Where is best (and cheapest) place to get tires for my car?

Anybody? I did some google searches and checked some reviews, but everything still seems pricey.

Costco. Cheapest and hands down the best warranty.

If you need no warranty and have the ability/equipment to install them yourself, try tirerack.

FWIW, tires are not something you should be looking to get cheaply. You don't need to buy racing Pirellis but, don't go cheap on your tires.

Tire Rack is great and you can have them drop shipped to a recommended installer (see the website). They offer an optional warranty, but most installers can do the same thing and it may be easier in the long run to do this locally since it cuts down on the hassle if you ever need to make a claim.

However, I have found that some shops (e.g., Mr. Tire) will more or less price match Tire Rack if you buy from them directly. I say 'more or less' since many installers charge more to mount and balance a tire from Tire Rack than if you buy it there.

This is what I experienced about six months ago:

Tire Rack Mr. Tire
General Altimax HP $104 $120
Mount & Balance 25 12
Shipping 10 0
Sales Tax 0 6
Total $139 $138

Total for 4 tires with disposal, shop fees, etc. was around $590.

My suggestion is to research your options on Tire Rack and then see if a local shop will hook you up. If you walk into Costco/Merchants/Pep Boys they are going to sell you what they have readily available, but they all have access to tire distributors which carry nearly every brand and model.

Costco has the best tire policy around. If you take a tire in that you have a nail in, hell you could hammer it in yourself, they will prorate the price of the tire based on the remaining amount of tread. No other place does this without a huge hassle.

I agree do your research, you'll find what I have found. I have purchased tires from Sears, Mr. Tire, Pepboys, Costco and hell, even Montgomery Wards (anyone here even remember them installing tires/auto work). I will never buy another tire from anywhere else as long as a Costco is anywhere near me.

I have a 2 year lease on my European import. I never buy tires or pay for repairs/service. It is included with my lease.
