ENJOY FAIRFAX WHILE YOU CAN

In 20 years Burke is gonna be the Reston of today. Except worse because it's probably the most obscurely located place in FFX, neighboring the lovely CDPs of Springfield, Annandale, and Centreville, all of which are deteriorating as well.

I believe, for the exception of Clifton, that we won't look at Southern FFX county the same way in the near future. All the action is to the north/silver line corridor.

So Burke is the next Reston, Centreville is the next Manassas, and Annandale is the next Bailey's/Culmore. My prediction is that Reston will prosper when it becomes too expensive for low-income to live there. All this talk about the Silver Line trafficing in drugs is hyped. There's drugs everywhere.

Finally, if they do end up pulling through the Silver Line to Ashburn, it will become the next McLean with all the disgusting rich sprawl popping up there, as well as major companies. They built the toll road right through the middle of the place for a reason. I'm telling you, the corner of 28 and 7 in Loudoun is gonna be the next Tysons. Kincora and Loudoun One are within like 100 feet of each other and they're planning a movie theatre inside Dulles Mall now. End of Loudoun Rant, I can just envision it being the next Fairfax certainly within our lifetime.

Public water and sewer is the root of the problem. Once you put it in the area goes through a 30 to 60 year cycle which ends in ghettoness. Fair Oaks is on the path to being the latest deadmall now that Springfield mall has fallen. Just look at how Fauquier has restricted utility's, the lot sizes are huge and this caused the poor immigrants that were run out of prince william to leap frog over Fauquier right into Culpepper. As far as I am concerned Fairfax has already lost most of its appeal.

Thanks.

This entire shithole of a country is circling the bowl. You have to get out of this area to see how bad it really is.

Uncle Sam printing his funny money keeps this area from the desolation you see in many other areas, but that can't go on forever.

Stash the beans and bullets---it's going to get bad, real bad.

And there it is. The whole ship is going down, each area is just doing it in its own way.

Going out in public on a weekend makes you wonder; does Central America have this many Central Americans? Does Korea have this many Koreans?
I'm not saying the immigrants, legal or otherwise, are the only issue here. After all, it's the dumb, rich, white people in public office that are steering this ship. But, Goddamn, you rarely hear English spoken in public anymore, and probably 1 in 10 people you pass is wearing their native garb. Add to that, these people mainly stay within their own kind, creating their own micro-culture in their specific area. More "X's"move to Town A because there's already a high "X" population there, so assimilation into the native culture won't be their priority. This happens over and over and over again until "X" is the majority. This would be fine if X were able to be self sufficient and not rely on programs from the Native Government, spoke the native language and attempted to "fit in" to their new surroundings. This rarely happens, but it's ok. We would rather dig our hole even deeper than risk offending someone who probably shouldn't be here to begin with. Really?

Do these things make this an attractive destination for "Americans" (English speaking, regardless of skin color) to live? Raise a family?

And although the OP doesn't sound particularly bright, he makes a good point. East is constantly moving west around here, ie; new Merrifield, Silver Line Metro, etc, etc.

Personally, I could care less about this area. It's lost. Give some of the regular people time to get out and fire-bomb the whole place.

Wow, you people bitch about a place that is cleaner, safer, has better shopping, schools, and recreational activities available than most of the rest of the world. Yeah, there are probably places nicer, but do they have the job market that exists in the DC area? Few do.

Places change, this area changes fast because of the changes in administrations, military transfers, and all the foreign nationals. It's ALWAYS been like that.

It's a whole lot better anywhere in Fairfax County than it was 20 years ago. THere are more restaurants, more shopping choices, more local community events, and more recreational choices. And while I don't have the exact stats on crime, it isn't really much different. People like to say, "when I was a kid here there wasn't any _____" But it isn't true. THere were murders, rapes, flashers, drugs, etc. Even in 'nice' places. You just didn't necessarily know about all of it because it wasn't as easy to learn about as it is now with the internet.

As for the idea that southern fairfax county going to shit, it's actually come up in stature with the closing of Lorton prison, and the area south of 123 is being kept more rural deliberately by the county planners and to protect the Occoquan watershed.

