Yep. I liked the guy until I heard that. I don’t doubt that other teams are guilty of the same thing but it’s just impossible to defend.

In other news the Skins have finally signed an offensive lineman..

James Lee – Tackle, 6-4, 305, 26 years old. I’m guessing depth for when Brown gets hurt again. They also signed a few guys to the secondary… Saftey Madieu Williams and Cornerback Leigh Torrence.

Its about fucking time!

I hope the guy can play because its only a matter of time before Brown goes down.

They cut Torrence mid-season in 2008, and now he's back? It's not like Torrence was traded or left through free agency. He was cut. Is Justin Tryon coming back, too?

I think we can add Jabar Gaffney to the list of former Skins after his Twitter meltdown today. Good Lord! At least RG3 will have no problem getting his jersey number now.

http://content.usatoday.com/communities/thehuddle/post/2012/04/jabar-gaffney-tweets-beef-with-wife-lito-sheppard/1

Redskins WR Jabar Gaffney revealed two beefs of his on Twitter in a series of expletive-laced tweets directed at his soon-to-be-ex wife and NFL free agent CB Lito Sheppard.

He says his disgust with the two is unrelated. We can provide an example of one of his tweets. The rest is for adult eyes only.

Tweeted Gaffney: "Feelings are for suckas Neva Eva again. Black heart dead soul!!! Get it how u live & I'm outta here"

Gaffney trended nationally for his rant. Sheppard does not appear to have an account with the website. The two were Eagles teammates in 2006 for several months before Gaffney was released prior to the regular season.

6-10 would technically be an improvement,,,

I think the Shannys are spending time with RGIII to get him ready to play week one,,,he's already familiar enough with the offense to diagram plays he learned when he wasa Broncos fan,,,

I think 9-7 would be the best case scenario,,,

7-9 likely,,,

6-10 , but competitive, very possible,,,

At the very least I expect to see glimmers of hope (and change),,,

see what I did there? I slipped in a political joke,,,cause it's the Washington team,,,and there's an election,,,,

Personally, I hope Gaffney stays with the team,,,he was a productive player and I don't think his"twitter meltdown" was as big a deal as its been made out to be,,,,slow newsday material

Redskins signed yet another safety today,,,Tanard Jackson (Tampa Bay)

,, who also happens to have 2 strikes in the NFL substance abuse program,,,

This is like last year when they signed WRs like crazy,,,

I wonder if they'll carry 7 safeties this season,,,

Why not? They had 7 or 8 wide receivers last year. Depth everywhere but on the O-Line.

Now Mr."feel my big scary power" is saying the NFL is considering changes to eliminate kickoffs altogether,,,

“We had a lot of discussions about whether we should eliminate it and if we did what we could do in its place,” he said. “There’s no consensus on it right now, but I could see the day in the future where that play could be taken out of the game.

Here's a clue: Mara's on the Competition Committee. He's a well-respected owner in the NFL. His team wins Super Bowls.

In short (so to speak), he's everything the Danny is not.

Redskins on HBO's Hard Knocks?

Normally I would think this is a terrible idea,,,but this season might be the exception to the rule,,,

The Redskins badly need to re-establish their image and excite the fan base for the start of the "New Era" in D.C.,,,

RGIII is definately a guy who could become the face of the franchise overnight if he was on the show,,,,he will be anyway, but this would make him a national figure and start to restore crediblity in the league and also re-create a fanbase outside the beltway,,,

There was a time when the Redskins were one of the most popular teams in the country,,,

I just don't see Shanahan going for it,,,

After seven weeks of waiting, we are less than 24 hours away from the draft and the start of a new chapter in Redskins history,,,

Shanahan gave a rare upbeat interview that actually had some interesting nuggets,,,

I know there are some who think Shanahan will not be successful in Washington, but I think his plans will ultimately re-shape the Redskins into an elite NFL franchise,,,

The other teams in the East have QBs that are nearing the end of their careers,,,while the Redskins have a guy that's 10 years younger and will be in his prime when the others retire or get cut,,,

I also believe RGIII will not only be the face of the franchise but will become one of the faces of the NFL and their marketing strategy in the very near future,,,

At least that's one good thing to come out of the pick,,

There were still bigger needs to be filled, but players aroud the league are getting cut as a result of their teams draft picks, so the Redskins may still get some free agents,,,

At least they drafted a couple of O-linemen,,,

If you don't have a line, might as well grab a few backup QBs.

