WSHS is not different from other FFX County schools. Sooner or later the crazy ones get promoted to central administration. The sad part is that they get into those higher positions and they really can't tell who is a good teacher because they have never been one themselves and/or they equate brown nosing and being easily intimidated with being a good teacher. A good teacher is a leader and an independent thinker and what the current top administrators favor are followers (followers of all the insane mandates and rules). Is it any wonder that there are some "crazy teachers" out there. The great ones are either becoming crazy or will leave soon.
Yep, it's a dang crazy world out there. You just have to learn to navigate through the minefield and you'll be okay.
You need to look at the levels above the teachers (and to the political process that funds the schools) in order to understand what is really happening. Unfortunately the powers that be want to deflect scrutiny from those levels. Someone is picking those teachers, "developing" them, paying them (or not), making them use E-Cart (and creating that creature) and encouraging them to teach to the test. There is also the joy of worrying about their retirements and evaluations based on student test scores, etc., etc. Barely a day goes by when there isn't some attack in the papers. Last week it was reducing the teachers to 3 year contracts with no cause necessary for letting a teacher go at the end of the three years. That bill did not pass the Virginia Senate, but just barely. And it goes on and on.
Yes, it's going to get harder and harder to attract those great people into teaching and people will complain that there are no quality teachers.
I wouldn't be surprised if the OP is a central office administrator who has no idea how to evaluate teachers or what to do about the situation. Frustrating, isn't it?
