I TRIED TO GET A TOUR IN SPA WORLD YESTERDAY.

THEY LOOKED AT ME AND SAID IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE.

Be For REAL, I am african american and I went there and had no problems, I think (HUNG SOON OAK) is lying or went there be a butt hole, the koreans are not dumb they know that they can get sued for discrimination. That place cost them 15 million buck and I don't think they want to be paying out any more cash for that. I suggest you try again and be for REAL next time. its a fun place.

I'm confused by all these posts - is this place legitimate or not? The WaPost article certainly made it seem like a family-oriented Korean sauna, where non-Koreans would be welcome. Some of the posters are now claiming that Koreans aren't welcome or that it's basically a massage parlour. Is there anyone who's been there and can actually speak to whether non-Asians who have traveled and grown to like finnish and/or russian non-sexual baths would feel comfortable?

I went there on April 26th. It is family-oriented Sauna. I look my nephew and he love that place as well. I am already planning to take my whole family there. I have seen all race at that place so I do not know what this Hung Soon Oak is taking about. If you are willing to pay $35 and $20 for kid, you can get in without any problem.

It is NOT dirty whore house. It is REAL family-friendly sauna.

after you enter, knock on the door to your left...
a Korean lady with glasses will take care of you
just let her know what extra services you're looking
for. she doesn't speak much English, so it's wise to
go with a Korean-speaking friend. depending on the
time of day, you'll see maybe 5 or 6.

I can't believe all these ridiculous comments!!! Spa World does not discriminate against anyone. It doesn't matter if you are yellow, white, brown, black, red or blue~ As long as you pay, doesn't matter what color you are. It's a great place to relax with friends, family or significant other and is not some dirty, "happy-ending" massage parlour.

If you're going there to meet "hot girls", good luck. Through all the steaming, sweating and soaking in the pools, they won't have any of their faces painted on. Although, you may see the all-natural beauty with the glowing, pink face sipping on shik-hae by the juice bar~ (Good luck!)

Also, I highly doubt individuals were not granted a tour of the place. If you mention interest in membership, I'm sure they will have no problem showing you around, given there are enough employees to do so at the time.

if you live in Fairfax County long enough, you'll know when and where to order Koreans(and Asian), it's as easy as ordering a pizza, but cost at least 10 times as much.

Centerville isn't called "Little Korea" for no reason.

They take customers inside Spa World, pretending to be couples. Someone should

But we enjoy experiencing different cultures and don't feel the need to be arrogant americans. I have lived oversees and have seen that Asian and Europeans know how to build quiet restful spas.

Regardless of your race, spaworld welcomes everyone. However, it is what it is. If you are not accustomed to Korean culture, then you may be in for shock. It is various sauna rooms made of different types of rocks. However, you do have a public bath area where you are going on naked. There are no private showers. so, if you are not used to that, then you may feel uncomfortable. Koreans, or any other foreigners love when Americans are making the effort to learn their culture. However, please do respect the culture. Just because it is different from what you are used to, don't try to force American culture on them. Be open minded. Try it, and if you don't like it, don't go again.

This is ridiculous. I am a plain white person (female), I tried Spa World this weekend for the first time and I loved it. Very friendly and very nice. I went there with a friend, also white and not speaking Korean. Thanks God that I didn't read all the comments above before I tried it.
There are a lot of families with kids there - which is kind of cute. And I did not notice any racism towards me.

spa world is great---i have had dozens of american friends go there and it is not racist---

and why should a place offer tours? so you can go peek at people's naked bodies?

Spa World is Amazing, not racist, and GREAT PLACE

also, there are no "happy endings" there the police have observed the place for years with no incident due to losers like the ones on this page who make fake comments....

let me ask you--dumb ass---why would a place that cost about $10 million to make take a risk and offer happy endings? seriously----

Am white American; had no problem getting in; didn't see an "attitude" on part of the mangement, but disagree little with the "good value" bit. Cost $35 just to use the facilities. Won't be going on a regualar basis just to use hot tub and sauna. I have shower and can shampoo and brush my teeth t home.

