Your Views on Indians in the area?
Posted by: Mac212 ()
Date: June 22, 2012 04:39PM

Hello All,
I have been living in the fairfax county of almost about a year.. and I have seen a lot of indians here. I would like to know what do the people here..American Women/Men think of Indian Men/Women. Im primarily looking for your views on young indians below 35.

Im a 25 year old Indian guy and sometimes I and many other people I know have had a feeling that some american girls.. especially in big cities like new york.. do not like indian men. However Im not sure about it. Also what are the views of American people about young indians in general?

Anyways it would be great to know some honest opinions. IF you dislike something then what it is? what shall we improve?

They're people. They should be addressed and "viewed" individually, not as a group.

I don't like Indian food, but that's far easier to group together than people.

Going by my personal experience(s) those of Indian descent whom I've associated with are highly intelligent, hard-working and easy to get along with(generally speaking).
I'm 23 years old, therefore this feedback primarily concerns the Indian people within my age bracket; haven't had sufficient interactions with elder Indians.

No problem with the indians who live in my apt complex. they gather at the picnic table/grilling area, about 20 indians. Not once has trash been left behind! very respectful, and they don't trash the place. No problems here.

Now try saying that about the illegal hispanics, or blacks.

I will be perfectly honest. I don't like Indian culture. I think the robes and traditions are intoxicating to my senses. Also indians smell bad, curry is absolutely gross, and the Indian accent is annoying. Besides that Indians are nice people and seem to care about their business prospects in America, and I once almost dated an Indian women, but didn't.

Indians are hard working, generaly (though not all) assimilate rather well, and place a high value on education. Like Asians, you don't see their kids wasting time on school sports or video games. The newly-arrived women tend to have attitudes and need to lose those long scarf-tunic clothing things a lot quicker than they do. Other than that, not too much.

On the downside, Indian food sucks and their accents are annoying.

Like the poster above said, "I'll take the indians over the illegal hispanics, chinks, camel jockeys, or the violent american negro anyday of the week."

Pakis suck, too! Despite that they look the same, they're distinguishable from Indians by the fact that they're lazy, stupid and arrogant. Pakis are the Mexicans of the Asian subcontinent.

I worked in the IT field for twenty years, the last ten or so around a number of people of Indian descent. I don't think anyone I worked with had any problem with the culture or the people. In my experience, Indians are intelligent, hard working, and polite.

What we did have a problem with was the fact that Indians are increasingly dominating the IT field (mostly H1b visas), at the expense of homegrown IT people, and are depressing salaries. That creates a certain degree of tension and resentment. I also found that although most Indians have an excellent command of spoken English, their writing skills left something to be desired (although the same could be said for many Americans). And as a woman, I felt that there was sometimes an undercurrent of sexism.

BTW, how can anyone hate Indian food? It's the absolute best!

I've worked with Indians and never had any problems with most. The only ones who seem to get on my nerves are the men 45 years of age and older (same with African men). Women of any age--no problem. Younger men--no problem.

One more thing I've noticed is that the Indians I've worked with tend to skirt around am issue to keep from saying "no" or that something couldn't be done.

I've known Indians who are arrogant and unacceptable in
my world. Just became you're from India doesn't mean you're
superior to me. I don't care where you graduated from college
and after reviewing the vast majority of your interoffice
memos you should really try and improve your English grammar.
I don't care that you think you're superior because you learned
your poor skills from the British, this is the USA. Get used to it.
You have customs we find strange. Why do you always go outside
to trim your toenails and fingernails? Your Indian doctors practice
medicine that is sometimes questionable. Drinking raw chicken
blood to cure the common cold? Bounce that one off the AMA...
Indian guys think they're hot shit if they're dating a blonde haired
American woman but they won't hold still for an Indian girl dating
an American of European ancestry.
Shall I continue?

