Highlights from the Vienna Police Department log, Jan. 20 to 26


No charges were pressed against a boy who stole two cases of beer from a 7-Eleven store last week.

At 9:48 p.m. Jan. 20, an employee at the 7-Eleven Store at 427 Maple Avenue E reported someone had stolen two cases of beer.

Police investigated and determined the suspect was a juvenile male. They contacted the boy's father and he and his son reported to Vienna Police Headquarters to meet with Officer Lyons.

The store declined to prosecute the boy for the theft and simply wanted restitution. Restitution was made and the boy was released to the custody of his father.

A citizen reported between November 2011 and Jan. 25 2012, a creditor had taken money from one of her accounts without her permission. Police investigation revealed the citizen had received treatment at an urgent care type facility, which said it billed the complainant on three separate occasions but had not received payment. The urgent care facility then debited the funds as part of a legal agreement made with the complainant prior to treatment. The citizen was advised of the results of the investigation and she will follow up with the business.

A resident of Windover Avenue NW reported at noon Dec. 24 she received a collection notice for a check she had not written. The case is still being investigated.

A mother reported at noon Jan. 15 her 9-year-old daughter was rubbing a dog's belly when she was bitten. Police said the "unappreciative dog" was quarantined.
A man reported at 11 a.m. Jan. 17 that while at El Punto Restaurant, 262 Cedar Lane SE, an acquaintance threatened to set him up and frame him for a drug possession offense.

A representative from Sprint contacted a customer on Lakewood Drive SW at noon Jan. 17 saying she owed money on a past due bill. The woman said she has never opened a Sprint account. Police are still investigating the case.
An employee at The Shepherd's Center, 541 Marshall Road SW, reported a door to the center had been damaged between Jan. 20 and 23. Police determined the damage was likely caused by routine wear and tear.

Police saw a delivery truck around 5 a.m. Jan. 20 parked illegally at in a travel lane on Maple Avenue. It was then seen being unloaded at Anita’s Mexican Restaurant, 521 Maple Avenue E. Floyd Eugene Hopkins Jr., 40, of Taneytown, Md. was issued a summons for the noise violation. He was released after signing it.
The Fairfax County Animal Shelter contacted VPD's animal control offer about a dog that had been taken into custody by a citizen around noon Jan. 20 on Fairway Drive NE. The dog had possible neglect issues and was found running loose when the citizen took the dog in. The dog was thin and appeared dirty, with several hygiene issues. Vienna police took custody of the dog and transported it to the shelter after attempts to contact its owner were fruitless. Police are still being investigated.

Police responded to a report of a domestic assault in progress at 5:44 a.m. Jan. 21 on Park Street SE. Officers found a wife and her husband had become engaged in an argument. The verbal argument turned physical and the wife was struck. Police arrested the husband for domestic assault and transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

A daughter returned to her home at 2:37 p.m. Jan. 21 on Marshall Road SW and found her mother passed away. Police found no signs of foul play. A detective will follow up on this case.

While conducting a traffic stop at 11:16 p.m. Jan. 22 at Roland and Nutley Streets SW, police learned the driver's license was suspended in Virginia.
Further investigation revealed both the driver and passenger were in possession of fictitious identification cards. The driver, Karla Flores- Turcios, 20, of Fairfax, was issued a summons for possession of false identification and driving on a suspended operator’s license. The passenger, Cheryl Attard, 20, of Burke, was issued a summons for possession of false identification. Both women were released after signing the summonses.

A resident reported two unlicensed solicitors going door to door at 12:41 p.m. Jan. 24 on Holmes Drive NW. Police found two men in the area. After checking for outstanding warrants, police released the men after warning them about the need for a permit.

Police saw two men soliciting for tree work by going door to door at 1:31 p.m. Jan. 24 on Saratoga Waye. After identifying the men and checking for outstanding warrants, Police issued summonses to James Hickman, 48, of Bealton, Va. and Robert Kelly Watson, 45, of Manassas Park. Both men were released after signing the summonses.

