The race to be Virginia’s next governor is dead-even with Republican Jerry Kilgore and Democrat Tim Kaine both polling 45 percent of the statewide vote. Two weeks ago Kilgore had a three-point advantage over Kaine. In August, Kilgore held a six-point lead. Kilgore’s honesty and integrity may seem to be allowing the desperate Kaine to steal votes, but in the end, Virginians will show their traditional moral values when we elect Kilgore as governor.

Kilgore, a first-generation college student, understands how important a higher education is to succeed in the global economy. Virginia is fortunate to have excellent colleges and universities, but we must work to maintain and improve the quality of our higher education. Kilgore is running not just for Virginia citizens, but for Virginia families as well.

Kilgore values education and the Virginia way of life. He is desperately fi ghting the liberal democrats in Richmond to use lottery money for youth education. By using the lottery money for education (as it was intended), Kilgore won’t have to raise taxes.

His opponent, Kaine, the former mayor of Richmond, had the second worst scores in student performance and a high drop out rate. Virginia’s teachers are the key to the success of students and the teachers are working harder than ever to teach our children, enforcing some of the toughest academic standards in the nation.

Kilgore, as governor, will make sure we create more jobs in Virginia so all of our citizens have an equal opportunity to work and make a decent living for their families. Kilgore will also be an active recruiter so that we expand existing Virginia businesses, and encourage national and international businesses to move their operations to the Commonwealth.

Families across Virginia have resorted to planning their lives around traffi c, spending several hours a week in congested traffi c, forcing them to miss soccer games, doctors appointments and PTA meetings. One of the keys to preserve existing businesses and promote business expansion in the Commonwealth is to improve our transportation system. Kilgore is committed to do so. His plan is to widen Rt. 66 inside the beltway, using extra state dollars to get it done quickly.

When it comes to Kaine and taxes, wow! Kaine says he cut taxes for the homeowners of Richmond, but he didn’t. In the end, they just went up. He even supports higher gas prices even though the gas tax in Virginia is one of the highest in the nation. He says he supports the sanctity of life, but has a long history of supporting abortions. Kaine also spent years as a liberal activist, but on the radio he leads you into believing he is conservative. The man prides himself on being a sensible centrist, but acts as a drastic liberal. Kaine also claims that he created thousands of new jobs; yeah right! The unemployment rate in Richmond went up to 47 percent.

As Kilgore’s ad says, “Have you ever ridden behind a car that has its right blinker going the whole time? He’s telling you he is turning right, then he makes a hard left turn. Crash!’ That’s what its like being around Kaine. He may signal right, but the only direction he’s ever turned ... is left.

That still doesn't change the fact that he's a massive douchebag. I saw the debate. He's a stammering idiot. I'm surprised he made it through law school.

How does Kilgore propose giving local communities more control and then widen 66? Didn't the State of Virginia guarantee the communities along 66 within the beltway that it would never widen 66?

The only way Kilgore could keep a promise to widen 66 is if it could happen within the next four years, which is not feasible. Even if he started today, it would be a decade before it could actually be finished. The claim that he will do it immediately is utter bullshit.

Yeah, those kind of projects don't happen overnight. I used to work for VDOT and while I worked there they started a fairly small bridge restoration that was designed about 5 years ahead of the start and isn't planned to be finished til 2010. If Kilgore seriously claims to widen 66 immediately, he's an idiot.

Kilgore is a hick and a republican. This state has made progress since Warner was elected and I'd like to see that continue.

I'm going to vote for Deeds just because he seems to be bashing McDonnell over the head with every piece of dirt he can dig up. You gotta love a guy who will basically imply his opponent condones child molestation because a freak who used to work on his campaign got busted for kiddy porn. Than last night I caught part of an ad that implied McDonnell really approves of abortion. That Deeds cracks me up.

This is actually not possible to do within 4 years if he is elected. First off, 66 can only be widened by a vote from the people in Arlington County, and it has happened and failed. Also, for 66 to be widened a massive amount of homes and also business will need to be condemd or bought out due to set back requirements to the highway. Also you will have to deal with the owners, and there are alot. And don't forget the building that spans 66 in Arlington would need to be redone. If 66 is widened by just one lane in each direction you will need about anoth 15-20 feet of Right of Way on each side for about 30-40 feet minumum and no you can not just add a lane on teh shoulder, it does not work that way. Another major issue would be the runoff, doing civil work in this area it is a major problem, and this project would create 14+ acres of new pavement, (5 miles of roadway * 12 feet of lane * 2 lanes * some other things...= alot of runoff that has no where to go.) Also not to mention which was stated before it takes a long time for a road project to get to the construction phase alone. So like all polititions Kilgore is lying and making promises he can not keep, like Bush, Clinton, and all the other!