What's with all the guys laying around naked on the lounge chairs though? Seems a little "gay" to me.

honestly Spaworld is not racist at all. I have taken many of my caucasian, black, and hispanic friends in with me and we have enjoyed the place without any discrimination or dirty stares. This is not a place just for koreans- a lot of blacks and europeans like to stay at this place. Think of it as the korean version of a bath house in ancient greece. anyway, i think it's a better deal to pay the $35 dollars for a 24 hour pass and let the massage pool take care of my knots rather than pay $70+ for a 1 hr massage at some other spa.

Went to Spaworld a week or so ago and loved it. By the way, I am an older white guy, very average. The people at the desk couldn't have been nicer, also in the locker room when I had a question they were very helpful, even those who didn't speak a lot of English. I got a body scrub and that was an interesting experience, I mean the guy scrubbed every single square inch of my body, including genitals, and beleive me that was definately not an erotic experience. I also got a 30 minute massage from a female massage therapist and there was no hint whatsoever of anything other than a legit massage, which was outstanding by itself. While I was there, there were lots of non-Asisans and nobody seemed to care one way or another. There were other non-English speaking whites as well, so as an earlier poster indicated obviously Europeans go there and enjoy it.

Seriously, I was diagnosed with a fungal skin infection after going to Spa World. No proof it was from there, but I don't believe in coincidences either.

The water pool at SpaWorld does not smell like chlorine at all. I wonder what they use to disinfect the water and the uniform they make you wear.

The red clay ball room was my favorite, but I wonder how often they replace those clay balls that absorb all the sweat from everyone?

They should have an inspection with things being swabbed and cultured to be safe.

Seriously? If Spa World didn't want non-Koreans to go there, why would they have done a $15 Groupon offer back in May that went out to all 100,000 or so Groupon subscribers in the DC area, surely 99 percent of whom are not Korean? I was there last night and it was probably 50% Asian, 30% white non-Hispanic, 10% white Hispanic, and 10% African-American. Plenty of families were there with their children.

YES THEY ARE RACIST. I was a regualr customer for 2yrs and stopped going recently. I am African American. They have an appt system for massages. They didnt honor our appt and took a white woman last minute for an appt. In addition, they told us that since it was the last appt we would have to split a 60min massage. Therfore, 30 mins each. The woman clearly stated she didnt have an appt and they took her before us, we had been waiting for 1.5.

Not the only incident, there. And another African American woman was upset about an incident a previous month. A lot of sutle things happen there.

That's interesting. I'm not surprised. I am a white woman. My husband and I spent 3 weeks in Japan a few years back (business for my husband) and we sensed a lot of racism. We went out to a more rural resort area for several days of our trip and I caught people mimicking us and laughing at us (actually it was more surreal than hurtful for me). Another thing that really gave us a big clue was right after we got off the plane at Narita (Tokyo). We were trying to make a phone call and couldn't figure out the phone card system. An African American (he must have been the only one in the entire airport---not kidding) spotted us and went out of his way to help us. He was incredible---I think he was so happy to see some other Americans---no matter what color. It said a lot. (He was the only African American we saw the entire 3 weeks there). We might be hard on ourselves as Americans, but we have a lot more brotherhood than we think.

I'm not saying that all Asians are racist. The truth is that they are accustomed to very homogenous societies and I don't think they deal well with differences (and this is not just differences in race). This is what we Americans have as a strength---the ability to deal with many types of people and to see the good in others. We continue to make this country a better place when we treat each other the way we would like to be treated. God Bless America.

I lived in Korea and they are racist. They re also greddy and think they are better than others. Yes they hate Japan because of what Japan did to them in the 1800 and in later wars. Koreans are the least contributing immigrant group to American society. The have bankS who only cater to Koreans because of the system they use called ''Key money". All they care is about money.
Their women are also gold diggers and have been brought up that way. They need to marry up, so they can have more money.

What's the disgrace? In Korean you have girly bars and prostitution is illegal and veryone goes to these bars and nothing happens. Women get treated like shit and Men use them. I have a lot of Korean friends and they marriages are not happy, becaus ethe men rather go fuck a hour than his wife.

