you cant force anyone to learn. if someone doesnt want to learn, they wont learn and they will do horrible on tests. i think fcps has dont a decent job has been done in offering every child a decent education. social factors do influence whether or not children want to learn but there isnt much the fcps can do.

please tell me, what you expect fcps to do about failing students and dropouts because the blame game is such bullshit.

I attended the Women In Sports Awards at the Govt Center last night. It was really well done-it honored the female athletes/coaches in our school system. The girls all got a tshirt and a certificate. It was very nice.

Ok, now here is my problem with the event. There were 4 catagories for recognition; woman coach of the year, sports journalist of the year (there were 2 males nominated), sports spirit/motivator award, and athlete of the year. Each of the 25 high schools nominated someone in each catagory-for a total of 100 nominees. Out of the 100, I would estimate there were 5 NON-White faces. 5 out of 100? Is this reflective of our school district? Is this reflective of our female athletes?

Even the presenters were all White-and there was 6 of them!!! Why doesn't this school system make more of an effort to provide a more welcoming, inclusive environment for these kids? I honestly don't get why they are not thinking along these lines when they have an event like this. It is so unfair and insulting to these students and parents.

So people should be picked for awards based on their race?

What percentage of Black, White, Hispanic, Asian awards works for you?

What is insulting is you suggesting awards should be based on race. Awards are earned.

It is not fair to say that FCPS is biased towards only Blacks and Hispanics. I am from Pakistan and my son was discriminated by a few FCPS teachers on a regular basis while he was only 11 years old. He had no idea about racism but he used to get a taste of this every day of his school. We had to finally change his school mid-year to protect him from his own teachers. He was told by his teachers that he is not good enough to do even regular MATH.He was told that he is a lier when he was only 11 Years old. So, you can see that some of the FCPS teachers are really cruel and they know very well that they are protected by some people in power.

However, after the school change, my son started getting "A" grade in advanced MATH and then went on to do Algebra I in 7th Grade and then Geometry in 8th Grade. He was advised by Hopkins to take the SAT exam in 8th Grade. He just got his SAT score and his MATH score was 690. This is certainly not bad for a 14 Years old kid but according to some of his former FCPS teachers, he should not be even doing regular MATH.

I honestly believe that most of the White people (99.99% people) are very honest and good fearing people. At times, they are even most kind people in this universe. However,there are a few bad apples who control our FCPS organization who may not be real honest. There is a possibility that they do not like people of color to progress. But, I am very hopeful that our country is changing very fast and these people will be out of power very soon. It is also time that people of color must start running for public offices so that we can make some real changes rather than continue to only complain in forum like this one.

Let us all make this wonderful country even better.

The school board and the FCPS staff have caused IMMEASURABLE harm to students/parents in Fairfax County. I hope citizen will not forget in three years.

Since most blacks and hispanics have less money then white people, our SB does not give a shit about them.

Conclusion

Fairfax County IB schools underperform
AP schools.

AP schools outrank IB schools on the Challenge
Index.

AP students receive more college
credit than IB students for their efforts.

AP schools also perform better on State
Standards of Learning tests (see the
FairfaxCAPS report from April 2008).

Finally, the IB program is offered in
FCPS schools with significantly greater
socio-economic challenges.

This even though the IB diploma program serves a
select few students and redirects
resources away from the majority of
students greatly needing programs and
support.

The staff report on student behavior recently drew criticism from the chairman of the Minority Student Achievement Oversight Committee.

In a letter to School Board Chairman Daniel G. Storck (Mount Vernon) last month, Ralph Cooper wrote that the report and some recent school system budget decisions had "damaged any credibility [the School Board] may have had in improving minority student achievement."

The letter, attached to the committee's annual report, urged the board to hire a consultant to roll out its "essential life skills" goals and to work with the advisory committee and other groups.

"We would like to be part of the team," Cooper said in an interview.


The committee's report included suggestions for how the school system can reach out to minority parents to encourage them to be effective advocates for their children's education.

After hearing from nearly 100 people at three meetings, the committee concluded that too often minority parents feel "a sense of alienation" in their children's public schools. Many could not name their school board representatives or articulate their functions, the report said


Overall, Cooper said, "progress is too slow."

This SB needs to fix NCLB, the morality report, so that they are not racist and bias against blacks/hispanics
