Hightower will likely be back once he and his agent draw little to no interest from anyone else. I hear he has rehabbed very well.

The man who writes the checks is the one who makes the ultimate decision. The only power Allen and Shanny have is the power Snyder gives them. The fact that you don't understand how the real world works shows that you are the one who is clueless.

The only thing I will miss about Beck is Steve Czaban's comments about him. My favorite was Czabe's reference to him as the Frank Abignale, Jr. of the NFL. No truer words were spoken.

The “real world” in which you apparently live (under a rock perhaps) has Snyder responsible for all aspects running of the organization. Ultimately because he owns the team, this can be said to be true. However, the owner of the company I work for is no more responsible for doing my job as the McDonalds CEO is for flipping burgers. I have corrected your ignorance in regards to Snyder’s involvement in personnel decisions numerous times yet you continue to play dumb. So be it. You’ve proven your opinions on these matters to be useless anyway.

The CEO of any company makes the call on big purchases and the hiring of senior executives. If you are comparing what Bruce Allen does and his role to a "burger flipper," you really have no clue how business works.

Playing dumb again. Repeat after me: "Dan Snyder isn't responsible for choosing free agents or draft picks. That responsibility lies with the people he has hired to do so (Allen, Shanahan, Brown, Campbell and their supporting staff).

Well,,,looks like Laron Landry has signed with the Jets

I always liked Laron but he handled his injury badly and is probably going to be re-injured by pre-season,,,

The Jets are as bad as the Redskins when it comes to questionable off season signings,,,

The move that is disapointing is Donte Stallworth going to the Patriots,,he was one of the few big recievers on the team,,he started looking good by the end of the season,,,

The writing was on the wall for both of them. Donte was cut last year and only came back when Hankerson got hurt. Laron wasn't even going to be asked back. Bridge burned when he opted for his own treatment.

Let me put it this way. Neither Allen nor Shanny were known for clusterfuck personnel decisions before coming to DC. Yet the past two years have been riddled with them, particularly on the free agency side of things.

If you think Snyder isn't behind this, you are blind, stupid or both.

Clusterfuck personnel decisions like drafting a kicker in the first round? Or still taking cap hits for Rich Gannon three years after he retired? Look at the lack of Raider talent. You can thank Bruce Allen for that. He also unnecesarily imploded the Bucs. John Lynch still had some good years left.

Again, you show that you just don't know what you don't know. You like to believe that Snyder is involved in signings and front office goings on from top to bottom. It fits in nicely with your “As long as Snyder owns the team, they will never win.” philosophy. However, it doesn’t make it true.

The idea that Snyder is the reason the team hasn’t invested in O-Line help (what brought us to this point in the first place) thus far is absurd and shows how simple your view of this (or any other) team really is. Anyway, carry on, I’m sure there are many people who are impressed with your tired message. :-)

It looks like Snyder is going to demand arbitration over the salary cap penalty,,,which he should

The penalty is probably to blame for the team not signing a high profile o-lineman,,,,and at this point most of the best ones are gone

Fighting for his teams interests at the league level is an appropriate role for Dano,,,and if he wins, I'll certainly give him the credit he deserves,,,

He should but it looks like Jerry Jones and the Cowgirls will not. Lame.

They reason they haven’t gone after linemen is because in their system, they view linemen differently than most. They feel they can get good production out of smaller, lesser talented linemen that other teams don’t want. Especially at the guard position. Take Dockery for example, he was a better overall lineman, but didn’t fit the system well, so they let him go and started Lichtensteiger (who no one wanted).

Shanahan fully believes he can sculpt young talent for his zone blocking scheme, off the street. He has shown he could do this in the past. The problem is, that the types of players that Shanahan wanted for his revolutionary zone blocking scheme back then were not desired by nearly any other teams in the NFL. These days, I'd bet that about half the NFL teams, utilize some form of the ZBS. The players that fell to the late rounds or went undrafted area are now more coveted.

With that said, only nine teams gave up more sacks and their running game yards/carry was below average. For the last several years, injuries have revealed a lack of depth. I'd love to the Skins get one of the few bigger names still available in Nicks, Bell, and Grubbs. Other guys that might be of interest to the Skins are OT Anthony Collins and OT Adam Goldberg. Obviously, RT is the biggest area of need. Brown can’t stay healthy and wasn’t much good when he was. I imagine they will also look towards the draft for more linemen but with a “best player available” philosophy in mind which could prevent that from happening.

The other problem with the draft is that they also need safeties. They have guys on the line, even if they aren't really very good. With the safety position, the number 1 and 2 walked and were cut respectively so it’s more of a need. I’m guessing OT/OG won't be addressed until at least the 4th.