There are immigrants everywhere in America, deal with it. And yeah, some of them are illegal and some of them bring down property values, but then so do plenty of people born in the USA. Yeah, we might have a larger mix of immigrants, but we also gain some very diverse choices in eateries because of it.

Overall, I'd say the county is WAY better than it was 10, 20 or 30 years ago. But if you really don't like it, please, go back to wherever you came from. I'm sure it's exactly the same as you remember it and it was wonderful. That's why you left, right?

You are a fucking Moron. You think this place is better now because there are a bunch of kabob restaurants? Fuck the illegal spics that treat this place like the third world countries that they came from. Because of the "diverse choice of eateries" this place has turned into a shithole. I think that you are the one that needs to go back from where they came from.

Dude, you are delusional.

You think the Lorton area is better with the prison gone, and the 4-5 large residential properties that are now clogged with McMansions, an over-crowded high school and a fuckload of townhouses, with minimal increase in infrastructure? Delusional.

I was a toddler in this area 30 years ago, I lived here when Manchaster lakes was 100% woods, you think a Kolhs, a wal-mart and a bunch of strip malls is an improvement? Fucking delusional

You don't know what the fuck you're talking about. So please, for the love of god, shut. the. fuck. up.

@Gordon, thanks.

@William, this is where I come from. It sucked years ago, you had to go to DC to get a decent meal at a restaurant. Now, there are plenty of choices, good and bad. And the area is much more of a community than it ever was back then. Then 90% of the population moved every freaking year. No one gave a shit about the local community because they weren't staying here for long.

@Johnny, yeah, I do think it's better than school lockdowns because of violent prisoner escapes from an overcrowded, underfunded prison for DC criminals. There's now a number of nice parks, golf course, a better water treatment plant and better roads. If I wanted to live in 100% woods, I'd move out west to the middle of nowhere. As for the school being overcrowded, that's a whole political mess courtesy of a number of idiots on the board. The school was supposed to be a high school, not a secondary school. They added two whole grades without increasing the size of the building, of course it's crowded.

Minimal increase in infrastructure? 123 is considerably larger now, the water treatment plant was redone and enlarged. There's an elementary school, the secondary school, and a soon to be middle school. I95 has been widened yet again. They're adding I95 HOV access ramps to the new north Fort Belvoir area. The bus system routes have been increased and improved. Far from minimal when you consider this is the old part of the county. Most of the popular spending is in the north west area. Not exactly a minimal increase.

Clearly, you don't know what you're talking about.

The area was much better 20 or 30 years ago. It became a mess in the 80s with the mass population increase (about 2/3rds of which has been immigrants). We had half of the number of people, much less crowding and traffic, and a much nicer environment overall. Being able to get "a decent meal in a restaurant" (lol) is far out-weighed by the pain in the ass that it is to do pretty much anything around here now. Not even close to being "more of a community; rather, much less so.

My problem with the county is it is so damn over-developed and overcrowded. Boring suburban sprawl, bland development where they come in and level all the trees and put up cookie cutter cheap and ugly housing. That and all the traffic and the bad roads. Plus the cost of renting in this area is just way too high for what you get. I can't leave. My family is here and I have a good job but not enough savings or motivation to just up and leave.

No one is saying there hasn't been change, the point is that you're self-centered delusion that widening 123 at the cost of taking picturesque land from those homes fronting the road and replacing that acerage with large brick sound walls is better, that widening 95 to allow even MORE TRAFFIC to clog that road is better, and that putting schools in neighborhoods where there were none only to now bring oodles of cars, trucks, buses and traffic, is better, is all fucking delusional.

Just building infrastructure without regard to whether it's done PROPERLY is not an improvement. As stated by you, the school was botched. 123 is a joke with a stoplight every 200 yards, it's a joke there's a church every block requiring lane closures every Sunday and fuck tons of traffic.

The bike trails at larel hill are nice. Golf courses are a dime a dozen, granted the art house is nice if you're into that, certainly the county could have done worse with the property, but I would rather have the prison and the half dozen homes that were there 10 years ago, than the travesty that exists there now.

