Although a lot of negative comments have been made about Edison sports, Coach David Rashleigh and his staff are a model of excellence in their first year at Edison. Rasheligh has a young, ehthusiastic, outgoing staff. Coach Rashleigh reaches out to the community in the form of a softball clinic, introducing himself to community members and generating excitement and enthusiasm for his program. The early results are positive with Coach Rashleigh winning on the field, as well as in the hearts and minds of the community.
Conversely, Coach Lam of the baseball program and his staff are a prime example of what is wrong in sports. Lam's assistant coaches are his father, father-in-law and the father of a player, nepotism at its best. Coach Lam reaches out to the community in the form of private paid baseball instruction by Coach Lam for "selected" players, is very responsive to parents who donate large sums of money to the program, does no community outreach and again, only conducts clinics for select individuals who are willing to pay him $500.00 each. Lam's staff is the opposite of outgoing with with a JV coaches who do their own rendition of "girls gone wild" in the locker room. The buzz in the baseball community is that one player has been dismissed and four suspended for the "girls gone wild episode in the locker room." Also, the JV coach brings in two young assistants from Falls Church. One of the assistants brothers likes to film his girlfriend having sex while he watches. No surprise though as lam's assistant coach, father-in-law, raised a son who was arrested for rape. Enough of the nepotism, incompetence and sexual escapades. Coach Rashleigh can demonstrate excellence in a short period of time, what is lam's excuse? Fire Lam and bring back integrity to Edison Baseball.
