I don’t even how this teacher keeps her job, working with impressionable kids at Mantua ES, body littered up by tatoos, and living fast & furious. In so many places, teachers with questionable morals and tattered past are asked to keep it moving… to at least another school district. But at Mantua ES they don’t even let parents know what their living hard living fast star teacher is really up to, other than that she is out, for weeks now, on “personal leave” so as to not know what kind of woman is teaching their children. WTF! If she is an incorrigible un-rehabilitate-able Alchy, and committing offenses showing a low moral compass, aren’t parents entitled to know? Why hide this from those whose children this woman instruct & impress?

So many teachers have problems with alcohol. What this Vanessa did is nothing new. Being a teacher does not mean you are special/above others. But what about these tattoos? Are they visible with her work clothes on? What are they of? Pics!

It could be worse. I know of a full time Special Education teacher in Caroline County, VA who is a drunk, druggy, dates an abuser and goes to raves in D.C. on the weekends.

First of all, let's be a bit non judgmental for a moment. Do you think no one has a DWI or makes mistakes? Honestly. We all do, and that's why the criminal justice system is what it is. Who knows, maybe she needed some help, and got it through an alcohol treatment program or something else.

Are you perfect? Does tattoos make you evil? How does this have to do with anything? If you have a problem with the teacher, why not tell her directly, in a kind and professional way instead of going online hiding like a coward? That's my judgement, you are a coward. And as for the reason why FCPS should NOT advertise this sorta thing............well that's cause it DISRUPTS the schooling and educational vibe WAAAYYYY MORE than the teacher's actual off-campus actions could. That's not something that we as parents WANT to do if we can avoid it. This is why we let the ppl who run the personnel part of the school system handle this sorta crap. I fail to see how tattoos are a big issue (assuming the tattoos themselves are not inappropriate).

Also, while drunk-driving is terrible, it isn't rare. People make mistakes. I feel like you are creating unachievable standards. You want someone to be a paragon of virtue, not be allowed to display minor body modifications, and yet pay them crap.

Obviously this teacher has serious issues to deal with, but how is this effecting your children? Is she arriving at work drunk? Or is she just irresponsible when she goes out at night? If so, how is this any of your business?

Nice teacher, sometimes can be strict. Like the reward system she had when i was in 5th grade-the tickets. had her 4 years ago. She was the teacher everyone liked.

This is great stuff here. It sounds like your building a strong case in the court of public opinion. People drink beers. 90%. People often have DWI's. They serve their debt to society, rightfully so. Often they learn a lesson from it. By outing her in such a fashion, you are not able to go directly to the person in question, and bring up concerns, or with her and a staff member(Supervisor) to allway your concerns. Proof of this? What has your plan been? Other than complaining on public boards, why not first approach the teacher in question, and discuss this. Amazing what happens sometimes with that. Then go up the chain of command.

If that doesn't work, then this is a last resort. If you have already done those steps, including going to administrators, have proof of this, numerous parents can get together pretty easily, then you don't have a case other than writing about her here. Great. Congrats.

I had no idea of her last name until I found this thread but I've seen her at a few area bars and I've heard from more than one person how easy she is. I've seen her completely hammered a few times and let me tell you it is not attractive. I really couldn't care less if she gets wasted after school hours but I can definitely see how she would show up for work hungover as fuck the next day and have to go puke. People do drink after college. I go out twice a year, someone takes our keys, and we go camping. We get smashed usually. And then we wake up, and go home the next day. Wow. And we aren't in our young 20's either. Big Fucking Deal.

This county is way too fucking anal retentive. Its Fairfax aka the land of entitlement. It isn't Disney world! Wake up or teach yourself. Put up with 30-40 kids of spoiled parents, who think their shit doesn't stink. Kids aren't the problem, parents are. I wasn't talking about drinking after college. I was talking about drinking to the point of having to throw up the next day, especially when you have to go to work that next day. If she went out and got so fucked up that she puked for two days straight I couldn't care less, as long as she isn't showing up to school and puking in the trash can just to make it through the day.

I'm not against you or anyone else having a few too many, or even more than a few. I just think that if you go to work and puke from the drinking you did the night before that there is a problem with that. Puke on a Saturday or Sunday morning or on a teacher work day, who cares? But show up hungover and in a bitchy mood to the kids because you were out until 2am taking shots is a bit different.

Hahaha, I heard about that a while back, didn't realize it was a normal occurrence. I don't personally know her but I've been in a bar where she was hanging out and one of our friends said "I should go talk to that girl, I bet I can bang her tonight." I have worked with this teacher and am glad this finally happened to her. You didn't have to help her out when she was too hungover to be prepared to teach...even though she taught at an elementary school the student did notice her behavior in the class.....even smelled the alcohol....

