Uninhabitable you say - well look at the much of East, and North Africa. Those are very uninhabitable places but somehow manage to have people living in it and in large numbers too. The problem as i see it is, is the population is spread around in a very large area. You don't have in much of the world. People need to live near large city centers and surrounding areas. Look at London, Tokyo, Shangai, Cairo, Hong Kong, Mexico City. These cities 10 million or more living in it, and even some more living around it. DC has something like half a million people living in it, what is that? It can support upto 5-7 million living in its city limits. I am saying if people in the U.S lived near big metropolis areas, it would mean a lot of benefits (which i can't remember on top of my head now). The U.S could support a population of up to 700 million people.