My wife just took advantage of a $1 pass she got from the asian market nearby for buying something like fifty bucks of groceries; the pass is for the basic $35 Spa World in Centreville entry fee - she was there for hours and came back gushing about it, though she was way embarrassed initially since the place isn't just a nude spa (mainly), but a MANDATORY nude spa - she had never (maybe NEVER) been nude in front of strangers before.

Though I didn't go there (nor will - no interest in such things - the place is segregated by sex as far as the spa areas are concerned), from what she gushed about it sounded VERY similar to a Japanese hot spring spa I went to somewhere in Japan (northern Japan? Don't know!) - remove clothes, grab 1 foot square "towel", take a quickie "shower", go into area with numerous different-temperature pools, soak (or cook, depending on temp), then relax in a dry heat or steam room. I understand there IS an area or two at Spa World where you wear a SW uniform of some type - maybe an exercise area (though Spa World is a =spa= mainly, not a fitness center). My Japanese experience was with a group of asian relatives-in-law so I wasn't there "by myself"; Spa World would be as a loner - no thanks. (in Japan they're a little more laid back about nudity in such places - I initially retrieved my towel from two middle-aged women who were chatting with each other at the men's towel room counter - they were totally oblivious to the dozen or so naked men walking around).

Anyway, the pools apparently have some pretty vigorous pulsing water jets that massage as well as soothe. If you want to spring for it, they of course offer actual massages of different types - one cost I remember was $100 for an hour massage (that apparently includes tip).

For her one buck cost, the value received was dynamite.

I =think= it was Hannora (sp?) right next to Spa World but actually don't know - that or Grand Mart down route 29, probably.

Spouse says it was from Lotte (over on Route 50/Centreville Road).

Not as good as they claimed to be, Spaworld is full of kids running and screaming, not such a relaxing place.

I saw a Craigslist ad a while back from a couple that had just bought tickets on Groupons, had never been and was asking for some insight from people who had already been. I sent them an email asking them if you get a chance can you let me know what info you receive back from the ad you posted.
Here's the reply I got, hope it helps:
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

My bf and I were two of those 2,000 people. We also have never been there before. I did find a really good review of what you do when going there.

Here is the review:

Despite the number of people, we had a very nice time. While we drilled ourselves in the procedure, the women at the front desk were particularly nice and patient, especially given they had so many first-timers that day. In case you missed how it works, here's my take, with commentary:

1. Sign in and get your "magic key". Find the matching locker in the lobby and deposit your shoes. Keep the jumpsuit, you'll need it!
2. Walk down the hall to the gender-specific locker room. Find the locker that corresponds to your key, strip down (that's right, buck nekkid), grab a towel, and head out into the Bade Pool area. (Note: To the tool who thought he was clever by wearing his swim trunks: Lame, dude, lame. Grow a pair and go Full Monty like everyone else.)
3. In the Bade Pool, start in the main pool. Try out the waterfall showers, then work your way around to the jet stations to get various body parts worked on. Avoid the ones with the floor jets. That didn't feel especially good. (Note: to the dad who thought it was cool to bring your kid who thought the pool was for underwater swimming: lame, dude. Leave the kid home next time.)
4. Once you're jetted out, try out the various jacuzzi pools (at different temperatures) and the saunas. The dry sauna was over 200 degrees and nearly took my breath away.
5. After you get tired (or if you're meeting up with someone like I was), head back to the locker room, towel off, and put on the jump suit. Head out to the poltice rooms. This common area has mats that you can relax on between rooms. The rooms themselves are around the perimeter of the common area. We tried each room - 5 minutes at a time - then relaxed on the mats. All of the rooms are lined with different stones or gems and have a slightly different feel and temperature. Unfortunately, the Ice Room was out of commission. One bit of caution: the Red Clay Ball room is great, but is rather painful walking into it - feel free to grimace or you can pretend like you have feet of steel. We all know you're in pain.
6. I highly recommend grabbing something to eat in the restaurant - we split the fried wontons (vegetarian) and they were delicious!
7. After you're all steamed out, you can head back to the Bade Pool for a dip and shower before getting dressed and checking out. I chose to take a dip in the cold pool before leaving just to bring my body temperature back down so I could get dressed without sweating. Woo, that was refreshing!
8. Head back to the front desk, check out, THEN retrieve your shoes (the key stays in the shoe locker lock for the next person).