If it makes Skins fans feel any better, any scrap heap they put together on O-line can't be much worse, than what RG3 was rolling with Baylor. :-p

When exactly did Shannahan prove he can turn any line into a monster? Are you referring to the HOF caliber line he had in Denver?

Shanny can think what he wants the results show he is wrong. Theres a reason why he was fired and he will be fired again.

RG3 will not be throwing up Baylor type numbers until their line drastically improves

I'm referring to exactly what I stated in the post you replied to. Perhaps you should read it again. As usual, your analysis is worthless. When you have something intelligent to add to the conversation, let us know. Read: “The line sucks and so does Shanahan” doesn’t count.

Dan Snyder and the Redskin's coaching staff were very impressed,,,,

So were the coaches of the Colts,,,

The Colts still haven't talked to Luck about a contract,,,it may not be a done deal yet. The Colts may still pick RGIII.

I'm not concerned. Like, at all. The Colts have been in love with Luck since last year. He's more in the mold of Peyton Manning. I'm sure Luck will have a good pro day tomorrow too.

We're still about five weeks from the draft.. way too early to sign the 1st pick.. I'm guessing they will do it about a week before the draft.

Even if I'm wrong, and the Skins do end up with Luck, COOL! Nothing wrong with that! If you're a Skins fan, it's a good problem to have. :)

You could be right Hatemotor. I'm finding myself getting attached to idea of RG3 in burgundy and gold. I'm glad the Skins made the trade when they did, his stock is definitely rising. May have cost too much if they waited. Vinny would have waited until draft day and given up twice as many picks.

After listening to sports talk radio and lurking on Extremeskins I really think that a large chunk of the fanbase would be disappointed if the Skins drafted Luck instead of RG3.

While I think Luck will have a great career, RG3 is definitely the more exciting prospect. More upside, perhaps?

Wouldn't that be something?

All said, though, Luck is probably a better fit for Shanny's system. When Elway was in it, he wasn't as mobile as he had been when he was younger and really relied on his arm and pocket presence. The closest comparison to RGIII would be Jake Plummer, who had some success in the system, but never did much in the playoffs. On the flipside, Danny Boy probably realizes he will sell a lot more jerseys with RGIII than with Luck. I watched Luck do an interview and it was like watching paint dry. He's got more in common with Eli than Peyton in that department.

I think all this Luck/RG3 controversy is being manufactured by the NFL.

And I think that's the same reason the Colts won't sign Luck to a contact before the draft. That sucks all the drama out of the first round and could result in lower TV ratings and less casual fan interest.

Looks like the Cowboys have decided to team up with Redskins and fight the salary cap penalties,,,

Jones actually made a great point too,,,The league has to approve all player contracts, and it did,,,

Jones told the Morning News the Cowboys have talked to the Redskins, and Washington also wants to fight the penalties.

"The Cowboys ... don't agree with that and how it was figured. I guess the Redskins feel the same way. We're trying to work through that," Jones told the Morning News.

Jones, the Cowboys' owner since 1989, admitted he found it strange to be teaming up with the Redskins.

"First of all, there is no joy in Mudville, having to team up with the Redskins on a point with the league," Jones told the Morning News. "They're competitors, not cohorts. It just shows you, independent of that, some of the issues we have with this cap-space issue. Sometimes you can have strange bedfellows and this is one of them.",

And then theres this from Giant's owner John Mara,,,

"I thought the penalties imposed were proper," Mara told ESPNDallas.com. "What they did was in violation of the spirit of the salary cap. They attempted to take advantage of a one-year loophole, and quite frankly, I think they're lucky they didn't lose draft picks."

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones told the site, "That's John's opinion. That's not my opinion."

As head of the council that imposed the penalties, Mara has vested interest in how the grievances play out. The NFL docked the Redskins $36 million and the Cowboys $10 million for manipulating contracts during the 2010 uncapped year, and NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported the arbitration case will be heard by Professor Stephen Burbank of the University of Pennsylvania.

Yeah that seems fair, have a division rival determine your penalty for a crime you didn't commit,,,

Hard to believe these two are the good guys in this,,,

Yet I'd bet that you wouldn't feel a conflict of interest if it was the Broncos and Chiefs that Mara was disciplining. There are only 32 teams to which you can pick from to have people on committees and whatnot. It's not a huge pool of diversity and in a sense, they are all in competition with each other. It just happens to be and NFC east "conflict of interest".

Mara just happened to be on the committee that handed dowm an extremely harsh penalty the day before free agency for rules that didn't exist over contracts the league office approved creating a huge competitve disadvantage for two division rivals,,,

Yeah, I think it's a conflict of interest,,,

I'm not to concerned what RGIII looks like, all I care about is how he plays,,,

Anyone who has ever heard an interview with the guy knows he has way better than average intelligence, understands the game, has a great attitude and lots of confidence in his abilities,,,

There is no "sure thing" in the NFL draft, but he is as close as it gets,,,

McNabb is right. The only person who fits Shanahan's offense was John Elway. Shanahan has proven that every year Elway has been retired.

