Wow, so they're all bi-racial? Brilliant EEO and AA tactic. So if they're 97% black what makes up their other 3%? I guess it's a pretty diverse mix. I'm way more than 97% white so anything left over is too little for me to be considered "mixed". Fun fact, thanks for the good read.

It says in the article that the "other" employees consist of 1.5% Hispanic and 1.5% White.
The WMATA's explanation is that "Whites and Hispanics just don't apply for these jobs". Fully 3/4 of the article is about how high paying these jobs are, how the average salary is $60K+, with some employees making close to $200,000. Then in the same breath they ask is to believe that in this down economy, Whites and Hispanics just won't apply.
All around us people are losing their homes. People with advanced degrees and tons of work experience are waiting tables at Ruby Tuesdays just to make ends meet, but Whites and Hispanics just refuse to apply for a job making a 3 figure salary. What a joke.

Interesting information. Food for thought. WMATA, what was or is their affirmative action plan, or going above the EOE clause of hiring? Its open to interpretation of course, but that does not reflect the diversity of so many backgrounds in this area.

Just like DC, anything run by blacks will fail, due to corruption and incompetence. If millions were stolen from the government, the mayor bought the elections, council members are going to jail and being investigated, and police officers were arrested in droves in Fairfax / Loudoun, what do you think would happen ? Metro is not "97% black", DC is 97% black, and most of the blacks that do work there are from different countries. Some are from Jamacia, Ghana, Niggeria...( not off the streets of DC) Furthermore, the hispanics working there are from el salvador and most of these people are def. looking for a chance to survive just like anyone else. 97% is not a good measurmement to size Metro up with because they hire people from 8 or 9 different countries, male and female, including are own (very diverse mixed crew).

And just in the WP this weekend was a story about the massive pay some of the 97% of the niggers are getting by logging "overtime" hours. One guy was making over 200K in overtime and his base salary was something like 65K

Since it's been awhile since a driver has run over a pedestrian I notice many drivers are back to driving like bats out of hell. Encountered a Metro bus driver recently who decided to stop the bus in the middle of street with oncoming traffic one night, fortunately not much, on my way to Burke Target. He could have just pulled off on the shoulder. I couldn't help but want to take a look at the a-hole who was driving the bus. Confirmation of above remarks only I'd put it more delicately.

My mom works for WMATA and she's white. White people are treated differently by the management, which is mostly black. She's been told to work overtime and not report it and told that she makes less than her black co workers because they need the money more than her so they have dibs on promotions and pay raises. They also hire their family members over outside people.

WMATA generally sucks. I don't care what race the people are. I do care about how competent the people running it are.
I'm confident the only job requirement is the ability to mispronounce/mumble the names of the stops. For example, while Metro should say "Judiciary Square, doors are opening on the right," the announcement will often sound like "this is JudAIIICIARY square, mumble mumble."

John Hopkins has an almost all black desk staff. Whites hold upper positions but, no way a white with only high school or community college is getting a job there. I've noticed this in many places. Rich white Democrats want black and Hispanic slaves.

i was recently told by a fx co gov employee (who DOES NOT LIVE in fx co per say)
that WATMA contains 'M' Metropolitan to signify that financing is shared equally and fairly between DC MD NVA
the person was indignant that i would question the financing
way over budget, inspections paid out never done, %97 workers black or hispanic.
It's DC not VA is what i know. the only money from VA is being sucked out i'm sure.
