Liberty District

8 Marshall @ 1 Langley

7 Madison @ 2 Mclean
6 Jefferson @ 3 South Lakes

Concorde
1 Westfield: Bye-advances to regionals
5 Chantilly @ 4 Herndon

2 Robinson: Bye-advances to regionals
6 Oakton @ 3 Centreville

National and Patriot Districts have multiple ties and have not published the tie breakers

Patriot playoffs:

1 Woodson vs. 8 Lee
2 LB vs. 7 Annandale
3 SoCo vs. 6 W. Springfield
4 TC vs. 5 West Pot

Games at higher seed on Tuesday.

I predict all higher seeds will win. LB/SoCo will be LB, WT/TC will be Woodson with Woodson winning the district in an overtime thriller against LB.

Regional Final should be Woodson vs. Westfield

although woodson had a great year, I am almost certain they won't be in the regional finals,-- if i am wrong i will not post for a month. There freshman point guard is tremendous and the Stepka brothers are really good shooters. The key to beating them (IMO)is to put a good defender man to man on the younger brother tommy (some have tried yet they keep helping off of him) burn. and full court man to man on that freshman pt guard the entire game.No disrepect but the other guards are a little suspect. If I am wrong and woodson makes it to the regional finals, best of luck in the states! TC is down and the NR is wide open for about 8 teams.

(4) Herndon 64, (5) Chantilly 59

Concorde Semis will be...
(4) Herndon @ (1) Westfield
(3) Centreville @ (2) Robinson

Both games are at Centreville high school on Thursday. Herndon has a slight chance at taking down Westfield, but I don't see either games being close.

Centreville/Robinson will be the closer of the two. They split their 2 games this season, each winning at home.

True, but having seen them both Robinson is a whole lot better. If Robinson has an average shooting night for them they should take Centreville.

In the Patriot District
(4) TC Williams beat (1) Woodson
(3) South County beat (2) Lake Braddock

Championship will be 9pm Friday night at Lake Braddock.

Two missing starters and horrendous officiating in the last minute did in the Cavaliers who almost came back from a 12 point 4th quarter deficit.

SOCO was on fire from the 3 point line and marquise johnson and oren Burks dominated in the paint. SOCO was up by 11 with a min to go and won 67 to 60 over lake Braddock in the lake braddock gym! I beleive the last game when SOCO came back from a 20 point halftime deficit to beat lake braddock78 to 72, they realized they were a little better than LB.SOCO was up 10 with 28 seconds and braddock was still fouling whick is ok but with 6 second left and down 9 not sure why they were still fouling. It was obviously over. TC vs SOCO for district championship friday..

McLean should beat Lake Braddock...their seniors have been playing together forever.
Langley should beat Soco...a few key injuries have hurt Langley this year, but they still have a couple of big time scorers that find a way to win.
Woodson favored over Fairfax, but will be closer than most people think.
TC will win easily over Jefferson. way too athletic for Jefferson, this game will be over by halftime.
Edison by 10 over Herndon sounds good to me. The addition of Ferguson from Oconnell to Herndon has not panned out like most thought it would. Edison can match his quickness.
Westfield will crush Wakefield. Zach Elcano is too big and too good, plus a very strong backcourt.
W&L and Centreville is rated even, will come down to the last possession.
Robinson should continue their roll and beat Yorktown easily.

Langley is finished. Their head coach is on a leave of absence because his very young daughter has a tumor on her kidney. They are emotionally done. They lost to Fairfax this week and I think the very battle tested South County team beats them. Home teams win the other seven games. Herndon can't play defense and they don't play well together or take smart shots/possessions.

I was so wrong about Langley. They dominated the fourth quarter and beat South County 60-46. SC played very dumb in the fourth. Langley played smart with with great emotion.

Other region winners: McLean over Braddock, Edison over Herndon, Westfield over Wakefield by 2, centreville over WL by 5, tc over TJ, Fairfax huge upset over WT Woodson. Only one I don't have is Robinson-Yorktown result.

Heard rumor that Woodson coach Doug Craig had an altercation with Lake Braddock AD Mark Martino at the Patriot tourney last week and the wt Woodson AD suspended him from coaching the game tonight. Too bad. So sad. Goodbye Woodson

Last night's scores
C3 Centreville 60 @ N2 W&L 55
L3 Fairfax 54 @ P2 Woodson 51 (ot)
C4 Herndon 59 @ N1 Edison 71
L4 Jefferson 40 @ P1 TC Williams 56

P3 South County 46 @ L2 Langley 60
N3 Wakefield 55 @ C2 Westfield 57
N4 Yorktown 54 @ C1 Robinson 48

Below are the regional quarter final matchups, all on Wednesday night. The Liberty District took down 3 Patriot teams to really prove in my opinion that they were the top district last night. Not only did they win but all 3 are favored to advance to the final 4. The Westfield-TC Williams game should be awesome.

Boys Regional Quarter Finals
L2 Langley (-4.0) @ N1 Edison
N4 Yorktown @ L3 Fairfax (-2.0)

C2 Westfield @ P1 TC Williams (-4.0) Awesome Game
C3 Centreville @ L1 Mclean (-15.0)

Here are last nights scores for both the boys and girls
Girls
P3 Annandale 68 @ L2 South Lakes 48
C4 Centreville 52 @ N1 Mount Vernon 65

Hayfield is open as Ron Palmer retired. That's a good job and when they go to Division 5 and Division 6 in hoops, that job is even more attractive.

From what I have heard Hayfield is a lock to go to one of their assistants on staff.

What happened to Hayfield basketball? Seems like it's really gone down hill these past couple of seasons. I remeber them in the 90's as a constant powerhouse who many opponents feared playing. Why don't they bring back some of that talent from those many good years to take over the helm if this job is truly open. Hard to believe it's going to be handed to an assistant given the performance the past two years. Is there more to the story than meets the eye????

Yeah, South County opened and took half their enrollment. All of those monster athletes over at SoCo would otherwise be at Hayfield. They had that one great Winbush-Canady-Rigans class that carried them for three years, but since then the talent hasn't been nearly what it was back then.

Palmer actually did a pretty admirable job while he was there. I think he got frustrated with some of the rules in Fairfax and VHSL that limit access to players in the offseason.

Unless Oakton plays an absolutely horrible game, I don't think Mt Vernon has much of a chance.

How good are the West Springfield girls this year? On more than one occasion in recent years, they've been the nemesis to the Oakton girls program in the region.

West Springfield and Oakton are both undefeated in the northern region and both are the real deal. West Springfield dropped a couple games at a very talented Florida winter break tournament.

West Springfield will have its hands full against Madison though, as Madison is really good. They played in the season opener and West Springfield won by 4.

Lots of people. Girls games are as fun to watch as boys games, at least in the public schools. Girls get D1 scholarships just like boys do.

I have a connection to Oakton, but their boys b-ball program sucks, has for years. Their girls program is very good, and I'm interested in how they do in the playoffs.

In short, fuck off.

Not the prior poster. I like watching the girls play when the teams are decent and evenly matched.

Usually, in NoVa, however, you have a few public HS teams that are much better than the rest. All top four seeds are left in the region this year. There were no upsets, and most of the games have been blow-outs. Who really wants to watch Oakton beat W-L 67-36?
