Folks,

Are there any recycling centers around the Herndon/Falls Church area that accept electronic items? Please let me know. Thanks.

I struggled with this for a long time and found that it is really hard to find anyone local to take this type of stuff. If it still works you can try Craigslist or Freecycle or you might want to check out this site:

http://www.greensight.com/CostcoTrades/Common/equiptypes.aspx?SiteXfrMsg=1

They will pay you a nominal fee for some items and even items with no recycling value still come with a prepaid shipping label.

If you are not familiar with Freecycle, it is a site where people get rid of stuff that they might otherwise throw away. I have listed the following items and had them go in less than 24 hours:

* Pile of 60 bricks salvaged from a garden border
* Closetmaid shelving
* Rusted lawnmower
* Misc collection of electrical items (e.g., extension cords and multi-taps)
* Bag of wrenches (please, no Dodgeball references)
* Partial sheets of drywall
* Collection of external power supplies belonging to god knows what long gone electronic item

You can get more information on Freecycle at http://www.freecycle.org

I just dropped off an electronic item at the e-tech recycling store located in chantilly. pretty hassle free.