Steve Young looked good in Shanny's system with the 49ers,,,

Matt Schaub seemed to fit pretty well in Kyle's system,,,

The one thing McNabb was probably right about is that if RGIII doesn't look like he's working out in the system, they'll bring in a new coach and a new system,,,

RG3 is way more athletic than any of those QB's. But the thing is, he can throw just as well, if not better than those guys. People sometimes can't get past his freakish running ability and its easy to see he can throw better than he runs.

Its good he had a turrible line at Baylor, he'll know whats coming when he puts on the burgundy & gold.

Is McNabb going to be picked up by anyone or has he signed with some broadcaster?

I had to laugh today at McNabb's comments. RGIII is perfectly ready, to handle the Shanahan offense, now has some weapons with Garcon, Morgan, and of course Davis is a monster. Let's get the man some more O Line help though.

Jake Plummer did too. He never realy got the chance to finish developing Cutler, but he looked good under him to. Shanny's problem in Denever were mainly on the defensive side of the ball.

I don't think there will be any more free agent signings until after the draft,,,

Some teams will probably draft players that enable them to cut veterans and the free agent pool will grow some again,,,

I have to believe the focus then will be on the offensive line, and getting some vets that can start by the beginning of the season,

The appeal on the cap penalty will probably be resolved, and free the Redskins to make some moves,,,

It seems like no matter who is picking the players the o-line always gets ignored.

Mediocre running game, mediocre QB, mediocre WR's...all these problems (and the Skins have all 3) can be minimized by having a good o-line. WTF?!?

Shanahan also never went 5-11 and was never blanked in a game before coming to Washington. Odds are RGIII won't have two years in a Shanahan system.

And only Griese and Plumber made their first pro bowl under shanny. Elway and Schroder had already been pro bowlers.

That is a VERY VERY misleading stat and Grossman isnt making the pro bowl so its also coming to an end

RG III is a freak. Luck if the Colts per the rumor goes switch to pick RG, that's fine. The key is having a young signal caller, who's got some movement with that "line." LOL. Sorry, bad joke, Redskins O-Line. At the same time, they need to draft with the few picks they have all O-Line help, much like the Jets have done.

Have the Jets been great? Nope. Yet they've been in the playoffs, and RGIII or Luck is better than Sanchez and company. And at the very least, although Shanahan and son are a bit obnoxious, they are perfectly dainty gentlemen compared to that full of air Rex Ryan up in NY.

Also very true, and having a hall of fame O-line didnt hurt either. Dont forget McCafery and Lelie too and a group of backs that were all very good catching the ball.

I mean really how hard is it to be considered a QB guru when you go from coaching Montana and Young to a team that already is set up to win and has Elway at the helm.

I love this revisionist history,,,

I'm old enough to remember when Elway lost 3 Super Bowls and was no shoo in for the Hall of Fame, he was ridiculed for being a choker,,,

Steve Young was so highly regarded after his stay on the Buccaneers and in the USFL that he took a back up job behind a guy he had NO CHANCE of replacing,,

The Hall of Fame offensive line was built around Shanahan's controversial style of blocking,,,plenty of players and fans called it cheating,,,

Elway was such a huge talent he was 0-3 without Shanny but 2-0 with him in SuperBowls,,,and Shanny has a ring w the 49ers,,,Elway never won ANYTHING without Shanahan,,,

Anyone over 40 knows it wasn't all Elway,,,

Shanahans downfall has been defense, that's why he fixed it first,,,

Options: ReplyQuote
Re: 2012 Redskins *The NEW Era begins*

Elway never had receivers or a running game to work with under Dan Reeves. If Elway had Terrell Davis, McCaffrey and Smith under Reeves, he would have won a Super Bowl or two.

As for Steve Young, you need to check his USFL stats. He got screwed over by QB-ing for the then horrific Bucs. And most of the credit goes to Bill Walsh, anyway. It was his system, not Shanny's, that was behind Young's success.

No my point is still that it takes talent AND coaching to win at the highest level in the NFL,,,

All the players mentioned experienced their best days with Shanny, and he with them,,,to say one or the other was the "only reason they won" isn't fair,,,

Like him or not, Shanahan has been very successful during his coaching career and is a true offensive innovator,,,

Marty Schottenheimer would kill for a SuperBowl victory, and I would still consider him a very good coach,,,

Joe Gibbs was a better coach and had more success under the Snyder regime. Fact is, Shanny won't win with Luck or RGIII. It's the Redskins curse under Snyder.

