can Starbuck kick out people who bring in McDonald's coffee?

This Starbuck is right next door to the McDonald's.(well... there's actually
a furniture store between the two) It's located in the north part of this
county. I won't say which, because I don't want to get the employees in
trouble or anything...

Anyway...

This morning, I was sitting in this Starbuck with a couple of my co-workers.
We hang out there before work. An elderly couple came in... when I say
elderly, I mean they are probably 70 to 90 years old. The woman had a
McDonald's coffee in her hand. She sat down while her husband went to order
his coffee from the Starbucks employee. Another employeed spotted the
McDonald coffee and told the woman she couldn't drink it there. She refused,
but the employee kept telling her blah blah blah...

At this point, the husband walked back with his coffee and a bunch of
sugary stuff... :) He sat down and started to hear what the fuss was all
about. Now the employee became slight angry. He asked both of them to leave
the store.

My co-workers and I were obviously on the side of the old couple. We basically
told the Starbuck guy to f**k off, mostly because he was really rude. There
were no other customers.

In the end, we and the old couple took our Starbucks coffees and munchies and
went next door to McDonald's. The McDonald's employees were cool with that.

oh well...

The Starbucks employee hates you and wants you gone as soon as you have your $10 vente triple mocha frapawhatsitsnamed. Did you guys tip for your expensive coffee? Maybe he just made a bunch of drinks and nobody showed any love. In that case I'd be pissed too. Its morning for everybody...even the crunchy hipster working at Starbucks...low notch middle man between you and your drug of choice.

can Starbuck kick out people who bring in McDonald's coffee?

I guess technically they can refuse service to anyone. However, considering the old guy probably bought $10+ worth of stuff from Starbucks, I imagine it isn't store policy as much as some buy making $7.50 an hour wanting to feel like "The Man" for a few minutes. The Starbuck's worker is an ass. If you go to that Starbucks often, I would raise the issue with the manager. He/she needs to know that he/she has an offensive douchebag working there.

Yes, Starbuck's is a private company. Private companies have the right to not serve or ban any customer.

Next time put the Mc Donald's coffee in a Starbuck's cup before going in.

I forgot to add that the owner or manager does not need to give any reason. The owner just has to tell you to leave the establishment. If you refuse you are trespassing on private property.

I do not like Starbuck's coffee at all yet I meet my friends at the one in Fairfax City on Main St. and Old Lee Highway. I get a smoothie from the place next door and they get Starbucks. No one has ever said anything to me at all even though I sit there with them and drink my Smoothie. Since the place was not crowded and the people were really old, it seems the Starbucks worker was a little over bearing about his edict.

At my job ( a gym) I am not allowed to work out in any kind of gym apparrel with any gym name on it. Not Gold's or Jungle. In fact, the rules state that I can't even work out in clothing with MY place of employment name on it. I gues some businesses are sort of funny like that.

Well you have to admit that sitting in a Starbuck's drink McDonald's coffee is a bit of a slap in the face to Starbuck's.

There must be a huge mark up in coffee, because I would of bet that selling a cup coffee to people who sit around occupying space in restaurant would of been a great way to lose money.

I work at a Starbucks and that sounds pretty absurd, I guess each store can make their own policies like that if they want to kick someone out of the store but I know where I work we would never do anything like that. I was told by my manager that anyone can come in and just "hang out", they don't have to buy anything and they can stay as long as they want, up until we close if they wish.

to the OP, if I were you i'd go back there and report what you saw to the manager or to whoever is running the shift.

Thats what you get for drinking coffee instead of a good stiff shot
of the red-eye. It sounds like the employee is power crazy and is probably
bucking for assistant manager. I hope it didnt work. Imagine though,
the importance of the title that goes with the job. Sometimes, the desire
to rise to the top of the heap is seductive. MEGALOMANIA is a
disease. For crying out loud, dont let this employee get near the
Capitol!

I prefer stronger coffee, but my 75 year old mother does not. She thinks Starbucks is too strong. She is used to their old standby "Maxwell House."

Very often I will drive through McD's to get her a cup before heading to Starbucks for myself.

It is a possibility that the old couple just had different tastes in coffee.

Since the husband bought his coffee from the Starbucks, there is no reason why they should not have been allowed to enjoy their coffee together IN the Starbucks.

Sounds like the attendant at Starbucks is just an ass hole.

For the record, Starbucks is a publicly traded company (NASDAQ: SBUX) that's been on the decline for the past 2 years. Incidents like this certainly do not help restore investor confidence. -§

This story is one big joke. I work for this company and noone that works for starbucks would ever refuse service or kick someone out becuase they are drinking mcddonalds coffee. Furthermore the mcdonalds coffee cup is not clear, so noone knows what the hell the person is drinking, could be tea. Sounds like the "author" of this story has a personal vendetta against a company (starbucks). Such a shame/joke. I challenge everyone in america to bring a mcdonalds cup into starbucks. You will then see that this story is big joke. You will not get kicked out. jeeezzz

I needed to test this first-hand...

This morning before work I went to McDonalds at the Collonade shopping center (in Centreville). As many know, there is a McDonalds and a Starbucks located just doors down from eachother. I went into the McDonalds and got a cup of coffee. I proceeded directly, next door, to the starbucks. Immediately upon entering, I set my McDonalds Coffee cup down on an empty table, along with my laptop bag. I went to the counter, and ordered a muffin. I took the muffin over to the table that I had reserved.

Lo and behold, within approximately 5 minutes, I was approached by the manager (or who I presumed to be the manager) and he tapped me on the shoulder.

"Hi, Sir. I see you've got yourself some coffee there? It's policy to not allow outside beverages in this location. If you could finish that up as soon as possible, that would be great!"

then he left...

I finished my coffee, and muffin, and left. I felt no real pressure to leave the Starbucks, but, I was approached by the manager, as stated. He was friendly, and polite, and didn't necessarily demand that I do anything.

So it appears there is a bit of a "gray area" concerning this issue...

LMAO! This thread has now become the "McDonald's coffee at Starbuck's movement!"

Somebody should try the reverse, take a Starbuck's coffee into Mc Donald's and order some food.

Ever tried to take candy/sodas into a theater? How about beer into a bar?

Starbucks is a coffee shop. To test this accurately vs McDonnalds, you would need to bring some burgers into McDonnalds and buy a coke. So first one who posts video of them going into McDonnalds with some 5 Guys burgers and orders a coke and sits down and eats it without being bothered, wins.

Being a cheap fuck why not just dig a Starbucks cup out of the trash and then pour McDs coffee into it.
Might as well go to the dry cleaners and toss in your clothes, after all they were running the machine anyway.

Thanks to the McDonalds management's decision to have my kids eat at the Herndon McDonalds, I may have to send them to Starbucks instead. But why should I have to pay extra to get my kids the quality of food that they deserve? I want my kids to eat at a TOP PERFORMING RESTAURANT, but why should have to spend the ridiculous amounts of money required to have them eat at Starbucks?

This topic is now about McDonalds redistricting.

The Vienna Starbucks is much better than the Herndon Starbucks.