Agree.. but this quote

"I'll take the indians over the illegal hispanics, chinks, camel jockeys, or the violent american negro anyday of the week."

rings so true. I am tired of people bringing the shit culture here, dress normal, and stop saying " so tell me"

I don't think you guys understand his question in mutliple ways.

He says he's an Indian guy, and he gets the feeling that American (white) girls don't like like Indian men. As in they don't want to date them.

You guys get a bad rep for the way your food makes your clothes smell, and the fact that many, many of you will argue til no end to save a few bucks, but no, I don't think many people have issues with Indian people as far as sharing their community with them goes.

You won't get too many answers from women on this board. It's mainly just a bunch of smartass white dudes who just bitch about the diversity in this area. If you look around, it's pretty obvious that white women in this area don't typically date ethnic Indian dudes. Probably just not their type. If you're very Americanized, speak English without an accent, carry yourself like an American, and aren't extremely cheap, you've got a shot though.

Immigration- I'm cool with it since my ancestors immigrated here just like all of us. Except mine did it in the 1640s. When you've come here just a few years ago. And you surround yourself with your people and you act like you're still in your home country...then yes people are going to look at you differently. When my ancestors came over. I'm sure sometime in 1645 the feather-indians were looking at them like WTF are they doing. And it was fine....because they were weird and different and talked different and dressed different. why is it a problem now?

I lived in a cooperative rooming house here in NOVA where there were 8 to 10 Indian folks (on work visas) also renting rooms there. The owner lived on the property and it was cheap and very convenient to live there (rents were reasonable) but it was expected that it would be run as a coop and all the house chores were set up so that everyone had to take their turn as posted and do a set portion of the weekly chores in a rotating basis. Over the years that I was renting there, the Indians were fine roommates (99% of them). The only problem the landlord had with them is that (1) as Brahmin caste members, his Indian residents refused to do any menial cleaning work--such as daily of weekly chores--so the several cooperating residents who were doing their chores in a cooperative manner soon found that they were doing a months worth of cleanups every week their chore list changed! A few of the Indian guys who had been born and raised in the US and were actual citizens here did not seem to avoid their responsibilities. I remember when a pressure cooker exploded one night and stuff was plastered on everything within 5 feet of the stove, and no one owned up to being the perpetrator! Also none of them would ever clean their bathroom that was shared by all on the upper floor.

The only other issue was that one renter would rent a very small room and soon there would be the whole family, several friends, or a girlfriend moving in to the same room--they would sleep in sleeping bags lined up on the floor. They really kept the landlord hopping sometimes, but other than that they were really OK folks to houseshare with.

I have never had any major issues with individuals from India--my neighbors are from India and are very nice and we get along fine. I agree that you really cannot generalize......I have found that the Indian people that I have encountered in my own life have been polite, professional and respectful. Yes, I have encountered a few that have been rude and I have encountered a few that are bad drivers.....but somehow I doubt that is because they are Indian LOL.

As far as the original poster, you may be giving off some 'unapproachable vibe' that is impacting our social skills and/or dating life. It may have nothing to do with you being Indian.

I had to laugh about the one poster who commented on the dog walking; I have encountered that too. I have a small fluff dog that is totally harmless and the reaction by older Indian people walking in the evening is quite funny in an odd way. They are terrified despite my reassurances and giving the walkers a wide berth.

As far as Indian food, my complaint about this is a lot of Indian food menus give no real explanation about what a dish consists of....they assume you know what the Indian terms mean. And sometimes the workers can be rude regading questions.

Is that assertion consistent with a culture not far removed from the caste system? I dated an Indian chick(born in the US and very Americanized) in college from NOVA. She didn't seem to mind having me around her family or Indian friends too much.

I also dated a Vietnamese chick (who lived in Vietnam until the age of 13!) and on several occasions she took me to little Siagon for dinner. She definitely did NOT want me to meet her family however!

In retrospect it seems that they enjoyed showing off their "trophy, white boyfriend".

To the OP: I have no problem with Indians at all. But I definitely think you may find it hard to date white women unless you are sufficiently "Americanized".

