure it's lower but for argument sake, lets say 20 percent alcohol related.

so that means 80 percent were sober and could not drive for shit, or were distracted in someway, or just in the wrong place at the right time..I really wish I had the stats. I will find it.