As a parent I am more concerned with what goes on IN the class with the teacher, than outside. As long as she performs in the class room, let her have a private life. I have several friends that are teachers. I can say, being a teacher is a rough job. Especially when a lot of parents do what this teacher is being criticized about. Fact is, a large percentage of our country is one step away from stepping into a loaded car...loaded. Anyone can get a DWI/DUI. You don;t have to be wasted, just have to reach the limit. Congrats. I'm glad you know they are public too. Congrats again. This proves still? Like I said, no one has apparently brave enough to personally go to her, and a superior if needed at the same time.

That's what really bothers me, is the audacity of making unproven comments, which could be considered libel in a civil court room. Again, great work on all of this research that still proves, that she got convicted and nothing more.

I only looked up the court record in response to your statement about the lack of conviction information.

None of my kids have had Ms. Rutherford as a teacher, and if she remains an elementary school teacher, none of them ever will, so I have no horse in this race.

If Ms. Rutherford believes she has been defamed, she should engage a lawyer and file an action for defamation in court. Once she has done that, she should have the judge issue a subpoena to gain the IP addresses of the people she thinks have defamed her, and proceed from there.

I've estimated the cost of bringing such an action and following it through to be in the low to mid-five figures between attorney's fees, court costs and computer forensics, and her likelihood of obtaining a judgement that will be collectible will be something between slim and none.

This is the source of the "audacity" of the original poster in making her "unproven comments", because anonymity on the internet is basically a license to defame without fear of consequences.

She's still out on the "personal issues" break, the kids love her replacement a Mantua-Mom-substitute team member (of the best clique of dedicated substitute teachers in FCPS; they'd work for free if it wasn't for pay) that's wonderfully supported by that 6th grade team, and team taught. The school year has only 1 month left and it's highly unlikely she'd be back this year. You can venture to say that her return to Mantua is slim to none for the upcoming school year. FCPS contracts are often renewed year-to-year, and her return/transfer to another school isn't guaranteed.

Vanessa is a pompous arrogant Instructor who moonlights as a tutor. She is a disaster to Gifted & Talented learners who need nurturing and have ADHD or any others who learn differently, yet very bright. She is rigid, has the same instructional style for all students and impermeable to kids who require more encouragement or motivation. To such kids, she treats them with contempt, and as lazy. While other staff would bend over backwards for such talented&gifted but challenged kids, Vanessa would just shun them and never nurture such kids, as she'd view them as high maintenance, or just unworthy of being Talented & Gifted. She thinks that for any extra effort, she should either be compensated for that, or the parents should waste her time not bringing their kids up to par.

She needs to go back to GMU as instructor of Math operations (to remedial Freshmen) or HS where the kids are not thin-skinned and are grown-ups. She really thinks her ish doesn't smell. When she was put in jail for her DWI, it was on school night and would have gone to school drunk had she not been stopped by Fairfax County Police. She was loaded, and was stopped because she was driving totally recklessly. She could have killed somebody, including herself.

Once you get to Frost your DC will drown in the sea of real advanced academics, and all that money you spent to get an IEP will have been wasted. By the time DC is in Woodson (no, you have no chance of TJ) drugs and sex will be more important than homework. And when it comes time to figure out how that happened, look in the mirror, lady. You have only yourself to blame.

I had her as a teacher about six years ago,
my siblings did as well. She was a really fantastic teacher. She was teaching math and science when I was there and she was really good about preparing us for higher level math. We did some algebra exercises that really stuck with me and helped me when I got to middle school. I remember she had some kind of sports tattoo and another one on her arm that was words or a star thing (nothing inappropriate). The kids all thought they looked cool and after the first week nobody really cared. We were in this weird big trailer that was connected to other trailers that year and kids would go to different trailers for different lessons so the four teachers had some drama with each other sometimes. She a mrs.green were friends I remember and they both did this ticket prize thing that was fun.

Anyway, I turned out fine. My brother finally learned long division and her class was the first year I saw him not come home crying. He did get tattoo when he was older though.

So many teachers have problems with alcohol. What this Vanessa did is nothing new. Being a teacher does not mean you are special/above others. But what about these tattoos? Are they visible with her work clothes on? What are they of? Pics!

It could be worse. I know of a full time Special Education teacher in Caroline County, VA who is a drunk, druggy, dates an abuser and goes to raves in D.C. on the weekends.