...and the law can be changed so Arlingtonians can go fuck themselves.

the best idea would be to scrap 66 inside the beltway and dig tunnels from some point where you can start wider, then dig UNDER Arlington and have as many lanes as possible.

I agree that a law can be changed, but that still makes this impossible to do with in teh next 4 years, which is the promise if I read correctly.

Just as a side note-if this does come up to a vote by the people that live in Arlington, many of the old folks that live there do not want it to be widened, and the old folks always vote, so unless we kill them 66 will not be widned for what appears to be a long time.

Also the Tunnel idea would kick-ass just let's do it better then the Boston Big dig.

B/c I really didn't want to work today, I did research on this. There has been talk about widening 66 for a long time some ideas are putting in a new lane with out buying more right of way. However problems with the sound barriers along inbound 66 became a problem near Falls Church and also outbound 66 in Arlington today. Also a survey was taken and 66% of people in Arlington are for the widening but goes back to teh other point how many of them really vote.

Immenent Domain also is a choice but with this you can not just take a property you must offer a fair market value, which in these days and times woudl be alot of money in NOVA land. 500,000 for a fucking townhouse....my shiny metal dafadill ass.

My understanding is the State of Virginia made a binding contract with Arlington County not to widen 66. Last time I heard, legal contracts were still binding in this country. Even if the contract is thrown out in a court of law, I would imagine decades of litigation and some sort of huge restitution to the residents of Arlington would be called for. So, no, Arlingtons really can't "go fuck themselves." But Virginian taxpayers can if they go this route.

Does the Big Dig ring a bell? That fiasco has been in the works for 20+ years and is still not 100% done. Building tunnels under Arlington into DC would be a much larger, much more expensive and disruptive project. You, sir, are stupid.

heh... tunnels... i recall hearing about there was a carbeque somewhere in the chunnel and basically they couldnt get to it. due to the fact that it was completely sealed in, there was nowhere for all the heat to go so it really flamed up and tons of cars other bit the dust and like... melted. yes, it got so hot the cars melted. they had to eventually let it burn out. i think they have some sort of fire suppression system now. it's always humorous hearing about things being learned the hard way. oh... but here's an idea... if you go to georgetown you can see the highway on top of highways. why not do that? make the top half for highspeed and the lower for entering and exiting. it would atleast increase the capacity. of coarse, no 18-wheelers on top.

Why not contruct a 2nd level over 66 and create a 2-level 16-lane highway to and from DC!!!! San Francisco has something like this, or at least it had before theyr 1989 quake, and it's not terribly ugly. We could put "HOT lanes" on the top level so people won't rush into this thing. We would double the lanes without having to kick people out of their homes through Eminent Domain. It would look a little odd, but who cares! Who's with me???

RESton Peace is right. All Republicans who buy into the RNC machine deserve to lose. I'm just disappointed guys like McCain,Hagel and Grassly sold their souls to the devil for four years. Who is Kilgore?

He was some politician from a few years ago.

He was director of Public Safety from 94 - 98 and Attorney General from 01 - 05. In that 2001 election he crushed his democrat opponent 60% to 40%.

Jerry Kilgore is also McDonnell's attorney for the corruption investigation.

When 66 was built thru our county,we were promised it would never be widened. Thank Allah we have sense in Richmond and it will never be widened. We should put tolls on 66 to encourage car pooling. Or we can encourage metro rail by building stations in Tysons w/o parking lots.

Time for a couple HOAs in Falls Church and Arlington to stop holding the rest of the region hostage. What other major city has only four lanes in/out of it. Get a grip. That thing should be at least six if not eight by now.

It's a federal matter. Read the history.

Yeah let's open and widen 66 all the way down to that first stoplight on Constitution. Smart idea. There's no widening 66 unless there's a whole other freeway. Can you say Three Sisters Bridge. It's fucked. No way it's happening.

That's not the point. All that traffic has no place to go once it hits the city. Double deck it toll it and it's still gridlock once it gets to two lane on Constitution. The original plan called for a freeway along the Georgetown waterfront then up thru the city cutting it on half. Ugly like Atlanta.

Are you saying that the traffic gridlock would result in the the road becoming known as "Constipation"?

Actually a lot of 66 traffic goes in to Rosslyn and Arlington, Crystal City, etc. Moreover, a few careful changes/improvements to the DC end could allow traffic to flow onto other roads at the end of the bridge.

Double-decking is the obvious solution - Go for it!
