Man Dies in Springfield area Crash
Franconia Police District – A 24-year-old Woodbridge man died following a crash around 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday, June 19.

Paul Wickwire was driving his 1998 Ford Explorer east on Leesville Boulevard near Hinton Street when he apparently lost control of the vehicle and ran off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle struck a fire hydrant and rolled over. The driver was ejected and died at the scene of the crash.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. Preliminarily, they believe speed may have been a contributing factor.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, e-mail at www.fairfaxcrimesolvers.org or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.

In 18 years on the force, I've never arrived at the scene of an accident and had to UNBUCKLE a dead person. Wear your seatbelts, citizens...Christ...

"they believe speed may have been a contributing factor"

Leesville Blvd is a residential street in North Springfield, and he was ejected from his truck? There are kids walking to the pool on that road. Yes, speed was a contributing factor.

First of all Paul was a good person and enjoyed helping others, He never did anything to hurt anyone nor would wish bad upon anyone .. for people to be saying cruel things thinking they are right is just plain ignorance .. If tables were turned and this was someone you knew or loved it would be a different story .. are you really bringing up records on him? EVERYONE has a record but you think you are so great but to decide that his record justifies his death just sick .. perhaps everyone should be judged on record to whether or not your death it what you deserve dumbfuck .. HE WAS NOT INTOXICATED for all you people who thin you know ..

not everyone has a record you imbred low-iq waste of skin. I don't and most of the public doesn't let alone one after another, he doesn't have one recently at least but that's it.

Idiot speeds down a residential street at 11:45 at night on a Tuesday.
Idiot hits a fire hydrant, rolls his SUV.
Idiot was not wearing a seat belt, so was ejected from the vehicle and died.
Anonymous visitors to this site make comments reflecting on the stupidity of aforementioned events.

Now comes the craziness:

Other anonymous users try to explain that stupid acts by driver are irrelevant because driver was otherwise a nice person who liked kittens and loved walks in the rain.

These users get butthurt that other users are simply commenting on facts surrounding senseless death of the driver.

-------

Somehow I think that the mother, father, brother and sister of deceased are much more upset by the circumstances of the death than you.

Also, I think members of his family could care less what you or I think at this point and are in mourning for their lost relative.

Requesting that the site be taken down or users be banned for offering opinions on the events surrounding the death of Paul Wickwire shows that you need to have your own internet privileges revoked.

You should sell your computer and never go on the internet again if this stuff offends you.

He was operating his vehicle in a manner that would be considered reckless...by definition since he lost control of it with no other vehicle apparently involved.

He was operating it at a high enough rate of speed to roll it.

He did this on a two-lane residential street:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Leesville+Boulevard,+North+Springfield,+VA&hl=en&ll=38.799145,-77.199662&spn=0.00158,0.002781&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=51.841773,91.142578&oq=Leesville+Boulevard+&hnear=Leesville+Blvd,+North+Springfield,+Fairfax,+Virginia&t=m&z=19&layer=c&cbll=38.79916,-77.199582&panoid=Sxf-LqS4ngvTF2uQlYF4uw&cbp=12,75.01,,0,3.99

http://goo.gl/maps/ndKi

He could have easily killed someone who was out walking their dog or taking a stroll.

He also had a history of vehicular offenses...as well as TWO counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor...and these are only the times that he was CAUGHT...in VA. Who knows where else he has offenses or what other laws he broke without being caught?

Hmm...well, actually, I can think of at least one other vehicular offense - failure to wear a seatbelt.

No argument, this is a tragedy for his friends and family I am sure, but you aren't going to get much sympathy here when you portray him as some sort of saint.

And no asswit, I don't have a record...and your claim that "everyone has one" just shows how twisted your perspective is.

I know you probably realize this and don't care, but people who know or loved these people you talk about go to the internet for support. Reading about their friends or family makes them feel better or helps them cope. Stumbling across you people who get some kind of senseless enjoyment in this is very disturbing. I know some of them have read your garbage and I'll tell you, it's a horrible thoughtless thing to get some laughs from this kind of stuff.

Idiots....

Who is laughing? All I read are facts being posted.

We all drive everyday (well most of us at least) and theoretically these accidents could happen to any one of us.

However...

The reoccurring theme on here are news stories of individuals who through a series of bad decisions ended up killing themselves and others. As repeated by many on this particular story, Mr. Wickwire did a bunch of things that could have killed others in addition to himself.