Police responded to a report of a mother and daughter involved in a physical altercation at 2:06 p.m. Jan. 24 on Thelma Circle, SW. After an investigation, Police arrested the mother for domestic assault of her adult daughter. The mother was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.

A concerned citizen reported at 5:32 p.m. Jan. 24 two people were firing a BB gun at some cups inside Glyndon Park, 300 Glyndon Street SE. Police located the people and issued a summons to Nathan Canson, 22, of Vienna for unlawful use of a BB gun inside town limits. He was released after signing the summons.

Police responded at 7:08 p.m. Jan. 24, along with Fairfax County EMS, to Colin Lane NW for an unconscious female. Upon their arrival the adult female was located and found conscious. It is believed she took several medications along with some alcohol and was having an adverse reaction. She was taken to an area hospital by EMS.

A doctor reported one of her patients left at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 25 from her Maple Avenue office in an upset state, and the doctor feared the patient might be a danger to herself or others. The patient’s father was contacted and he reported that he had been unable to make contact with his daughter, an adult. The Fairfax County Helicopter Unit responded and located the woman just outside town on the W and OD Trail near Hunter Mill Road. Officer Kiley transported the woman back to her doctor’s office without incident.

A woman was walking her dog at 1:45 p.m. Jan. 25 near Ridge Road and Frederick Street SW when a vehicle ran a stop sign and swerved towards her. The woman recognized the driver. Police responded to speak with the male driver, who had a different account of the incident. Both parties were advised about their legal options.

Police responded to a report of a woman walking down Park Street at 3:20 p.m. Jan. 25, bleeding from the face. The woman was also visibly upset. Police made contact with the adult female and learned that she was involved in the Jan. 24 incident on Thelma Circle. (See above). The woman was transported back to her home.

A student reported at 4:04 p.m. Jan. 25 her iPhone was taken from her backpack while she was in gym glass at Madison High School, 2500 James Madison Drive NW. Police located the phone using tracking technology and spoke with another student that was in possession of the phone. The student claimed an unknown subject must have placed the phone in her backpack and that she did not steal it. The phone was returned to its owner and the victim’s father declined to prosecute the other student.

A woman reported at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 25 her ex-boyfriend was inside her home on Tapawingo Road SW and she did not want him there. Police escorted the ex-boyfriend from the home without incident.

A citizen reported at 9 p.m. Jan. 25 a construction trailer was parked in the roadway on Cottage Street SW in violation of a town ordinance. The trailer was ticketed and a tow tag was placed on it. The Traffic Squad will follow up on this case.

Police saw several individuals at 11:55 p.m. Jan. 26 in a parking lot in the 100 block of Maple Avenue NW that appeared to be involved in an argument. As an officer approached the group, he found a woman lying on the ground crying and two men standing near her. Fairfax County EMS was requested to check on the woman on the ground. She refused treatment. Further investigation revealed the woman had thrown an object at one of the man’s vehicles. He reciprocated by breaking off a mirror on her vehicle. She then reported he hit her and she fell to the ground. The man had a different account of the incident. The warrant obtainment process was explained to all parties.

Two vehicles were traveling side by side at 1:46 p.m. Jan. 21, heading eastbound on Maple Avenue. As the cars approached Park Street SW, a deer appeared and ran into the side of one of the vehicles. Stunned, the deer then ran back and into the side of a building. It then turned around and ran into the side of the second vehicle. Police responded to euthanize the deer.


ARRESTS

Police responded to a report of a hit and run crash at 9:40 a.m. Jan. 21 in the 400 block of Maple Avenue W. After investigating, an officer determined a description for the suspected vehicle and broadcast a lookout for it. Another officer located the car. The driver showed signs of possible impairment. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests, the driver, Frederico Delasobera, 42, of Falls Church, was arrested for driving while intoxicated and hit and run. Delasobera was taken to Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis and then to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was held on $1000.00 bond.

While conducting a traffic stop at 2:16 a.m. Jan. 22 near Lawyers Road and Maple Avenue NW, police suspected the driver was impaired. After attempting to complete several field sobriety tests, Daniel Min Han, 27, of Vienna was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Han was taken to the Vienna Police Headquarters for breath analysis and then the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
