is there a reputable gun shop here that won't rip you off?
(Fairfax County or nearby Virginia counties)

or am I better off buying from an out-of-state dealer and
then have them ship it to a Virginia FFL dealer?

Thanks! :)

Dawson's or Shooters Paradise in Woodbridge. Both stores are within a mile from each other

oh fyi, most dealers charge around $50 for taking the delivery on the gun(per gun). It dont matter whether its out of state or you order it online, the cost is till the same. Complete ripoff if you ask me.

I only buy from the gun shows that come to the Dulles Expo center a few times a year. Check out http://www.thenationsgunshow.com/ for details. Looks like next one is in late July (you just missed on this last weekend I think).

As far as transfers, Virginia Arms out in Manassas charges $20 per gun. Their site is http://www.virginiaarms.com/va_contact.html#transfer

If you buy from a local dealer, at least you dont have to travel far if
you experience a problem. If you buy from a gun show dealer however,
you may have to drive (or ship) some distance if the dealer is based
out of say, Richmond. (or further) Just a thought.

I have purchased two handguns at Virginia Arms in Manassas and have been pleased with both their service and prices.

Blue Ridge Arsenal in Chantilly has a range (though not the best), but their prices are higher and at least in the five or so times I have been there the staff seemed pompous and unapproachable, almost downright bitchy. It has been over a year since I have been there so maybe the staff has changed over

Virginia Arms as others have stated gets the highest review for this area and they have an FFL so they can also handle transfers. They have the best selection I have seen in this area. For a range, ever since shooters paradise burned down I have been using the NRA range which is very nice.

Also if you're looking for a used gun, I highly recommend being able to physically hold it in your hand and inspect it. That is another benefit of buying locally or from a gun show. If you're buying online or long distance, you're subject to whatever return/exchange/repair policy the seller has IF they even have one. And dont forget shipping costs. My advice if you're buying from someone in another state is (if it is a new-in-box gun) go to a local dealer and see if they have that same model if you are not familiar with it. That way you can see how it fits your hand and if you like the weight and feel of it.

I was there three weeks ago. Still overpriced and still staffed by tools.

Oh wow, I guess it's been a long time since I have been there. I drove by their store on the 14th and saw the gate down. I called them and an answering machine stated that they were closed due to inventory count for that day. I ended up going to Dawsons up the street. That sucks I liked that store. I wonder if they will reopen

you have got to be kidding! Its a play on the recent Obama "quote". This is hysterical..you allow all sorts of violent references and profanity on here but a reference to the news in the headlines gets me reported. Well...forget it...this is censorship..and you'll have to boot me off...and which time I'll get the ACLU to sue you.

According to Shooter's Paradise website, they're not going to be back at that shopping center. Sucks, it was so convenient for me, and Gilbert's doesn't allow rifles and screw their memberships. I gotta drive all the way across the county to the NRA nowadays. I've bought several firearms over the internet with no problems, though maybe I'm just lucky. Next on the shopping list, a DPMS Panther 308.

Yes because censoring comments a moderator doesn't like on a private website infringes on your civil rights. But wait you were quoting/joking this time too right? Or is that your defense for saying anything stupid you want and then pass it off as not your own?

Vince you're being F'd with. A user with a screen name of "moderator", LOL.

I'll grant you you're original joke was funny. I may be dumb, but I do get one every once in a while.

Virginia Arms is an excellent gun store. The staff is very helpful and knowledgeable . They maintain a very large stock of guns (handguns and shotguns in particular) and accessories. Blue Ridge is a joke, 9 times out of 10 only 20% of their display cases are filled with guns, and their staff are seemingly inexperienced and rude. When I go to a shooting range I go to shoot, not get into a 'who has a better gun' competition with the uneducated staff. Gilbert's is a shady dump, we'll leave it at that. If you can deal with the rules of the NRA it's a great place to shoot; otherwise, BRA is fine - I just would not recommend buying a pistol from them.