Perhaps, perhaps when people read these discussions, they might, just might, choose not to speed through a residential neighborhood. They might, just might, choose to wear a seat belt. (Not in this case) They might choose not to text and drive or drink and drive.

If you want to somehow take something positive from Mr. Wickwire's death is that maybe his stupidity might be a warning to others so that they do not experience a similar fate.

Pj was an AMAZING person! His true friends and his family are grieving and I cannot believe that some people are so heartless as to say something foul about someone who has passed on. Perhaps instead of worrying about someone else's criminal records you should try to find your heart and warm it up a bit!! All of you saying such cruel and hurtful things clearly don't know him or you wouldn't be saying anything negative. He was an amazing person and loved by many!! He will be missed dearly!

Look. Stop posting this stuff about how offended you are.

If PJ was so amazing, why not post just that? Tell us what you will miss about the guy. Why not list his accomplishments? We know nothing about him other than he killed himself in a car accident.

Someone on another thread tonight wrote a few lines about how his cat had died. It was really touching.

If you really value this guy's memory, write about that -- ignore the other posts.

While that is good advice, better advice would be to not post on or read this forum (or one like it) if you are a family or a friend. Keep it on Facebook or somewhere else more personal. This site states that it is to help improve communication between people and asks that we post things that we think others would be interested in. First of all, I don't see how strangers making cruel remarks about a person that has passed (for whatever reason) could possibly create anything but pain and anger. Please get your facts straight before showing your ignorance in posting comments about something you obviously have assumed and really know nothing about. After browsing this site it did help me to realize one thing...it should be banned! I will do everything possible to see that changes are made or that the "Underground" stays underground where it belongs (as in deleted, eliminated, etc.,) So far it is only shown as a place for people to lash out at others and incites nothing but anger. If you really want to make a point or get a message across, try doing it in a proper, intelligent way...it might make a difference then. But....then again, some of the comments that i've read on here about Paul Wickwire clearly comes from someone who may not be capable of anything more than the ignorance that they've shown. Lastly, it is not interesting to read about people bashing other people...Maybe you should consider changes in your description of what this site is intended for Underground.

Terri...

Take this for whatever it is worth.

What you just posted is the worst kind of censorship and you have the narrowest, dim-witted mind I have seen on this message board in a while.

Why?

Because you do not have enough sense to realize that YOU were the person who came here and read this site. You were the person who sought it out. You clicked and read through the postings. You are participating in this web site and are actively creating content on it.

For all intents and purposes you are actively supporting this site.

Make sense?

This is a public forum where opinions are like assholes -- everybody has one.

Who appointed YOU as the arbiter of what is right and wrong in this world? Do you want to control what is on other web sites too? How about web sites in China or Russia? Don't you think that the dictator in Syria would like to remove content that he finds objectionable?

Just because you don't like things that you read on here, doesn't mean that it shouldn't be allowed to exist. Freedom of speech is the First Amendment for a reason. People have a right to act like assholes and duchebags. The more stupidity that they post, the dumber they look.

Back when television was the only way we used to get our media, one of the best pieces of advice you could ever hear was this:

If you don't like it, change the channel!

There are billions of other web pages on the internet. There are perhaps trillions, who knows how many. I suggest that you put a filter on your own computer so you are not allowed to visit any objectionable web sites, just like the kind people put on their children's computers.

Obviously you are mentally incapable of engaging in an adult dialog. You deserve to only visit Disney-themed web sites with rainbows and unicorns. In fact, I demand that the authorities make it so you can ONLY visit Rated-G web sites.

How does an accident make someone a murderer? None of the facts from the police dept.state that there was alcohol or speeding involved. It is still under investigation genius. You call someone that you know nothing about a scum bag...people like you are the ones that are just taking up space and air that a good person like Paul Wickwire should be here using.

They don't understand that they are presenting themselves as heartless, immature, ignorant people. Who are any of you to judge this man or anyone else for that matter? This site is nothing but a place for people to show how stupid they are and to incite hate and anger!!!

I came here to read this forum (garbage) because my daughter came to me and told me about all of the people, that didn't even know Paul, on here posting bad things about him. I have no interest in this forum except for the fact that it allows others to voice opinions about those they know nothing about and criticize someone who was a fine, decent, caring person. There is a memorial tonight at the scene of the accident...pay attention to the number of real human beings that attend...I think that this will speak for the kind of person Paul was without words or a site full of idiots inciting hate and anger!! I welcome your reply.

