Anybody remember that Another Universe comic store in Springfield Mall

I believe there was a giant Predator Statue in the front...and the comics were located in the back with toys and accessories near the front.

Not really. Must have been after my time. When was it there?

Yes, they used to have one over at Fair Oaks Mall also. I stopped going to both malls when they took away all those "cool" stores I liked. *Raises a Glass* Farewell Another Universe, you are not forgotten.

This was in the mid 90s, and it was located at the bottom level near the escalators next to Gap and Macy's.

Yes, it was around the corner from Arby's on the East Side. Great place too. We used to go there all the time and buy Godzilla toys for my kids.

Forgot what else was at the mall? Time Out, the place downstairs with all the asian weapons and posters, Time Out 2, and a couple of hobby shops where you could buy D&D stuff

The Fair Oaks location was right across from Mrs. Fields at the Sears end of the mall. I used to work at that store, and started at the Springfield one.

Asian weapons and posters? You mean the place called Hong Kong?

I do remember the Springfield Mall store, but not the Fair Oaks store. You're right - there was a life-size, $25,000 Predator (or maybe Alien) statue near the front. Scared the hell out of me.

I do, they had one at Fair Oaks Mall with the giant Alien costume at that location. Miss both of them!

Remember time out?

Kids would be playing that Dance revolution game. I would leave the mall 1 hour later and the same kid would be on their playing that game.

I went there once and bought a bunch of Star Wars or Star Trek crap as a Christmas present for one of my nephews. I sometimes wonder if I was the only one who bought that stuff to be used as toys. My more usual haunt was the Disney store, a great place to find things for younger relatives, although I prefered the one at Tysons.

I'm reading an old X-Men issue (#309) and came across this ad, so I thought I'd google the store and see what came up. Thought you guys might appreciate this.

I worked next door to it at Natural Wonders for a little while. It was a cool store. Bonus points for multiple Dave Grohl run-ins.

Nerds unite! I'm in my late 30s now but do remember the Springfield store. I stood in line for hours when Image Comics had a big signing with a couple of their artists. No McFarlane, but I believe Jim Lee or was it Jae Lee was there. So was Silvestri, Liefield, etc. Jae Lee is a graduate of Robinson High School in Fairfax. Go R@ms!!! Bruins blow!!!

I was the manager of the sprinfield mall store and went to manage the fair oaks store when it opened. The store's were owned by a Steve Milo. We sold everything from Magic the gathering cards to logs! It was always a cool place to work and it was always fun seeing what new sci-if items came into the stores. Many comic book signings, magic tournaments in the fair oaks store on Sunday mornings.

It was a fun few years if you worked in retail! I still think it is a valid retail concept with the right website tie-ins.
There was a life size predator in the front of the Springfield store and an alien one in fair oaks. Occasionally we would get a parent complain that the statue was scaring their kid.

comic store? not unless it was recent like since m13 gang moved into springfield - just before the last remodeling, late 90's or 2000's

it had: spencer's, and coin arcades, a piano store, some other boring stuff

sears had: more than mostly clothing and chinese junk. sears used to have almost everything a family really needed to survive. sporting goods (guns, baseballs, hoola hoops), appliances, tools, auto repair, garden and seeds, kitchen eseentials, paint: you name it they had any except what didn't really matter for a family without money to burn who needed essentials of living

sears today: burgeoise mall retail, all made in china or pakistan, mostly illegal employees: not much of practical worth in the whole store for someone with raw basic needs

Don't remember that but do remember My Hobby (?) there in Fair Oaks Mall, next to I believe the smoke and cigar shop. Great little store. Bought a ton of Car Wars stuff there.

The only good comic store was Geppi's at the Crystal City underground, not too many places around.

That place was awesome.. the decor was ahead of it's time. They always had some edgy anime or something playing on the TV's. I'll never forget buying my first pog slammers and magic cards there, ha. Sorely missed :'(

The people who owned that store were also part owners of the Fuddrucker's hamburger restaurant over in Annandale. Their family also had one of the largest broccoli farms in the area back in the late 1890's. This was located over by where the Howard Johnson's in Fairfax Circle was before it closed.

Speaking of old stores from the 90's at the mall, does anyone remember that coffee shop that was designed to look like a cavern?
