Intersection of 7100 (soon to be 286) and Popes Head Rd

Since I know this is a topic folks love to hate (or hate to love), I thought I'd toss this little tidbit out, from Pat Herrity's recent newsletter:

I [Pat Herrity] worked with VDOT to extend the green time for the Parkway at Popes Head Road. This is reportedly the longest green light in the state.

Wow...the longest light in the state. And to think, it's right here in our backyard! :-|

It is a miserable intersection if you're on Pope's Head Road. Been a while since I was (indirectly) involved with traffic engineering, but with embedded detectors and some tweaking, couldn't the intersection timing be improved so give the Parkway all the green light it needs, but more quickly trigger a green for Pope's Head when needed?

For instance, I love (well, like) the intersection of Zion and 123. 123 keeps the green light unless someone pulls up on Zion to make a left. If no one's been there for a while (just guessing, maybe 90 seconds), the light almost instantly turns green. It's fair to drivers on both roads.

Yeah, I searched for it but it didn't come up for some reason (prolly user error). I'd much rather have had the link in that one than have a new one.

I live over there and it is annoying... just another way to "get back" at the 1% providing all the jobs. Whatever makes them happy.

Now that 7100 is going to be a primary road, perhaps Gerry boy can get some tasty Federal Stimulus Dough(TM) to build an overpass there.

Boy wouldn't that be nice, overpasses at Pope's Head, Burke Centre Pkwy, Burke Lake Rd, Old Keene Mill, and Lee Chapel. C'mon Gerry, get on it!

Rename Popes Head Gerry Connolly Road. It goes nowhere, costs lots of money and aggravates people.

needed to be a overpass over 10 FUCKING YEARS AGO!! - ALL of the intersections Talking C. mentioned need to be done.............

Why do we have to wait for a fatality to get safety improvements made?

Just as long as they get money to repave the Parkway from Lee Chapel to 66. That has to be the shittiest fucking piece of rad in NoVa. I am at the point where I refuse to drive my car down that stretch of road. You about need a truck or a vehicle with heavy duty suspension.

Fuck Popes Head. And what's with the fucking EIGHTY FUCKIN FIVE MILLION fucking cameras all over that intersection. I thought red-light cameras were only legal for 8 fuckin seconds 6 fucking years ago so fucking take those road hazards down already. I hope who ever hits that steel pole or the fuckin solar powered bullshit camera in the median sues VDOT for all the orange trucks in the state.

Fuck Popes Head and anyone turning on to, or off of, that road. Fuckin fucks.

Southbound on the Parkway right after 66 looks like a minefield. Big mean potholes all over the place. I weave to avoid them but some cop will claim I was drunk and pull me over then find something to write me for.
