Anyone have any recommendations for a good dentist in the Northern VA area? Someone reasonable and who will not do unnecessary work for things that do not need to be done? Thanks!

I have always had bad teeth. I thought I found the perfect dentist but he ended up not being truthful and it cost me big time. He ended up mismanaging my teeth in a way that did unhidden damage. I was told about Steve Price who is on Backlick Rd. in Annandale; how great he was; how personable he was, blah, blah, blah. So I made an appointment.

Two years later I haven’t been happier. He isn’t even at the top tier of my insurance (meaning I have to pay more out of pocket for him to do any dental work), yet I’m OK with that. Now I have my entire family going to him.

Steve Price is very honest and upfront’ pulling no punches.

I promise you this:

Make an appointment with him. Meet him. Talk to him. He will “listen” to what you have to say. You won’t be disappointed.

He is someone who is very reasonable and does not do unnecessary work. He also does the clear braces, invisalign, which are a big plus.

Give him a call, I am sure he will work with you.

I go to the Hoffman dental group in Fairfax on Main St, right across from Woodson. Never have to schedule an appointment too far out or wait in the lobby too long. I've bounced around to a few dentists but I've stuck with Hoffman a few times now, looks like they might be my people. Not too bad and real close to my place.

I have been going do Dr Nguyen for years at Burke Dental. He is very good and honest, they evne sent me a check once for something they didn't think insurance would cover and I paid up front for but the insurnace did cover. His wife is also a dentist and also works there. Highly recommended.

Stay away from the dentist in the Farifax City circle a couple doors down from Peter Pan. Forget his name but a bad experience.

I had been going to Dr Johnson since he first opened up. He was great for years, but something happened a few years ago. Lots of "upselling" including flouride treatments which are completely bogus for an adult.

I'm not even sure if Johnson (himself) still practices----I hadn't seen him in years up til when I quit going there. It was always some newly minted dentist that was just passing through on their way to somewhere else. Don't remember any names because they were always gone by the next time I went.

So if you want salemanship and paying top dollar for a journeyman dentist, this is the place for you

Avoid D. Gordon Rye in Fairfax. Very nice facilities and a pleasant manner. But a few years ago, someone I know had a dental problem. Basically, her tooth hurt, especially with hot or cold foods. It hurt bad. Rye couldn't track down the problem--repeated X-rays and other services. This went on for 9 months! The patient went to another dentist who immediately identified the problem: There was a small gap between the filling and the nerve in the tooth. Replacing the filling was all it took.

If Rye couldn't diagnose and address that problem, the question was: What else would he miss?

This is probably becoming the norm. I had a similar experience with another dentist in Fair Oaks. Great dentist, but the last few years there's been a lot of upsell. I think the optional things like invisilign, whitening, etc.... have a lot of markup that means more $ for the dentist. Their everyday stuff like cleanings and cavities is totally controlled by insurance so not as much to be made there.

So I hadn't been to the dentist in nearly 10 years. Looked up the best dentist list in that magazine that specializes in lists. Found old time dentist in Vienna at least he'd practiced in same place for 30 years. I had x-rays which was fine, expected that. Told no cavities. The old doc did his look see and found 3 cavities and kept talking about replacing a cap I've had on a front tooth for 20 years but hasn't bothered me one bit other than slight discoloration. Anyways I let the old doc fill the 3 cavities he found. Unfortunately, for me he put in too much filler in one cavity which caused me great discomfort. I hadn't been having any problems before going to see the dentist. Had to go back three times to the dentist for which I was charged a nice fee each time. I went back to the dentist one more time for a cleaning but I just got feeling I was dealing with imcopentency or being dicked.
I know of a supposedly outstanding dentist in Burke but I ain't telling you.
Frankly, I still find it odd for a dentist to set up shop in a strip mall. Just doesn't seem professional too me.
And why with what seems like so many dentists in the area do they charge so much? Price collusion?
Is Jaime Park the dentist who does big postcard mailers about 3 or 4 times a year?

Stay away from corporation dentistry---as in "many locations" and usually no name of the individual practicing dentists on the building. These are the practices that will upsell until they are blue in the face and find work that another dentist would probably watch to see if the problem progresses. Many times you'll find these guys in, you guessed it, strip mall atmospheres. Now not ALL dentists employed by corporations are like this, but their compensation is tied to production: the more work they do, the better their take home paycheck is...

