Unreasonable gas prices fall... still unreasonable.

so if you've been checkin' out http://virginiagasprices.com/index.aspx?s=Y&fuel=A&area=Alexandria&area=Annandale&area=Burke&area=Fairfax&area=Merrifield&area=Springfield&station=All%20Stations&tme_limit=60 or have been paying attention you already know that gas prices have fallen to about $2.50 a gallon in the area. i think this is great... but i still say it's way to high. im hoping that their is a pricewar starting. i could really go for some less-than-two-dollars gas. i just wish it would go back to the good old $1.25/gallon times.

Interesting that Exxon Mobile and Chevron posted record profits this past quarter. And we were led to believe it was the greedy Arabs forcing us to pay the higher prices.

The prices for the past year have been nothing short of price gouging. We didn't consume that much more oil this year than we did last year, but the price has gone up to the point where companies are making billions of dollars more per quarter.

There will never be a price war for oil because the same group controls the supply.

I love the (I think it was) Exxon exec comment. "We had a good year this year, but what about the years that aren't so good?" I guess those are only $45B profit per quarter or so. It would be nice if there was a movement nationwide to buy off-brand gasoline where possible.

Shit, I remember gas being at like 85 cents a gallon. I was in high school and I drove a Camry back then, I could fill up for like 8-9 bucks and not need another fill-up for 2 weeks. Much better than spending 45-60 to fill up my truck every 7-10 days or so now.

See...I don't get that. I'm not really into the weed thing, but didn't the name dime bag originally mean 10 dollars' worth? So if weed is more expensive now, wouldn't a dime bag be the same price, just contain less weed?

as of now the price is down to $2.35... closer to less unreasonable... but still unreasonable.

Interesting theory on "weed inflation" there, 757.

Speaking of price gouging, did you all see that article in the Centreview about the Shell station at 29 and Union Mill? The day after Katrina hit when all the gas prices went up to like $3.50 ... they jacked theirs up to $5.99 for a day, and then some regulatory folks made them bring it back to being only as unreasonable as everyone else.

Check out these price comparisons from Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, UK and US. (Scroll down for Oct. 2005) Maybe you'll feel a little better about $2.35 a gallon.

I hope that the increasing prices will help make hybrids more commonplace (and affordable) as well as increase funding for alternate energy research.

Theres a simple solution to this. I know some of you have had the email forwarded to you about how boycotting the biggest companys...shell, arco, exxon. I think it would work. dont buy gas from the bigger companies. this will force them to drop the prices. thats just my opinion. Let the attacks begin

All of those high prices are due to enormous taxes. We pay some of the lowest tax in the world for gasoline, but in Europe they tax the shit out of gas and tobacco especially in the EU. I think the Netherlands has around a 50% tax structure to pay for their cradle to grave social system. And as far as I know a dime bag still costs 10 bucks, at least in California.

hybrids are not very efficient as they try to fool you into believing. currently, the price to buy a new hybrid car will only even out after 10 years. 10 YEARS! well fuck that.

I agree with you the way you view the issue. I remember Jack London once said everything positive has a negative side; It is also interesting to see different viewpoints & learn useful things in the discussion.

Rock Bottom gas prices - thanks Obama! Just Barry doing good things to mask his plot to rule our country like a King. He wants to give the people their gas, stem inflation, recover from near depression, increase employment to fool you all into thinking he is a good leader - dont be fooled. Bush may have completely trashed the economy with tax cuts and out of control spending but at least we knew where he was born.

Haha this idiot. Well when gas went up to 3.50 and stayed there for 4 years, that payback dropped to 3 years for me. Best decision I ever made. I took that extra money from saving on gas and booked a vacation.