Looks like @kirkcousins8 will be a solid game manager and a good value. A Trent Dilfer like replacement when RG3 goes down mid-season from a blindside massacre.

Good riddance to Beck, worst throwing motion since Mike Wise's fav Daniela Waurful.

I couldn't figure out why a team llike the skins, with little in the way of picks this year or for the next few for the RGIII trade, would waste another pick on a QB. But that makes sense if you're not going to fix your O-line.

The only thing I can make of the Cousins pick is that they hope to parlay him into a Cassel, Kolb-type trade piece later. The did pick up a couple of Guards in the later rounds. From everything I've heard, you can't expect to get good tackles outside of the first two rounds. Overall, I think they did a decent job with the draft. We'll see what they do with the pieces now.

I think this season your gonna see MIKE Shanahan work more with the offense and be very hands on with RGIII,,,,

It wouldn't surprise me if he calls alot of the offensive plays too,,,

Kyle will probably have a reduced role, I think Mike wants to link the end of his career to Griffin the way the beginning was linked to Elway,,,

Kyle and Cousins can share the clipboard,,,

Hightower has never been around long enough to be best "all around" anything. The guy is walking IR. Typical Shanny move to bring in an RB with a history of injuries and try to make him the featured back. They would do better developing Helu and Royster and forget the Hightower experiment.

He's never been on IR until last year. Let's not forget that he's only 25, signed a 1 year contract, and like I said, he can block.

Helu isn't an every down guy and Royster is equally one dimensional. They could work as a pair but then you have to worry about telegraphing your plays.

Who knows, maybe sixth round pick Alfred Morris will beat out Hightower for a spot. Wouldn't be the first time Shanahan has pulled a RB out of nowhere.

Shanahan didn't take the high road. He implied McNabb was lazy and out of shape. The high road would have been, "He wasn't the best fit for us, but I think he could serve another team well." That's the high road.

I'm not saying Shanny should have. I'm just saying he didn't despite the characterization that he did.

Gotcha. Really though, it's spilt milk at this point. Why is the media still talking about it? It was two years ago!

This comment from the link was pretty funny...

Shanahan’s all like: yeah he’s pretty good, I mean I wouldn’t sign him but someone else should, preferably in our division.

Reid’s all like: absolutely someone should sign him. He’s got a lot left in the tank. Someone in our division should definitely sign him.

McNabb’s all like: I should be in the hall of fame, someone should sign me, preferably in the NFL.

McNabb’s agent is like: PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD I WILL PAY SOMEONE TO SIGN MCNABB AND THROW IN A FREE T-SHIRT.

Lol.

They lost the appeal, but that doesn't mean they still don't have a recourse,,,

It just depends on how far they're willing to go,,

My biggest problem with the whole thing is that the penalty came THE DAY before free agency started, a deliberate attempt to sabotage the two teams being punished,,,

Also there were clearly a couple other teams that did the same thing and didn't get punished, because they don't play in the NFC East against Mara's Giants,,,

I would have to imagine a condition of being an NFL owner is signing on to binding arbitration. If that's the case, no, they don't have any recourse. No judge will bother hearing it because they have a binding legal contract to abide by certain conditions.

Looks like the NFLPA is now filing a suit against the NFL.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7963260/nfl-players-association-files-suit-vs-nfl-alleges-collusion-2010

The contentious relationship between the NFL and the NFL Players Association continued Wednesday when the union filed a federal lawsuit alleging that the league and its owners conspired in collusion to establish a "secret $123 million salary cap" in 2010, which under the previous labor agreement was designated as an uncapped year of spending.

