Welcome to Fairfax Underground, a project site designed to improve communication among residents of Fairfax County, VA. Feel free to post anything Northern Virginia residents would find interesting.
Where is a good place to sell a car without going to the dealer. I have tried craigslist but getting ridiculous offers. The car is worth $3000. My personal favorite was an offer for $450 , made in payments over 6 months and I had to hold the car for him/her for a month. Ya. The post auto classifieds seem to be shrinking by the day. Any other popular place?
I think that both cars.com (http://www.cars.com) and Auto Trader (http://www.autotrader.com) are good sites. They are free and I have sold several cars through them with decent results. I only experienced this type of silly lowball offer once, but feel that I have gotten with 10% of what I was asking.
Since you are selling a Saab, you might want to try SaabNet (http://www.saabnet.com). They may charge a small fee to post your classified, but it is a Saab enthusiast site which should get you better, more interested buyers. Locally, Auto Scandia in Herndon is Swedish specialty shop and you can post an ad on their bulletin board. Last, I would try S&S Auto in Warrenton (http://sandsautosales.com/index.cfm). Rick Stanley buys and sells used Saabs - you may not get exactly what you are looking for, but his deals always seem pretty fair.
I'm surprised to hear you are having trouble with Craigslist. I sold my car there really easily. I put the ad up and had several interested people within hours. First one who came to look at it gave me full price. I'd give it another shot.
I'm surprised the seller expects to get $3K for an old 900. Ugly, unreliable, expensive to repar car with questionable mechanics. Who, besides few fanatics, would want it? Thus the $450 offers...

Questionable mechanics? Really? saab not to mention this particular model was the only one to break 1000000 miles on the original motor with basic maintenance. I have put it up before for $1500 and got plenty of offers but I put some work in it so therefore asking $2000.
the cool thing is that the saab gave him a brand new car for free. The company said they will give a brand new saab who buys one new and puts 1,000,000 miles on it, As long as you are the only and original owner.