Actually Terri, I'm going to have to ask you to leave. You're not emotionally capable to deal with this site.

Not to mention your abject, self righteous douchebagness. No wonder you identify with the hooligan Paul Warwick.

Please just leave and never come back.Don't make us call Cary to remove you forcibly.

But no you prefer to hide behind a computer screen bashing someone you have no sense about to feel better about your from what im seeing fucked up life .. its cowardly .. you wouldn't dare say anything of what your saying on here to anyone in person that knew him ... so i rest my case ..

Right in the police report it says that speed is a factor. How else do you roll an SUV?

No one said the guy is a murderer, but based on what he was doing that night he could have been.

I understand that "friends" might be upset by the circumstances of this guy killing himself, but the facts are facts. If he had just had a seat belt on, he probably would not have been ejected from his Explorer.

Sad story. I'm sorry that you have lost a friend, but coming on here to yell at us about it just means that you guys are troublemakers.

At least try to write something intelligent and use good grammar, then maybe people will read what you say and not how you say it. I would have to say, based on how you write, I am more intelligent than you.

Great way to plan a tribute to your friend. Invite others to come and brawl during his memorial.
With friends like you, he probably did kill himself on purpose.

This makes no sense. Write in English using proper grammar please. Besides, inviting someone to a vigil and not telling them where or when is pretty cowardly.

"We invited you and you didn't show! Pussy!"

Maybe everyone can wear their seatbelt so they aren't thrown from their vehicle and wreck on the way there.

Terri, let me try.

Depending upon the age of your daughter, this could be a good learning/parenting experience. And I do feel sorry for the loss of your friend.

Maybe, "people tend to judge someone based upon their accomplishments. All these people know about Paul is his police record (most people don't have one and at least one of his items makes him look like a pervert) and the fact that the last few decisions he made in his life were very bad ones." I don't know about why he was speeding through that neighborhood (maybe a mechanical issue with his Explorer??) but he chose not use a seat belt.

Then, "if people don't recognize that Paul was a good person, maybe someone should tell those people what Paul did that proved what a good person he was, instead of calling them 'idiots'. That is, post what wonderful things Paul did. Not just 'he was a wonderful person,' but list what those wonderful things were."

But your penchant for censorship is another story. No sympathy there.

Yep, a roadside memorial is already in place. If I owned that house at the scene the memorial would be in my trash toter as fast as it accumulates.

Though I didn't know Paul personally, I knew of him through fb posts from a mutual friend. From my interpretation of Paul's personality, he is probably laughing hysterically at these posts, because he in fact is shaking his head for being a dipshit. We all make decisions that weren't well thought out, some of us just escape our early passing by chance. 24 is way too young to be taken out of this world, it is very sad indeed. But, people also form their opinion's and post them in this internet age that has been created instead of just idle gossip in past. As some have suggested, use this to show the value Paul gave you to cherish his memory. Let the others show the importance of driving safely in order to prevent such a tragedy, even if it is stated in a negative light.

I'm reading this and I'm like "Leesville, Leesville........where have I seen that before?"

@ccw - if Paul wasnt giving a FUCK about safety (i.e. laughing at ppl who'd be upset at the fact he could have killed another driving that fast down that street) then it sounds like he was an asswipe. Cherish that memory, yo. My opinion is that only asswipes drive that fast around other ppls houses and maybe it's HIS memory instead of "others" that should be used to "how the importance of driving safely in order to prevent such a tragedy, even if it is stated in a negative light."
@Orenthal - or if one just uses one's brains and drives a little more with COMMON sense

@Ito - a twitch of the wheel at 30 or 35 MPH isnt gonna kill ya .....and that's 5-10 OVER the limit on Leesville. This isnt an "accident" - dont get it twisted, my friend
@Facts - I wonder if the woman who killed her kids in Fairfax at 100 MPH had the same "mechanical" issues. I'm betting those "mechanical" issues involve a glass pipe of some sort Lolz

He's still an asswipe, but he didnt have kids in the car so he's a little better. But still - how the hell you flip a truck like that on a street like that is beyond me. Some of y'all SAME ppl saying he was great, never did anything to harm a soul, etc.........would be the EXACT SAME PEOPLE who would have been mad at hell being woken up quarter to Midnight hearing some ROARING v6 ENGINE coming down yr street (crash notwithstanding) so even if he didnt crash, he still was OBVIOUSLY not the type of person to GIVE A FUCK about others. To the family and friends of Paul: Let me join the few normal people on Fairfax Underground that have expressed condolences in the tragic loss of Paul. I was there and regret that there was nothing we could do to save him. As one of the first people to reach the vecical I can tell you there was no sign of life, he was already gone. It was very fast and I'm sure he didn't suffer.

