FAIRFAX CITY, Va. - Police in Fairfax are looking for a hit and run driver who struck a pedestrian Friday night on Fairfax Boulevard.

That 33-year-old man is in a coma and fighting for his life.

Just ten days ago, a 27-year-old woman and her two daughters died in a crash in the same stretch of Fairfax Boulevard and a fourth victim remains in critical condition.

"People are going to fast out here at times," Sgt Joe Johnson of Fairfax Police says.

Friday night at 10:30 pm, two friends were walking east bound on the sidewalk on Fairfax Boulevard at Warwick Avenue when one of them was hit by a White Suzuki Vantera SUV. The force of the impact sent the victim airborne. He landed about 50 feet further down the sidewalk. His 17-year-old friend wasn't hurt.

Police also have some surveillance tapes from the car dealerships at the intersection.

"We've already pulled them. We have them. They're at the station right now. The Criminal investigations team is enhancing them," Sgt. Johnson says.

The man who was struck is from West Virginia. Police are trying to locate his family. Anyone with information is asked to call Fairfax City Police at 703-385-7924.

That earlier crash wasn't even on Fairfax blvd. When they created Fairfax blvd they did it in a confusing way west of Kamp Washington.

I hate that stretch of roadway. Right now with the construction it is even worse.

Where are the police? We need to crack down on aggressive drivers!

The police tend to be down closer to Stringfellow Rd and 50.

They need to concentrate more on route 50 near the new Wal Mart and the trailer park.

@cops - um, two different jurisdictions. Stringfellow is in the county. The new Walmart is in the city. And NEITHER of those locations are anywhere near were this young man was struck. This happened near Paul VI High which is also in the city. And yeah, the cops are there all the time on that part of 29/50

"The new Walmart is in the city"

omg, I don't think it is. Never see city cops in the parking lot. But frrequently see county cops checking out the place.

Just out of curiousity, if no family can be found to claim him, what will the authorities do with the meat?

@walmart/Arlington - gotcha. However, the 29 Highway in FRONT of the place is City. It's city limits from just inside the Jermantown intersection. I guess the shopping centers South of 29 are still in the county, but 29 itself is in the city.

Mohammad Jabour, 33, was struck by an SUV while walking on the sidewalk on June 15. The impact threw him more than 50 feet into a parked vehicle.

He remains in a coma.

Call Lt. Rory Castillo of the City of Fairfax Police Department (703) 385-7848 if you recognize this vehicle or know anything else that may help the case.

Arrest Made in Serious Hit and Run Crash

City of Fairfax Police have completed the investigation of a June 2012 hit and run crash in which a pedestrian was critically injured with the arrest of a Fairfax area man. About 10:40 PM on June 15 the victim, a 33 year old Fairfax area man, was walking on the sidewalk of Fairfax Boulevard at Warwick Avenue when a vehicle traveling east on Fairfax Boulevard left the roadway and struck him, then continued east without stopping.

Investigators released a photo taken by cameras on Fairfax Boulevard at the time the crash occurred. As the result of an extensive investigation of leads generated by the media exposure, the vehicle and operator were subsequently identified. On November 28 the suspect driver met with the investigating officer at police headquarters and was placed under arrest for felony hit and run. Leon Andrew D Oliveira, 35, of 9176 Barrick Street, Fairfax, was transported to the Adult Detention Center where his bond was set at $2500. The critically injured pedestrian remains under medical treatment and faces a lengthy recuperation period.

The City of Fairfax Police Accident Reconstruction Unit and Criminal Investigations Division have made arrests in both of the serious hit and run crashes which occurred in the City in 2012, the June 15 incident and the fatal hit and run involving a pedestrian on Fairfax Boulevard on August 18.