Avoid Dr. Trung Ho in Herndon. Told me I had 6 cavities and I had never had any before. I asked him to show me on the xray and he said you could not see them. Needless to say I was skeptical. I was 28 at the time and got a second opinion from Casey Family Dentistry in Oakton. It is a father son team and I had Dr. Todd Casey (son). He told me I have deap groves in my molars that are stained but not cavities. 3 years later and still no cavities. Dr. Ho wanted almost 1k to fix them and call me regularly for the next 2 years. Bad choice picking a dentist off the list since I wanted a "ho" to clean my teeth. Avoid unless you like your teeth being drilled so he can retire early.

For root canal Jayesh Patel in Fairfax Corners. You will probably have to be referred by your family dentist but he simply is the best. I have had several root canals by other dentists that have failed because they don't have the right equipment for endo, Dr Patel does and when he fixes your tooth it stays fixed . I would travel hundreds of miles to have him do my root canal. Don't let a family dentist do root work - they almost always fail

Can't be. But consider the source...(look who posted it)

Has anyone have any positive or negative feedbacks with Dr. Tim Elder in DC, James Ronis or Mark Miller in McLean or Robert DeWitt in Vienna? Thanks.

Remember this when you pick out a dentist.

You can't get brain surgery for a dollar and a quarter. Get my drift.
Go cheap you get cheap.

not sure if I should be happy or concerned that nobody mentioned my dentist (dentists really, have dealt with all of the guys in the office at one point or another).

I showed up with horrible teeth. I had multiple chipped teeth and cavities galore. I didn't even have a dentist. One sunday my tooth hurt so bad I couldn't take it and started calling around for a dentist willing to see me immediately on a sunday because I was in agony. The only people willing to see me were "Fairfax Family Dental Care" right by the court house. I live out in Alexandria so it was a bit far but I needed help so I had no choice.

I have been with them ever since. It hasn't been cheap but I wasn't expecting that considering the shape my teeth were in. Multiple crowns/fillings/root-canals later and my mouth is in much better shape and I don't have to hide my teeth while smiling. They have been good about giving me money back when insurance over charges. Everybody is friendly. I have had a few dentists around here and this is the only one I have stuck with because they don't make me feel like shit. They just fix my teeth. Nothing is more annoying than a dentist lecturing you like a child and then asking for a shti ton of money. Guess what: if you make me ashamed to come to your office then I am going to stop showing up and give my money to somebody else. Fairfax Family Dental has been good to me and that is why I keep returning.

^^ This is what I felt like when I first got there -- in pain -- no regular dentist -- yes they fixed the problem -- but found out that they charged me way more than other dentists in the area -- My 5 year old son was given a root canal on a baby tooth and it came out a month later -- I also had 2 root canals and crowns, which later came off prematruely and was told by another dentist who reparied them -- that whoever put these in, did a poor job --

Was told yet another tooth needed a route canal and crown and to schedule an appt. with the front desk for it "on the way out" I still have this tooth and it is serving me well -- 4 years later!!!

Also, when we disputed a charge with them -- we were told we would be billed X amount and when the bill came in the mail with a much higher amount -- we disputed it in writing -- the every next week -- we were hearing from their Lawyers in the mail -- this is why we have never gone back to Fairfax Family Dental -- the poster above is right -- They get right to work and don't bother you with narratives on your brushing habits, etc. -- but BUYER BEWARE!!

I recommend Dr Nana Dickson at Allegra Dental Center (http://allegradc.com/) whenever I can. I needed a dentist and wanted to find a newer, more modern dental practice. I checked reviews, ZocDoc, etc before deciding to try Dr Dickson. I've had no regrets at all. She is right outside of the Mosaic District in Merrifield. Luckily I've been cavity free for years but I started an Invisalign treatment last year and have an implant scheduled for this year. I'll probably do a Zoom treatment too but I am still researching the different whitening options. I've been in the office a few times and everyone (patients and staff) are always in a great mood. Cheers

One of the best dentist in Reston without doubt IMO is Dr. Mahathi Nanduri at "Smilezone Family & Cosmetic Dentistry" in Reston VA. I would highly recommend just check the reviews on Google and see why not just me but other patients also consider her the best dentist in Herndon or Reston. Her office is modern and treatment is painless. see for yourself. https://www.restonsmilezone.com

The office has plenty of parking... considering Reston Town Center :) which is a pain for parking. I have been to her office in afternoon and never found a problem finding parking. 11705 Bowman Green Dr, Reston VA 20190.