To the various posters that have posted some of the garbage above I pray you never loose a friend or love one in such a tragedy. Some of you obviously have zero sense of compassion for anyone. It's like you are dead inside and feel nothing for anyone. You are the perfect example of what happens when our schools teach that man came from an animal. You have become animals, you are an embarrassment to humanity. The need to make cruel jokes, harass friends of someone that was killed and demonstrate what savages you are is pathetic. I met one of Paul's best friends the other day. He was grieving the loss of his friend as is many of his friends and they don't need your mean spirited, psychotic remarks. Oh and the Vigil that some idiot was mocking, tons of people were there. God bless you all as you adjust to the loss of your friend.

@Gordon - My point is that even responsible drivers can make a mistake. That obviously was not the case here.

By the way, it's easy to kill yourself doing 35 on a road like this -- jerk the wheel to the left and hit another car doing 35 in the opposite direction.

Hitting a car going the other direction is basically the same as hitting a telephone pole, tree, or wall.

@stat - http://bit.ly/OeKrBr
@Kardinal - only if that telephone pole or tree is doing 35 MPH too LoLz - no, my friend..........not the same thing at all.........
@Ito - yeah.............but you know Hoss wasnt going 35...........And on a street like that, why would you be jerking the wheel around, y'know? If this crash happened on Springvale or Leigh Mill, I'd feel differently cause those are twisty country backroads. Or like I could COMPLETELY understand this crash happening on something like Telelgraph. But Leesville? I'm sorry but if you are stupid enough to drive in such a way on such a road that you could actually FLIP your vehicle? You are a cpl passengers shy of an HOV lane, plain and simple.

Yes, they are the same thing. Lrn2Physics.

When two things collide, the overall energy is divided between the two. A car is designed to be far more compressible than a tree, pole, or wall, so it absorbs a great deal of the energey. Non-compressible objects like trees, poles, and walls do not absorb any of the energy, so it all goes into the car that hits them.

Basically, if two of the same cars of the same mass and compressibility hit each other head-on going 100mph, it's EXACTLY the same as one of those cars hitting a wall going 100mph. The only differences are when one car is more massive or less compressible than the other. That's why if one of them is a bus or a rig, it's MUCH worse for the car they hit, because the overall energy is much higher, and the larger vehicle is far better able to absorb that energy than the smaller.

I didn't know Paul but want his family and friends to know that I have had them in my prayers as they grieve the loss of him. This is a terrible tragedy as all accidents are. I am truly sorry for your loss and will continue to pray for you.

To those weak minded and sick individuals writing cruel things and making fun of the tragic death of this young man, I never knew there were so many mentally I'll

People in Fairfax county but you are in luck because you can have yourselfs checked into the mental hospital right next to the hospital and maybe they could help you because anyone who laughs at such a horible tragedy is truly sick in the head. I pray you get help and pray the citizens will continue to work together to get this awful site banned or work together to make it a site that can heal and not hit with words.
Again my sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Paul. I am praying for you and I know other compassionate individuals in Fairfax county are as well so ignore these mentally ill
Terrorists on this site they are clearly sick individuals and do not represent the majority of Fairfax citizens.

The next time you talk to your imaginary friend, I mean baby Jesus, could you ask him why he hasn't sent me the 42 virgins I asked him for?

Please ask the sky daddy why he hasn't made it rain for a few weeks.

I figure you must be in good with him. Every time I have tried to speak with god I never hear anything. When you talk to him, do you hear his voice? Or does he just appear to you on a piece of toast or as a stain on a window?

@ito - you need to unblock yr ears if you really wanna hear Him :)

@praying - it's not mentally ill to drive normal speed in residential neighborhoods ................

it's not mentally ill to be pissed off at people who could have given a fuck about other ppl as they drive thru the neighborhood at high rates of speed that could kill others...........

Aint funny what happened. Aint funny at all.

