If you get a ticket for dead tags in court, and you get the registration updated will that ticket be dropped?

most likely if the officer agrees it will be dismissed as "complied with law"...not surefire...but most likely...

If you show proof that you took care of it after the fact, but before the court date (i.e. have proof at the court hearing), the judge will dismiss the case and find you compliant, regardless of what the cop says (it's between the judge and prosecutor). However, if you have made it a habit of doing this before, they might not let you off.

The police officers prosecute their own cases where the defendant appears pro se (without an attorney). The prosecutor will not get involved in any case unless you have retained an attorney. Anyone who would retain an attorney for an expired plate should have their head examined.

Bring the new registration card WITH YOU into court. The judge MAY ask you to show it to the officer and then comply you with law. It is not guaranteed, however.

You may have been able to negotiate something in Arlington but it is the policy of the Fairfax Commonwealth's Attorney Office to not get involved in pro se cases in General District Court. The only time the prosecutor will get involved in a pro se traffic case is in Circuit Court for misdemeanor or traffic appeals. We will just have to agree to disagree.

To the original poster, just bring your new copy of the registration card with you to court and it very well may be dismissed as complied with law. If you attempt to approach the Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney assigned to your courtroom about this prior to court you will be instructed to wait until your name is called during the docket.

They are there in the beginning before court starts, then sit the pro se cases out. They only get involved in misdeameanor traffic, appealed cases, and in other extenuating circumstabces.
