“You got compensated more for a kill shot than you did other hits,” former Redskins player

The Washington Redskins had a bounty system during the mid-2000s that rewarded players with thousands of dollars for big hits that knocked opponents out of games, a former Redskins coach and five players said Friday.

The program, which was operated under former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams between 2004 and 2007, was similar to one revealed Friday in an NFL investigation of the New Orleans Saints while Williams was the defensive coordinator there.

Four of the Redskins players described an informal system under which Williams doled out thousands of dollars to Redskins defenders who measured up to his standards for rugged play, including for what one described as “kill shots” that sent opposing teams’ stars to the sidelines.

“You got compensated more for a kill shot than you did other hits,” said one former Redskins player, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

So where did the money for these bounties come from? Greg Williams paycheck? I don't think so. How long before Vinnie has to testify?

The money came from player fines which everyone pooled. The article stated that.

Regardless of what the article says, expect Goodell to bury this quickly, like SpyGate. You don't think NFL owners like Jerry Jones and Snyder would think this kind of shit is great?

this is prolly why he didnt get the head coach job. Gibbs thought him an arrogant Bastard that would do the "missing man formation" without consulting him. Greg "Kill Shot" williams needs his career head cut off.

I have no doubt his career is over. But you have to wonder what a guy who paid a fat load like Fat Albert $40 million for driving his cleats into the face of a defenseless player thinks about Gregg "Kill Shot" Williams system.

No way Goodell is going to bury this. He loves this. Will make for more fines = Mo monee which means more control for his regime. More importantly, there is no way Williams is the only coach in the NFL who does this. He is the first to get caught is all. You think that idiot Ryan in Dallas doesn't pay his D for big hits?

Clearly nobody remembers how great the defense was under Williams. He wasn't here for Fat Albert so that doesn't fall on his shoulders. The Saints under him also had a #1 defense. Don't think for a minute the players don't have a system like this on their own. They do. Watch Mike and Mike some time and you will hear them talk about it. Football is not for the weak at heart. Has anyone on hear been on the bottom of a pile? You don't want to be!
