I have an early flight out of national aiport tomorrow at 10am. How is 66 east HOV to GW Parkway as far as traffic around 8:00-8:30am. Any other suggestions? I'll be coming from Tysons area.

Thanks

Take 123 to the GW Parkway, to avoid 66 altogether.

It depends on where you are jumping onto 66 and if you are getting a ride or driving a hybrid. If you can use the HOV, you can go 60 MPH on east-bound 66 within the Beltway. If you are jumping onto 66 before the Beltway but are using the HOV lane, it will take you about 20 minutes to get from Hwy 50 to the beltway, and then it is clear sailing from there.

I would not recommend taking 123 to GW Parkway. It seems like a really roundabout way of going, since you will have to re-trace the length of 123 down the Parkway. Also, I have experienced major delays on 123 during rush hour in the evenings, but I can't really vouch for how bad it might be in the mornings.

Going alone - you cant take 66 until 9 am

GW is bumper to bumper after CIA, until key bridge, up until about 9-30

Maybe it does seem like a roundabout way, but I've lived in Tysons for 11 years and have always taken the 123-GW route to National, and most of friends in the neighborhood go that way too. Even google maps suggests that route. He's going to hit traffic no matter what, and 66 can be wildly unpredictable.

I mean bottle neck on GW is really before Rosslyn.

Thank you for your responses. 66HOV will not be a problem... What about 66 to 110 (boundary channel dr) to GW? Any thoughts.

Thanks again.

Why go via that route?

Stay on GW, it should be faster, just stay in the LEFT lane, and u wont hit any 395 merge traffic

I live at West Falls Church station and always take 66 to 110.

Metro is actually super-convenient for getting to National, but it can be a pain if you have alot of luggage and are on the train during rush hour. It's definitely they way to go though, which is why they need to get movin' with this Dulles line.
