I use it and it works fine for me!
I love the fact that I can listen to my messages sent to my email on a .wav file.

wav is still heavily used today in the audio production world. It's uncompressed audio, you don't loose any of the quality.

granted for telephone, any sort of compression can be used and it would sound alright. But just about any audio program in the world will play a .wav file, not every single one will play a mp3.

You can also get wav files very small by using lower frequency rates, and a smaller bit depth.
