Jim Moran, despite his oath, is still pushing to violate the 1st amendment

Time for you to resign or be removed from office given your now undeniable call to violate the US constitution. You took an oath, you've now violated. Resign now.

Think he'll resign office in exchange for a case of really fine single malt scotch?

We don't need two threads on this, there is already one here.

The social tradeoff of free speech is that not all of it has to be plastered everywhere

Photoshopping the heads of GOP candidate's heads onto the bodies of goose-stepping Nazis would be free speech, but should I be able to paste it on the side of every bus? Or porn?

The westboro baptists play this card right to the edge - but only get away with it because there are so few of them. If there were more, you'd see the public demanding legal limits, or outright violence

The benefits of Free speech generally outweigh the downsides, but social norms are necessary - history has shown us where the spiraling whirlpool of hate speech takes you. Listening to the Limbaughs, the faux news brigade, the Gingrichs and the Santorums makes you feel as if you're in the 1930's again - and we all know how that ended, Goebbels would be impressed.

Moran was right to call this one out.

If every politician who advocated the government commit some act contrary to the Constitution was forced to resign, we'd probably have very few members of the existing Congress left. Blowing up at government institutions that allow themselves to become forums for objectionable speech is a time honored ritual among Washington politicians. I seem to remember plenty of instances where Republicans have objected to NEA and PBS money being used to fund things they found objectionable.

We get it OP. You are embarrassed to have Moran as your representative. Well shaming him isn't going to get him to leave. If you want him gone then you have to get the opposition party to run a candidate whose views are much more closely in line with the 8th District's than you have done in the past.

I didn't say it would be a problem.

Moran is such a paragon of virtue. He reminds me of Teddy Kennedy in many ways.
