Just for fun I looked at the FfxUnderground Arrest/Ticket search. Looks like his wife has a bit of a drinking problem.

Charlene Lugar sentenced in drunk-driving case
By Sylvia A. Smith Washington editor
WASHINGTON – Charlene Lugar, wife of Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., pleaded guilty to drunk driving last week, lost her driver’s license for a year, is required to attend alcohol counseling, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and paid a fine. The jail sentence was suspended.

She was arrested in November on drunken-driving and hit-and-run charges after hitting an empty parked car near their home in a Washington suburb. The hit-and-run charges were dropped.

A breath test administered at jail three hours after her arrest showed a 0.11 percent blood-alcohol level, above the 0.08 percent legal limit, according to court records. In Virginia, a person arrested with a 0.15 percent blood-alcohol level faces a mandatory jail sentence.

A statement released by Sen. Lugar's office the day after the incident said no one else was in Charlene Lugar's car, a Buick SUV, or the one she hit about 6:30 p.m.

Fairfax County Police spokesman Bud Walker said Charlene Lugar was charged with driving while intoxicated and hit and run. He said a patrol officer stopped Lugar's car at an intersection diagonal to the Lugars' home in McLean, Va., because of the front-end damage to it.

Walker said a three-hour lag between the incident and the breath test is within the normal range because of the time it takes to transport someone to jail.

Charlene Lugar, 77, paid a $250 fine and will be required to pay at least $400 for the alcohol classes. She is permitted to drive only to the classes, to attend Alcoholics Anonymous group.

So it took them 3 hours to get her a breathalyzer because apparently it takes 3 hours to get from McLean to Fairfax, which conveniently got her below the .15 mark that requires mandatory jail time.

In the end she got her license suspended for a year, a $250 fine and some ASAP classes.

Sounds like a pretty cushy result for driving so drunk (at 6:30 in the afternoon) that you ran into a parked car, fled the scene, and did enough damage to your own vehicle that a cop pulled you over just because your vehicle was so f'd up.

I was always under the impression DUI's were kinda serious around here.

Yeah, I wonder why it was recorded numerous times. I've seen this with other people's DWI records.

Blessed are the murderous.

if you have only just stopped drinking, your BAC is probably still going up when you are first pulled over. blowing multiple tries is pretty common.