Steve Young didnt have his best days under Shanny, not even remotely close. Jay Schroeder didnt have his best days under Shanny. Jake Plumber hated Shanny so much he retired. Griese was a disappointment everywhere he was. Hell even Rex Grossman had better days on the Bears.

You give Shannahan far to much credit for having success with stacked teams that were in place when he arrived. He won in Denver early then they had a nice decline that ultimately got him fired.

If those other teams successes were as much a result of his systems and coaching as you claim, the skins would be a much better team and he wouldnt have had the WORST winning percentage of any coach under Synder......

They cleaned house and did actually rebuild. What veterans have the skins traded for picks to actually rebuild? Theyve done the exact opposite really and been trading picks for veterans

Had he come in made some trades for picks and really tried to rebuild from the start that would be fine. But instead he came in tried to win right away realized he couldnt and now is saying hes trying to rebuild to keep his job

And who, pray tell, did the Redskins have to trade for picks?

Cooley, Landry and Orakpo were about it, and they were core players they were trying to build around,,,

And as far as the rebuild goes, there are no more than 7 players left on the roster since Shanahan took over,,,

That's not a rebuild?!!!

How about sellers and fletcher when they still had value.

You are right that they didnt have a ton to trade, but they had some.

Trading for McNabb wasnt a rebuild move.

My point is more that rebuilding wasnt the plan. He thought he was going to perform a miracle and they were going to compete from day one. It took two losing seasons for him to realize they couldnt win now.

Shanny isnt a terrible coach but hes not a rebuild guy. He can help a team already in place, aka Denver when he started out. But even looking at his time there once the personal was all in his hands they went down hill pretty fast.

They need someone that can rebuild as opposed to a guy that can help a team thats already there. Kerrigan was a real good pick, but theyve missed on quite a few picks so far and with what they gave up for RG3 there isnt going to be much help on the way aside from him the next few years.

Shannahan drafted Maurice Clarett in like the second or third round of the draft one year. No other team would have touched that guy with a 100 yard pole.

In fact, Shannahan is pretty well known for very suspect personnel decisions.

He had two losing seasons in 14 years as head coach in Denver. Again, offense was not the problem.

No, no. Snyder controls all things Redskins and hand picks the players personally, that’s why they are cursed. I swear, you can’t make this stuff up. Hard to believe WTL actually believes it.

I think Shanny truly believes he can take mediocre/shit players, stick them in his magical system, coach them up a bit, and win consistently.

His casual disregard of the Skins o-line is proof of this.

I think there is some truth to this. That said, I imagine they will address the line in the draft and after in FA.

Curses are real when they are tied to incompetent management decisions. MC obviously hadn't worked around many wealthy business owners. I'm here to educate you...they all have the final say. Some are just better at it than others.

Exactly this. The only time he has any interest in saying hes rebuilding is when he thinks his job is on the line. He really does think hes smarter than everyone and can make it work with anyone since his system is so great. I have little doubt that hes actually shocked he hasnt made the playoffs yet

I currently work for a wealthy business owner. He hired me for my years of specific expertise and pays me well for it. He knows that hiring someone like me with years of experience is more beneficial to the company than if he were to attempt the job himself without said experience/expertise.

Final say is one thing. Running the show is another. You know I'm just giving you a hard time but the way you link everything the front office does to Snyder is borderline retarded. You're not "educating" anyone, don't flatter yourself. ;)

...or that he knows they will not, which I'd bet money is the case. RG3 will be a Redskin, book it.

He probably is praying theyd be dumb enough to take him over Luck. Its not going to happen unless Irsay wants to go down as one of the dumbest owners ever.

And IF it were to happen it would have nothing to do with anything Shannahan did

My favorite was when they tried to sue the venders in New Orleans over the who dat shirts.

The skins are also apparently learning theyre limits people will pay as another 4 thousand seats have been removed from the stadium

Have you guys heard the Greg Williams tape from before the Saints/49ers game? OMG, it's appalling. He specifically tells the guys to go for Frank Gore's and Alex Smith's heads. He points out a receiver who had a concussion and told his players to go for the head. This guy needs a lifetime ban. How do you say things like that given what has been happening with concussions in the past several seasons?

I just saw that earlier. After hearing the tape there is 0 doubt whatsoever that he wasnt encouraging people to try and hurt guys as bad as possible and encouraging people to try and inflict serious life long damage if not worse.

He absolutely needs a life long ban and I really hope people follow Steve Youngs advice and sue him

I heard the father of the small kick returner Williams was talking about giving a concussion. He suggested the remarks were legally actionable.

I think he's right. I'm all for fiery rhetoric, and I think the pussification of the NFL is changing the game for the worse.

That being said. Gregg Williams went way over the line. It couldn't look worse in retrospect. Any NFL player that played against one of Williams defenses, and develops any ailment for the rest of their lives, will have a nice suit against him, the league and the team.
