I'm thinking about moving to Reston near Lake Fairfax. It seems like a nice area, and the proximity to Reston Town Center was a real plus. However, I drove through Lake Anne, and this place is straight-up ghetto. Low income housing. Scary looking dudes everywhere. From looking online, it appears like it's a haven for petty crime. I never got out of my car... I thought I would be mugged. It gives me the same gut feel as Southeast DC. Should I just stay FAR FAR away from Lake Anne?

There are nice houses on the lake itself, but that's about it. Much of Lake Anne is full of bullshit section eight housing, and everyone I know over there is involved in drugs one way or another. Like the article that newgatedenizen presented, they plan on taking the subsidized apartments where that guy was just murdered in a drug deal gone bad, and turning it into a high-rise projects (Or as they say these days: "Affordable housing"). Hudgins is just pandering for votes, and so the ghettoization continues.

Lake Anne area of Reston is amidst some suggested and hopeful updating. There are plenty of good real estate buys around the Lake Anne Plaza- proper.

Reston has always been about affordable properties for all with Lake Anne area being in this target. Overall, 'questionable blocks,' aside... it's a nice place to live and have been doing so after relocating to a rental townhouse on Lake Anne 3-years ago.

We enjoy the location and amenities near Reston Town Center and nearby shopping centers. We commute to Tyson's and have children. Lake Anne remains a nice place to live for our family. We are hoping to purchase a town home on Lake Anne in near future. Highly recommend the area to anyone in search of a quiet and safe home. Never had a problem with crime. Hope that assists in anyone's decision.