I think Indians are just like the rest of us...trying to figure out how to survive in this shitty world. I don't know many, but the ones I work with are good people, very intelligent. They love wearing slippers and are terrible tippers. They are very tight with the cash...but that is probably a good thing. Give em a brake. Better than our mexican and central americans 'brothers' who come here, completely trash everything, and western union all their money to their families back home.

1. Indians are no better or worse than any other group, but you make a mistake assuming they are all highly skilled in IT. They have just as much of a range of skills as any other group - some are great and some really suck

2. I've seen several cases of Indians outright copying resumes from other Indians - once found a resume that was an exact copy of another Indian, just the name changed on top. I've also seen cases of them having their more highly skilled friend do a phone interview, only to have someone else show up in person.

3. India is filled with graft and corruption. The habits don't get left at home. Not saying that other ethnic groups are saints, but honesty and ethical practices are not what I'd call hallmark of the Indian employee or business person.

They are all creeps, I mean PERFECT PEOPLE in every way. Every last one of them.

I can only eat the food once every six months or so.

I don't like the culture that pushes arranged marriages.

I know some Sikhs who are really cool.

I grew up with some Sikhs who are still amongst my best friends. No different than any other kids growin up. Well, except for the turban.

Arranged marriages are okay with me if it's okay with the folks getting married. I've know a few that seemed to have great families and be genuinely happy. To each his own.

Not sure where you guys get this stuff, however- these people are experts at lying and "riding the wave". I can count on TWO FINGERS how many times I've worked with an Indian who has been honest (and I work in IT). Talk about a systemic culture of deception for no reason. And forget about Pakistani's, that's Indian lying x 10. The former ambassador to Pakistan stated:

"A Pakistani will sell their own mother to you for the right price".

This hasn't changed.

Whomever says that they are "great at" IT, doesn't know the industry. They are great at repetitive tasks, give them anything to analyze and they shut down. This is why as far as population is concerned (second highest population in the world), you see very few of them in top positions. They are known in this industry as liars.

I once had a contract with an IT company. Their account rep was
from India and it seemed that no matter what I asked for (under
contract) the results were never what I had intended. When I
confronted "Curry Breath" over the issue he started out by telling
me what a big shot he was with his company and that I really didn't
understand the nature of his approach. No problem. Contract
not renewed and company replaced with a vendor who could deliver
the results that I expected. Our contract officer sent his company
president a letter to that effect and "Curry Breath" was in deep
shit. I hope he enjoyed his next performance review. Nothing like
losing a $1 million per year contract over poor interpersonal skills.
Guess he forgot who was paying the bills.

As a longtime Indian who grew up in NOVA since the age of 10, I can offer some hones opinions. The "older, original" Indians who emigrated durng the 60s and 70s work hard and make best effort to appreciate and assimilate into the American culture. Almost all that that came over during that time were highly skilled, professional type who were recruited for their credential and work ethic. During the last 10-15 years, the wave of the "H1B IT types" has produced very poor quality people, most from backwoods South India villages. I agree most are habitual liars, cheats, have hygene issues, and are here to only take but give very little back to America. Unfortuantely, for those of us who are here for the long term and living the American Dream, get shafted and stereotyped from this recent wave of "liars and cheats". Indians in the workplace used to be prized for their hard work, dedication, and integrity. Unfortunately, this is no longer true. Many of my Indian friends share this view....I would not here an Indian who just got off the boat but will consider hiring one that graduated from a US college.

Totally agree with you on that point. I have graduated here and at that time I thought very few people come here directly on H1. But after staying in NoVA for a year I have witnessed a hell lot of people especially from the south of india.

note the difference between Indians and Paki..to me, they all look the same. However, I think the difference I noted- Indians are Hindu mostly and Paki are mostly Muslim. In my opinions, Indians has better affection towards USA. They are more patriotic towards this country. On the other hand, Paki mostly want to destroy it. (Paki wants to destroy India too, although they used to be same country before the British invasion..weird)

Most of the Indians I have known and worked with are generally stand up, trustworthy guys. And interestingly, many of them share Indo's view of their fellow countrymen. For some reason the more provincial ones cannot or refuse to piss in urinals and instead piss on the floor below the urinal. Or so it seems.

