Hazard signal in rain while DRIVING?
Posted by: Adam ()

Okay, WHY in the world do people put there hazard signals on when driving in rain?

I think this is the most unsafe thing you could do, normally hazard are used for when a car is parked but not in a parking space, or driving really slow.

When driving your parking lights are what other cars are suppose to see.

Why anyone thinks a blinking light is more visible then a solid one, is unknown to me.

riddle me this adam, what's more likely to catch your attention, a light that is on all the time or one that is blinking? if you answered "a light that is on all the time," then you are fucking dumbass and should reassess your position on killing yourself.

But since you are supposed to be paying attention to the road anyways you should not need a blinking light to alert you to a cars presence.

Excerpt from Virginia Code 46.2-1040:

Except for vehicles traveling as part of a funeral procession, all four turn signals shall not be flashed simultaneously while the vehicle is traveling faster than thirty miles per hour.

It's to let you know they're an idiot and don't get anywhere near them. I wish more awful drivers would do that, so I could see at a distance "idiot ahead" and steer clear of them.

+1 in response to Gravis, You should not need a blinking light to make you aware of a car.

If you haven't noticed, when it's raining that hard, EVERYONE slows down.

So hazards really do nothing other then possibly confuse other drivers if the car is moving or stoped.

For my own driving,I put on the hazards when I encounter sudden road changes, such as an immediate area of deep water on the road, sudden ice build up, or an accident that just happened ahead of me. The "flashers" alert those behind me that road conditions ahead are changing quickly and that they should slow down. I would think that most drivers would appreciate the "heads up" that something out of the ordinary is happening up ahead.

It is called "following the flight path" - in other words, do exactly would you are expected to do. If two vehicles arrive at a 4 way stop at the same time, there is a right of way that is granted. If you have a left turn green arrow, and you are in the left turn lane, make the left turn. Do not stop for green lights for fear they may turn yellow soon. Do not use your hazard lights unless there is the need to.

So many accidents occur because people simply do not what they are expected to do. My favorite example is the massive pile up and traffic jam because someone stopped on the WW bridge, got out of the car and took a picture. I understand driving defensively, but let us have some common sense people.

I would not know your hazard lights meant pot hole ahead, puddle, or your car is having difficulties. Trust the fact that if you saw the pothole, I would see it to.

Turn off your lights. Go like Hell! Ignore common sense. Drive drunk.
Flip cops a "bird". Honk your horn. Impress me with your hub caps and
high end tachometer even though you're driving a Civic with an automatic
transmission. BTW, be sure and turn up the stereo when you drive by a
graveyard so you can wake them all up. This ones's to you:

ยง 46.2-1040. Hazard lights.

Motor vehicles, trailers, and semitrailers, when temporarily stopped on the traveled or paved portion of the highway so as to create a traffic hazard, shall flash all four turn signals simultaneously to signal approaching motorists of the existing hazard whenever such vehicle is equipped with a device which will cause the four turn signals to flash simultaneously. All four turn signals may be flashed simultaneously on a vehicle slowed or stopped at the scene of a traffic hazard, when traveling as part of a funeral procession, or when traveling at a speed of thirty miles per hour or less. Except for vehicles traveling as part of a funeral procession, all four turn signals shall not be flashed simultaneously while the vehicle is traveling faster than thirty miles per hour.

School buses shall flash all four turn signals when approaching and stopping at railroad grade crossings.
