March 26, 2012 - 10:48 pm A Prince William County high school is on alert after a student may have been planning to bring a weapon to class Tuesday.

Parents at Potomac High School in Dumfries, Va., received a recorded call Monday night. It said that graffiti indicating the threat had been found on a bathroom stall.

Prince William County Police say additional officers will be on patrol in the area tomorrow, but school officials and detectives say there's no evidence that the graffiti is a credible threat.

DUMFRIES, Va. - Additional police officers will be on patrol after threatening graffiti was discovered in a bathroom at Potomac High School in Dumfries.

The graffiti found last week indicated a student was planning to bring a weapon to school on Tuesday, according to Prince William County spokesman Jonathan Perok.

Parents of students received a recorded call from police Monday saying officers will keep an extra eye out.

There's no evidence the threat is credible, Perok says, but county police are investigating further. Perok said additional officers would be present at the school Tuesday.

"There has been issues with graffiti at schools in general. Right now, we are not perceiving this as an immediate threat but will be taking extra precautions," Perok said.

Parents writing on InsideNoVA's Facebook page said they are worried, and some were considering keeping their students home Tuesday

Police and school officials are comfortable there is not a risk of anything happening Tuesday, according to Phil Cabitz, spokesman for Prince William County Public Schools.

School officials released no other details on the possible threat.