The only Paki I ever worked with was a backstabbing liar and a major misogynistic asshole.

"do not like indian men" -- I am white but my wife, who was born here, is of Indian heritage. I asked her about this and her guess is that it might have to do much more with appearance and general behavior than ethnicity.

If you are good looking, take care of your physique, workout, live a healthy life and don't send all your money back to India, her view is that American women might be more inclined to date you or at least give you a chance.

Taking care of your self probably means wearing a nice cologne (go to a department store and the girls will help you), clean clothing (if you wear it 3 times, clean it), joining a gym, be well groomed, work on ditching the accent, etc.

Granted, her views are probably based on the experience of her sister who although was born here, choose to marry an engineer who immigrated from India. I must tell you, it is quite an experience to listen to their stories.
He thinks that it's okay for his parents to visit and stay for 6 months every year and the parents expect to be hosted by my sister-in-law. After a few weeks their snide remarks about her dressing caused her to snap and modify their return tickets. Instead of 6 months, they left after a few weeks. Their son left his American wife and went back to India. I think I know how this will end for them.

WASHINGTON - A local man pleaded guilty to bribing federal officials to get government contracts in a scam that involved millions of dollars and went on for several years.

Larry Corbett owned two construction firms in Northern Virginia. He paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to a program manager at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Kerry Khan, in exchange for help getting tens of millions in government contracts.

Khan admitted receiving roughly $30 millions in bribes from multiple contractors.

As a young white man dating a young indian girl, I'd say the only bad things about some Indians have to do with the strict indian adults who want their kids to only talk to other indians. Not the case for my girlfriend, but it is for other indian people I know. Also, I know quite a few white women who really like indian guys

Ill chime in. Many diverse opinions here.

Bluntly speaking, I think white women tend to prefer white and black men first only because they are more outgoing and are in greater numbers. I work in IT and I can say from experience Indian engineers have pretty big ego's. However, they are very smart so they can back it up I guess.

I think most women are primarily focused on a guys hygene and dress. Doesn't hurt to be easy on the eyes as well. There is an Indian women who I work with and she is better looking than all the other women on the floor. She is absolutely gorgeous.

Most of the Indians that are here in the Fairfax area are 2nd and 3rd generation so I think they are still in the process of being westernized.

I have no problems with them, except pilling 10 deep into an apartment. They do not trash the place, do not litter, and in general are quiet and keep to themselves. I respect the indians for that. I have no problem living next to, and help them out if needed.

At the other end of the spectrum is the violent negro's and the scum of the earth illegal dirty hispanics. The illegal hispanics in this area need to have a final solution. They are nothing but locust.

I've lived in this area my whole life (25 years) and have thorough experience with Indian people. My take is Indian people for the most part are nice and make education a much higher priority than other groups. They also try to assimilate to American culture more than the Latinos and others do (sometimes to the point you see through it so much that its kind of annoying) but I applaud them for their effort in that field.
However, I do have one quelm, a couple years back I delivered pizzas out in Chantilly. A LOT of Indian people order pizza and they always tip 2 dollars which ain't shit. It's like clock work, every delivery guy at the store dreaded an Indian person coming to answer the door. By the way we had several Indian drivers that were very vocal about this observation. Sure you get bad tips from every race out there, but Indians were easily the worst and in my seven months doing that job I think there was one exception to the rule where I was tipped more than 3 dollars from an Indian person. They order VERY often! Every fifth house was an Indian house. I am writing this because I hope Indian people read this and learn how to tip there pizza guy. Sure its an easy job, but not as easy as you might think, and we are on the road for many hours which is a risk. I think 4 dollars is fair, I always tip my guy at least 5.