Lorton is just a tiny example of the shit box the county is becoming. Head down towards route 1 under 95 through Lorton to Lorton station. Lorton Station is improvement? funny.

Building homes where fat people can walk to a TGI Fridays is not improvement, it's the opposite.

That's probably why every one of your posts in this thread revolves around all the places your fat ass can go and eat like a fat truck.

I celebrate the diversity of Fairfax everyday. I enjoy driving through neighborhoods that were once nice clean single family homes. Now they house three families per unit, cars parked on what used to be grass and the residents running their own restaurant out of the home. I sleep well knowing my high taxes support ESL classes for people who shouldnt be here in the first place. Also my very generous welfare and food stamp programs support even more coming to this county where the streets are paved with gold.

When I see and hear men whistling and hooting at ten year old girls I am glad I can experience the flavor of the streets of El Salvador without leaving my neighborhood. Using the sidewalks as a toilet and vomiting on the 7-11 lot makes me want to encourage even more diversity. When I read of the non stop indecent exposure, rapes and murders in the county I hold mini celebrations of diversity.

If you dont like my post you can press one for English, two for Spanish or three to go F yourself.

Annandale wont be as bad as culmore, never! Koreans will never let it get that bad, the only bad part of Annandale is the heritage drive section of Annandale. The older spics seem to come to annandale while the thug spics stay in culmore. The older spics just loiter and whistle not as bad as the young thug ones.

@koreadale-obviously, you've never been on the Turnpike WEST of the Columbia Pike, have you? LoLz. "Loiter and whistle" was pretty much invented at yr Sev offa Hummer. Those apts across the way from Safeway has UN personell jaywalking all hours of the day, and the apts behind the Safeway sometimes makes Hybla Valley look like Sunnybrook Farms.
@north-sounds like you pressed K for Klan
@Johnny - Lorton used to just be a Federal Prision and a hillbilly bar. It was considered development and improvement to the area WHEN THEY BUILT A LANDFILL AND A RAW SEWAGE TREATMENT PLANT!!!! 123 may be a joke, but it's way more funny than the two laner it was 10-20 yrs ago (anybody remember the 3 passing zones between Fairfax and the County line?) Traffic was much better then, right LoLz.
You bitch about Lorton Station? Yeah, it sucks you dont have to wait 5 minutes to go under that one lane tunnel. And one of the few places where Rt 1's been widened in the last 4 decades as well as has access to a stupid train so they are actually ahead of the ball when in comes to traffic and building infrastructure properly................................
@Bobby and watchu - then head to Warren County - it's what yr looking for..........

All whites who predated the yuppie soccer mom invasion are hillbillys as you call them and God forbid a person point out the decline of springfield and you know the reason why.

Too bad some people take pride in their homes and hate to see the decline of its value and neighborhood due to zoning and code violations that are ignored by the county because they do not want to upset the pc agenda.

omg not this bitch-azz trick. Look douchey, you have no idea what you're talking about. Knock on any door of the people who live on 123 now and had their land turned into an asphalt jungle and ask them what THEY prefer, if THEY think there's been improvement. Everyone knows what a gum-guzzler like you prefers, what's best for you, cuz you're a douche.

You think anyone living ona two-lane scenic road wants it turned into a stop-light infested 4-lane through-way? Obviously you're monkey ass doesn't have to stand on 123 while your kids try to board the bus with texting fuck-stix like yourself whizzing by at 70mph for 200ft b4 you have to jam on your brakes to stop for 3 minutes so two cars can pull out of a mosque.

And the lights at the auto train are a joke and always allow for the ghost traffic not coming off the train the right of way. Every light on Lorton RD to Rt.1 is not an improvement. Who gives a fuck if there are 75 lanes if you have to stop every 100ft? dumb ass. that's not a fucking improvement.

Having been a long time resident I have seen first hand what happened to the neighborhoods around Springfield Mall and in the end the Mall itself. I am not sure how being pissed that a once good neighborhood being run into the ground is bigoted to people like Gordon B but I guess we look through a different set of glasses.

Perhaps if the county had done their job as far as zoning and code enforcement this could have been slowed or even stopped. But it appears no effort was ever made to stop the decline.