> My biggest problem with the whole thing is that
> the penalty came THE DAY before free agency
> started, a deliberate attempt to sabotage the two
> teams being punished,,,

I have a problem with the whole thing. Was it an uncapped year or wasn’t it? Apparently it was, but it really wasn’t. Wait, what? The retroactive penalty is ridiculous as well.

> Also there were clearly a couple other teams that
> did the same thing and didn't get punished,
> because they don't play in the NFC East against

Yes, and what about the teams that used the uncapped year to do the opposite, and stay well under the cap floor? The Bucs, Bills, Cardinals, etc got a free pass for what is arguably worse than spending too much.

The full filing is up on ESPN now. NFL Network isn’t reporting it yet. What a surprise!

Quote

This proceeding arises from a conspiracy. Pursuant to the SSA, the NFL and the Owners explicitly agreed that the 2010 season would not be subject to a salary cap and that they would not engage in any prohibited collusion or circumvention of the SSA. The NFL and the Owners, however, engaged in a secret, recently-revealed collusive and circumventing agreement, whereby each of the 32 Clubs agreed to suppress player salaries – including by imposing a secret $123 million per-Club salary cap for that uncapped 2010 season.

Information about this conspiracy did not come to light until on or about March 12, 2012, when it was revealed in the media that four of the 32 Clubs (Washington Redskins, Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, and New Orleans Saints) did not fully abide by secret NFL rules to suppress player salaries in 2010. New York Giants Owner John Mara – who is Chair of the NFL Management Council Executive Committee (a.k.a., the CEC) – subsequently confirmed the existence of the conspiracy in his statements to the media regarding penalties imposed by the NFL on those four Clubs.

I have to think that right now, Roger Godell is not happy with John Mara. Essentially, this collusion lawsuit by the NFLPA is Mara's fault. Both by his actions and quotes out of his mouth. And this is real court now.. not some NFL umbrella pansy arbitrator court.

If nothing else this is a PR disaster for Godell and Mara. That makes me happy.

I love how these stupid sports commentators are buying the NFLPA's explanation that the timing of the suit had nothing to do with the arbitrator's decision. Of course it did. The decision is definitive proof a cap existed in a non-cap year.

I know some believe NFLPA doesn't have a case because they signed off on the waiver, but I don't think D-Smith is stupid. I think they have been waiting for this opening ever since they came to terms with the NFL on the CBA.

From Dan Graziano @ ESPN,,,

Dream scenario (9-7): This would mean Washington's first winning season since 2007, Joe Gibbs' final year as head coach. What has to happen to make it a reality? Well, lots, frankly. Robert Griffin III will need to be very good right away at taking care of the ball and limiting the kinds of mistakes it's reasonable to expect from rookie quarterbacks. Most important, the Redskins' offense must play very well around him. They'll need health from Tim Hightower and continued development from promising fellow running backs Roy Helu and Evan Royster. They'll need Pierre Garcon to play like the potential No. 1 wideout his free-agent price tag says they believe he can be. They'll need the offensive line to stay healthy and play well, with left tackle Trent Williams as its anchor. The Redskins' dream scenario sees Brian Orakpo and Ryan Kerrigan cementing their place among the league's top pass-rushing duos, DeAngelo Hall harnessing his ability and playing like a top corner, and something emerging from the muddle they take to training camp at safety. The defense looked like a young defense on the rise last year, and if the Redskins are to threaten or possibly exceed .500, it will have to continue that rise.

Nightmare scenario (5-11): That would mean the same record as last year and one game worse than the year before, and it would drop Mike Shanahan's three-year record as the team's head coach to a rather uninspiring 16-32. That would be what's called, in official NFL terms, "not good." In the Redskins' nightmare scenario, Griffin struggles with the transition, the wide receiver group is as uninspiring as Washington's free-agency critics believe it is, and the offensive line falls apart thanks to injury for the second year in a row. In the nightmare scenario, the secondary remains a big-time weakness of the defense and costs the Redskins dearly in division games against the likes of Eli Manning, Tony Romo and Michael Vick. If all of this happens, the Redskins would enter the 2013 offseason with far more to fix than they currently believe they do, and with questions about Shanahan's future as coach. I don't think there's much that can happen to wreck the Griffin honeymoon between now and January, but if the rest of the team plays well around him and he commits too many turnovers, that particular nightmare scenario could make Redskins fans nervous about the new franchise quarterback going into next season.