As for yr friend - FUCK HIM! You want to paint the "it was just a simple accident picture",you go ahead and do that................but it's still BULLSHIT! Aint no way he was driving normal speed when this accident happened. And if you ppl CONTINUE to make excuses for his behaviour, then he's just going to look like MORE of an asswipe.

Not an accident if yr traveling too fast for roadway conditions.

Seriously, of all the fucked up, winding, poorly engineered roads in Northern VA, with all the crazy traffic we have on the major roads like the Beltway, 395 and the FFX County Parkway, it's hard to believe this fuck up managed to kill himself by speeding down this rather nice residential street at 11;45 on a Tuesday night under perfect weather conditions.

The funny thing is that people come to his defense saying, "He hadn't been drinking!"

For me this makes it even worse! At least if he had been drunk you might understand the stupidity involved.

The bottom line is that he wasn't wearing a seatbelt. I believe there were airbags in that SUV too. If he had at least buckled up, he would probably still be terrorizing the roads of NOVA like all the other idiots.

Right you are. A few months ago the power steering hose in my Explorer burst. Fortunately I was in a parking lot when it happened. You never know.

@Facts - however, I notice you are still alive. ANd I'm betting if you were drving a normal speed down Leesville and that happened, the worst thing that would have happened is a regular car accident............

@Ito - It really is sad how quickly life can be taken. Not a single moment is promised to us, y'know?

HONESTLY...
Paul was a good person to his friends and his family. Have some compassion to the people who loved him that might be reading this. He died so recently, it's still a shock. A man's death is nothing to laugh at you morons, what if this was your brother? Or son? Or boyfriend?... God knows that everyone makes mistakes and I know that every single person postng on this site has gone over 25 in a residential zone at one point in their lives.
He didn't die of something stupid, he died in a tradgic, unexpected accident that shook the lives of tpeople who were close to him. And he is not a pathetic fool for it. There's no telling as to why these things happen but I guess we all have our time. It's ridiculous to try to accept that maybe this was just his; and maybe it's none of any of your business to be judging him in any way. He doesn't even get to breathe anymore, and you're sitting there typing about how dumb you think he is. You're the pathetic ones.

Ok, Honestly? This is NOT a site to mourn. I'm telling you - STAY AWAY FROM HERE IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE WHAT PEOPLE TRULY FEEL ABOUT YOUR FRIEND. IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE IT, THEN MOURN YOUR FRIEND IN PRIVATE! But this is a public thread and we have opinions on it you may not want to hear. I truly am sorry for the loss you feel in your heart..............so PLEASE take my advice and STAY AWAY from this thread if you are not ready to hear what some ppl have to feel about this.

A man's death is
> nothing to laugh at you morons, what if this was

if it's funny how he died, then yeah it is something to laugh at. I know when I die (Burke Center and Roberts Pkwy some day) as I'm bleeding to death in turn lane, I know I'll never see my kids again and that I'll be being made fun of on Fairfax Underground (best part is you guys wont even figure out it was me til later LoLz) and that's just the facts of life, Tootie :)

God knows

if he was going over 25 then it wasnt a mistake. He was speeding on purpose, recklessly by the sound of it. And because he lost his life doing such a worthless action then it kinda does make him a fool. I wouldnt necessarily go as far as to use the word "pathetic"............................but ANYBODY who drives that fast in a residential neighborhood is a FOOL! And to try and excuse your friend from that just because he died...................well I'm sorry but real life doesnt work that way. If he had killed somebody who had just parked his car in front his/her house after a long day at the job instead just killing himself, would that STILL be a "mistake" to you? Then words like "pathetic" would be just the tip of the iceburg. I'm not bringing that scenario up as a CouldShouldaWoulda - I'm just using it to point out that your friend could have CARED LESS if he had injured or killed someone by his driving on that street that night............which is why they call it RECKLESS Driving.

It's ridiculous to try to accept that maybe

he was on a public residential street in the middle of the night, NOWHERE NEAR HIS OWN HOUSE, and driving recklessly........................ Yeah, it's our business to talk about how what happens in Fairfax County. Read the top of yr screen:; Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication between residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.

And what yr boy did on Leesville Blvd most CERTAINLY qualifies as a topic of "interest"

Sorry you dont like how ppl feel about it. But it's the truth. And his memory will be tainted by his death by some ppl. You wont be able to change his actions, hun.

Fairfax County Police report a 24-year-old Woodbridge man died Tuesday at about 11:45 p.m. following a crash on Leesville Boulevard in the Springfield area.
