Military Helicopters

Anyone else see the 2 military helicopters (possibly CH-47s) fly really low over Centreville? They were so low and loud that they set of car alarm throughout the neighborhood. Between this and FFX1 it's getting a little ridiculous out here.

The only time I've ever noticed Chinooks flying that low around here was on 9/11, when they practically skimmed the tree tops. I do see them on exercises a few times a year over Reston, but they're not that low.

Then again, aren't we all pretty much used to air-traffic around here anyways? If you live around it long enough it becomes second nature, and for me at least it actually becomes weird when I don't hear it.

They do fly quite often, but I enjoy the sight actually. I saw one today, but it was no Chinook. Bigger actually.

Sound of freedom?

Guess the OP would rather have the sound of air traffic in the days following 9/11. Damn terrorists.

Why the concern? Its the sound of our brave fellow citizens who kick ass and take names. No worries, enjoy that sound of freedom, and may the bad guys continue to hear the sounds of Hellfire missiles and B1 Lancer flyby's with ordinance dropped :)

Its a slippery slope between the slow chipping away of Constitutionally granted rights and "drills" over America's skies to the formation of the police state we'll inevitably become. If you ask me, there's much to be concerned about. Do you like the idea of living in some sort of Orwellian dystopia? Love your county, not your government.

So if they aren't really "drills", what are they? Chemtrail missions? Do tell.

Chemtrails? No, it's actually much simpler. Shows of force. Sure, you can go ahead and think they're on your side, and they are for the most part. But those guns can be turned on you in the blink of eye. If the events in the Middle East have taught me anything about governments, it's that even though they say they're keeping you safe and they worship the same God as you, if they feel their power is threatented they will do every they can keep that power.

Ah...yup.

They were...low.

Our family was sitting at the dinner table and ALL simultaneously said: "What was THAT!?" as our house shook with the loudest helicopter roar I've heard in this location (20+ years).

Then again, we're about 2+ miles south of the museum so they may have just descended "for effect".

1984, a great book. And no doubt there are places this does apply. However, rest assured, remember the military has an obligation, to protect from enemies foreign and domestic. That's right, think of those guys up there as the ultimate check and balance, because that's exactly what they are. They are protecting our country, and our way of life.

As for the drones, that is where I do have some concerns, and perhaps we'd agree there. I'm not too sure about those, being used in the U.S., in fact, based upon the accident the other day, along with our rights and freedoms, this is a issue we probably do agree on. 4th amendment especially. But feel comfy with those drills, those guys and gals get it, and have "the right stuff." Unlike repressive military branches of China, Syria, and other places to name a few.

nra 75 you are a dumbass. what is the difference between drones and piloted aircraft? if one is an infringement on liberty they all are, whether the pilot is in the plane, or sitting in nevada.

drones are stealthier and lack conscience.

Hi Stupid,

Thanks for the nice way to start the day, LOL. Anyhow, there's a huge difference. Drones in U.S. airspace, is something I'm against. Its pretty well laid out in my arguments pertaining to the fourth amendment, if you are aware of what that is.

A piloted aircraft, with a qualified "pilot", many of whom I have befriended over the years, will tell you, that there's a huge difference in the fog of war at eye level, compared to a control room in Nevada.

Quit just bitching about the noise, and show our troops the respect they deserve. They allow us to argue here, nothing but props to them.

Gawd, you guys are dumb.

There is no difference where the pilot is sitting if the issue is surveillance. Maybe you could claim that a piloted aircraft would be less likely to drop bombs, but that's not the issue here. Hell, half the time in piloted aircraft the pilot isn't controlling the surveillance anyway, someone else is.

The issue here is posse comitatus and show of force inside the CONUS.

And what the hell does the fourth amendment have to do with drones.

Finally, we support the troops by not sending them on stupid missions which violate the constitution, not by excusing the incompetent civilian authorities who dream up crap like this.

Sick of the noise never served in the military have you. Until you have your opinion is not respected. As for FFX-1, hope if you ever need a ride to the hospital it's grounded that day.