While Chris provided some great info above, has anyone else had a good experience at Spa World?
As I don't have a bf is it best to go alone? I'm not looking to pick someone up just enjoy a great spa experience.
While most comments above are from people with homophobia, can someone comment without a homophobic jab?

Hanaro sells $10 passes to Spa World for every $50 of groceries; it's also a much cleaner place than Grand Mart, and has about the same selection/prices as far as I can tell.

Spa World is pretty awesome in my opinion; the trick is NOT to go on weekends or weeknights; try going mid-week during the day, the place is almost empty which reduces the awkward-factor.

On weekends, especially Fridays & Saturday evenings, the crowds are pretty bad even at 10,11PM. Part of the Korean culture is to laze around and even sleep over at the spa, so they really pack the place on weekends and there are too many kids. To get your money's worth, I recommend Mon-Thu mornings, you'd have the place to yourself. Otherwise Friday before 4PM is not bad.

It really is a great place; I try to go 2-3 times per months and always come out feeling great. I think we're pretty lucky to have such a place in NoVA; there's only a couple of places like this in the country. Maybe the one good thing to come out of Centreville ;)

Korean owned businesses across the US laundered money out of this country like crazy...ever wonder how these owners of dry cleaners and massage parlors have multiple residences paid in cash....luxury cars paid in cash? It isn't because they work 16 hours days, 7 days a week.

I'm not sure who taught you to spell - "sFirstly" - but you should tackle spelling first.
2nd - the picture of Crazy Mr. Bean was not found in Craigslist's man2man section but instead was found with a plain old Google Image Search. Sorry to ruin your day but I'm married with 4 kids. Since it seems your mind loves to wander to the man2man section... have at it... ENJOY!

married with 4 kids doesn't mean you're not gay, and if you're hanging around spa world you may well be. The scene is noticable. Not cruising exactly, but more checking out the guys. How do you feel when you are naked knowing there are gays there oggling you? Makes me feel uncomfortable.

They just didn't want you going in there without paying, but I would suggest you pay and take a trip their my family and i go about 3 times a year and it's great. I love it there everything is clean and nice and the sauna's are great (although the cold sauna is always broken). The food is really good too actually and they have everything you need there. Best spa I've ever been to (I'm black by the way so I know all about segregation and things of that nature I find that people respect you more when you have knowledge of their culture already r if you just want to learn)

I wasn't sure about this place but was recently invited by a friend to go. I came away very impressed.

Incredibly clean and family orientated. The multiple spa rooms are co-ed (clothed) and the spa pool is segregated by sex. The pool required nudity but there was no gay activities going on - just all walks of life enjoying the various therapeutic spa areas of the pool.

No racism issues at all....I'm a white guy.

Yes, Koreans are racist! But so are Americans!

We all think that we're better than other people that are different!

Get real and admit it!

I'm white, mostly Irish, and a Korean customer and his wife were criticizing the way I wrote a '7' on my receipt, and they said "that's an Irish American 7". I didn't say anything because I wanted the check to clear.

The difference is they will act polite to you until they think they have and advantage in the situation, then they will treat you with contempt.

I, on the other hand, treat them with contempt from the beginning, because that's what they deserve. They gave up half of their country to communists and now they want to take over ours. Go back to Korea.

Keepin' it real!

I went yesterday and it was my fourth time there.

Get over the nudity as there is no way around it and everyone is fine wioth it.

The massage therapist was exceptional and had no problem giving me a,

"Happy Ending." Sorta!

As for the sex in there?

Plenty of it and I loved every moment.

I don't really see it as nudity. It is a bath sauna and steam room with some decent food if you are up for the adventure.
The Bade pool is excellent. Several different type jets to move to. From a foot massage to your back in several ways and your legs too. Arms if you move around right. The body scrub is interesting. I haven't tried a massage but am sure there is no happy ending. I started to do a massage but the ladies up there were kind of pushy. I would do a massage to relax.
Bobby is full of it.
