wondering, i've heard a bunch of rumors about this building, looks to me like a CIA building from the looks of the massive security detail. someone told me that the roof reflects green back up into the air when viewed from a plane to make it look as if there were no building there at all. anyone with any info about this compound please enlighten me...

It's an NSA base station for communicating with their extraterrestrial overlords.

Funny how Google can dispel "rumors." Funny how some can't seem to figure that out. I mean there are plenty of signs around the building saying what it is... not really a secret, at least not for the last ten years.

A "secretive" office opened up across the street from where I worked and
rumors that it was CIA were all over. I didnt believe it because if the
CIA wanted their presence unknown, it would be. One day I asked someone
coming out of the door of this "covert" shop if the rumors were true. He
laughed out loud and said "No, its Ralph Naders field office. So much for
rumors.

This is probably not a revelation for many of you, but I really had no idea how much of the intelligence community and other "secret" organizations are sitting right among us. Hide in plain sight seems to be pretty effective if you don't need massive listening arrays like you find at NRO and the non-descript office buildings in Tysons are a perfect place to setup shop.

most of what they do is focused on OUTSIDE the US.

There have been rumors around the neighborhood for a long time that the CIA has secret offices in Tysons, back behind where the McLean Hilton is. I've seen Federal Protective Service vehicles back there, so it must be some sort of government office (one not listed anywhere and without signage).

You're probably thinking of the National Counterterrorism Center. The CIA rumors were around before NCTC moved to Tysons though.

Could be NCTC, but I was thinking about another office within DNI. I think that the office is near the post office and the Dulles Toll Road. There is security around the building (i.e., cameras), but otherwise rather innocuous. I am pretty sure that it is shared with other tenants so as not to attract too much attention.

If you mean near where International Drive turns into Spring Hill Rd, I've noticed govt vehicles full of secret-service looking guys a bunch of times near there. That's not where NCTC is, but there must be something near there.

Also, the FBI has offices in the glass towers behind the Doubletree hotel.

Yep, that sounds about right. I guess that it is the kind of thing that you might notice if you were looking for it, but it could easily blend into the surrounding noise. The people I know who work there are primarily in policy and management roles, SES-types, but I assume that there is "real work" going on there, too. The location seems to work as it provides ready access to Dulles, downtown DC, and Langley.

The NRO is responsible for planning the launch and coordination of our spy satellites. The building is just a bunch of nerds and engineers, nothing too special going on there. Very nice building though, especially for the gov't.

There are many office buildings that look "normal" on the outside and have SCIF's inside where a myriad of government agencies set up shop.

Have fun finding them....
