Summer School option

My son failed a class and they said he should attend summer school, but I don't understand this email his principal send to me it says. does this mean he had to passed the class in order to attend summmer school?

West Potomac High School is offering face-to-face summer school classes with a credit recovery option for students in grades 9-11 in certain classes and have invited Mount Vernon High School to send up to 100 of our students to their program. The program dates are July 9th through August 8th. The times for credit recovery are 8:00 am. – 12:00 pm.

The Credit Recovery Program is for students who passed the class they wish to retake at least one quarter this school year. The cost of this program is $300.00 with a sliding scale for students who receive free or reduced lunch. The following courses for credit recovery will be offered:

Algebra 1
Algebra 2
Geometry
English 9
Health & PE 9
World History 1
World History 2

if your not sure, pick up a phone and call them. thats how simple it is, and tell your kid to do better in school and they wont have to go to school during their summer vacation.