I'm the biggest Skins Dan Snyder hater on the planet, but if Griffin is as good as everyone thinks he is, I would urge patience. Very few rookie QB's, no matter how talented, have kick ass first seasons when they go to a shitty team. And face it, the Skins were shitty last year. The biggest problem with the nightmare scenario is that they are weak with draft picks...

So the report from OTAs is that RGIII (doesn't look comfortable in the pocket). And here we go.

Shanny wants to relive the 90s by having a mobile QB. But John Elway was also a great pocket passer. And the 3-4 defense isn't nearly as forgiving on the roll out and bootleg like the 4-3s were back in Shanny's heyday. Elway used to run away from lumbering DTs. RGIII is going to be running straight into OLBs who are built like Strong Safeties.

So is this guy going to be Cam Newton, or Vince Young?

Taylor was already added to the ring of fame posthumously a few years back. I was at that game, they had a ceremony. His dad spoke and it was really awkward.

So far that’s 5. Seriously, 10 is going to be stretching it. I think it’s a terrible idea on the Skins part.

I don't know if his numbers justify it, but they love Phillip Daniels. And you have London Fletcher. Sadly, the only QB who would come close is Mark Brunell, mostly because he's the only QB to head a playoff game winning team in a decade.

I agree Chris Samuels should be one, possibly Jansen too,

London is still active so I don't know about him,,,maybe when he's done

Santana and Clinton as ALL TIME greats?

I think they should add players as justified and not try to fill a quota with the last 10yrs "talent",,,they should be border-line Hall Of Famers,,,

So far,,,

1) Chris Samuels

2) Chris Cooley

I’m not so sure Cam Newton is all that. He’s certainly got athletic ability, but have you heard him speak? Doesn’t strike me as the sharpest tool in the shed.

By all acounts, RG3 is going to be very, very good. The reason he hasn’t signed his contract yet is so that he can spend as much time as possible at Redskins park. Currently he’s there about 12 hours a day. Signed players have limited access to the park for per the CBA, unsigned players are free to do whatever. The Redskins are using this loophole to get RG3 as prepared as possible. I’m sure Mara will be in Godell’s ear about this unfair competitive advantage soon. In any case, if RG3 sucks, it won’t be for lack of effort.

He won’t start but yeah, still think he makes the team. Say what you want about the guy, he’s a hard worker and has good character. I’d take him over Landry any day of the week. At least he can stay healthy. Madieu Williams, Brandon Meriweather, Tanard Jackson, and whatever camp fodder/rookies they happen to bring in will fight it out for the starting positions.

Doughty's problem is speed. You can be a hard worker and have all the character in the world, but you can't "coach up" speed. I've seen too many receivers outrun and out maneuver Doughty in critical situations.

If you have a strong pass rush, the secondary always looks better,,,

If you KNOW you have a good rush and set your secondary up to take advantage of that, your players look better when they're in better positions,,,I think that's what Morris is doing with the secondary, esp. with D.Hall,,,

If your rush is getting back there quick, and you have d-backs clogging the dump offs in the middle of the field, you don't need as much speed,,,

You can only go deep if you have enough time,,

Watch this season. If you see a receiver wide open in the End Zone, look for Doughty. You will see him stumbling toward him, a day late and a dollar short. The guy is great at stopping the run and putting pressure on a QB, but he can't keep up with most starting wideouts.

Given the talent he has to work with, I would like to see Morris use his CBs for more press coverage and work with the DC to mix up pass rush and coverage on intermediate routes with the LBs, using safeties almost exclusively for over the top to stop big plays. I just don't think you can bring players like Doughty up to the line and expect them to get back fast enough to prevent big plays.
