There's two, we've had them for over 10 years. We're going to replace the current helis with two new ones at around $5 million each.

Our budget is fine. It's effective and forward thinking. We started a fund in 1995 to fund the purchase of the next two new helicopters.

I'm sick of you fucks complaining about how much helicopters cost and blah blah blah. MOVE. You're living in one of the best counties in the country. You don't like it, get the fuck out.

I was being serious $10 million is .149% of our annual budget. If you spread the cost of them over the life expectancy of the helo, its really a very small amount of money. If you compile that with the money they make busting high-school parties, they practically pay for themselves.

Starting a fund still takes money out of the budget, its not like it gets in there from thin air.

Oh and btw the county has apportioned money from each budget since 1995 to pay for these choppers... so it's not all at once. So like I said, it's smart forward thinking and planning.

I could save money for a trip to Vegas for 17 years, too. But in the end, if I blow it all at the tables, it would still be a very stupid decision.

Im not against having helicopters, Im against flying them for routine patrol or busting a high-school party.

Im glad we have'em. And the redundancy of two is nice.

But we should find ways to monitize the Helos when they aren't fighting crime.

Then we could combine training and maintanence flights with some survey work or ferrying VIPs.

They shouldnt be trophies and the cops shouldnt be looking for excuses to take them for a whirl, and busting well-of suburbanite parties is a stupid use of tax dollars, not to mention the risk to the pilot and equipment.

Drone may be cheaper. IR, 50 cal, cameras, chase/ hover over your mother

Right now they are only flying the one new one they have. The other one is for sale, $1.1 million. No sense putting more money into in it or crashing it.
