Anyone know about the food here? They have a Groupon $20 food for $10, and it can be used for carryout.

I've been on time, and that was enough. Fatty meat, especially the ribs. Chicken was bland as the sides were unremarkable.

I say pass.

I know most of the BBQ places in NoVa but haven't been here. My previous favorite was Carolina Brothers in Ashburn, but I haven't been impressed there recently.

My latest favorite is Pork Barrel BBQ in Del Ray (Alexandria) on Mount Vernon Ave.

Awesome!

Been once myself. Not what I call BBQ. Not the greatest of what ever it is. I'm still trying to find a real BBQ joint in this area...

Has Carolina Brothers gone down hill? I haven't been since fall but man, it was awesome.

I say Willard's and Carolina BBQ are the two best bbq places in the area.

Pork Barrel in Del Ray is wonderful, limited menu but thats OK, very very good, NO gristle at all (that ruins it for me if I find gristle) kinda pricey for ribs tho.

I have been to Pork Barrel only once so far. Itwas ok, a bit pricey overall and the ribs I had were very fatty. I generally reserve judgement on a place until after a second visit to make sure it wasn't a fluke, either way (good or bad), but have not been back to Pork Barrel because of the quality of those ribs. I will give them another chance at some point.

Virginia BBQ isn't bad for a quick alternative to fast food, but it is definitely not great "BBQ" if you are comparing it to traditional places. I asked them where they smoke the meat. It is actually smoked out of state (N. or S. Carolina, can't remember what they said) so it isn't even fresh smoked/cooked BBQ.
