Looking to buy an older DirecTivo box
Date: April 14, 2005 04:26PM

I've got one of the new R10 models and unfortunatly at the moment it's unhackable without replacing the eeprom. I don't want to do that. So currently I'm looking for an older model. Ebay has them but obviously the people selling them know the R10's aren't easily hackable without a hardware mod, so they're expensive. Ideally I'm looking for the Hughes HDVR2. The best buy in Fair Lakes has one but they won't sell it because they don't have an access card to sell with it. I told the guy I have no problem paying the extra $20 to DTV to get a card, but SUPPOSEDLY it's against their policy to sell a DTV receiver without a card. So I can't get one that way. Unless of course someone here works at Best Buy and can find a way around the system and let me purchase it. What pisses me off is that they have it listed as an open box item, but I can't buy it. Anyways, if anyone is willing to sell, or knows where I can get a DirecTivo OTHER then the R10 (and i'm not paying the $1000 for the HiDef one) please post. Thanks!

Hmm...good idea. Never thought of that. I'll check it out. If I can't get anything there though, something tells me I'll wind up getting it from ebay

Yeah I was thinking of doing that as well, but I'm cheap. I'd have to put together a whole new system, get a remote for it, put in a capture card, etc. Then after I done with that, I can still only watch and record one channel at a time with satallite. With the directivo box I can watch a show and record a show, or watch a previously recorded show and record two shows. I already have one directivo unit, but it's the R10 and is unhackable without hardware mods. Kinda sucks, but still, it's a pretty sweet device.

my other "pvr" is my neighbor's wifi connection and torrent websites. I never miss a show, everything is available.

lol. I used to do that a lot as well. But my wife didn't like that it took an hour or two to be available to download. So we got the tivo. As long as she's happy.

oh yeah

my methods are never any good for anyone else, but I usually can't watch a show until the next night anyway so waiting is not really waiting for me, it's gonna happen no matter where I get the show
